they're riff masters, not solo masters. dimebag had some pretty unique sounding solos, but they weren't always very musical. mustaine doesn't write most of the solos in megadeth. he wrote all of the ones from the first 2 albums. after that it was friedman and broderick who did the solos.

ovviamente de gustibus non disputandum, ma secondo me se provi ad ascoltare delle sue improvvisazioni o assoli composti negli ultimi anni non è più il Petrucci eccezionale (che anche io reputo strepitoso) di Images & Words.

Sta diventando troppo tecnico e davvero ripetitivo, anche se alcuni assoli si salvano indiscutibilmente e sono anzi molto belli. Marco invece mi sembra (e sicuramente è) proprio completo, un musicista a 360 gradi!

Parlo con cognizione di causa, io ho ascoltato tutto il suo album(ho imparato anche qualche sua canzone, e sebbene mi piacciano molto alcune, non hanno molto di innovativo) e anche qualcosa dei Liquid Tension. Se due persone guardano la Luna, una può dire "la Luna è grande" e l'altra può replicare "la Luna è piccola"... è solo una questione di punti vista, di prospettiva.... Quando ascolto una melodia di Petrucci, al termine, io resto bloccato... immobile e mentre sento ancora le sue note risuonarmi in testa, mi chiedo da dove possa nascere il gusto e la passione che lo ha portato a comporla. Magari tu vai a cercare altro in una melodia, e questo non vuol dire che (continua...)

Premesso che Petrucci è tecnicamente strabiliante ed eccezionale, sono dell'idea che la tecnica debba essere solo uno strumento al servizio dell'espressività. Quindi sebbene Petrucci potrà fare ancora 1000 brani identici nella loro struttura, ma riuscendo a trasferire ancora sensazioni meravigliose, per me sarà sempre il numero 1. Detto ciò, W Marco Sfogli, il Petrucci italiano. :)
