What I learned in my abnormal psychology class is that when someone mentions suicide you shouldn't say things like "sleep it off, it'll be better the next day." or "everything will be ok" or worse be negative and say things like "suck it up, life is hard" or "snap out of it" because it shows that you don't care for that person and that you are unempathetic. Instead you should talk it out, stay with the person and if necessary call the cops or take them to the ER. THAT shows that you care.

One more thing. Ijust remembered that there was another incident where someone got on a live cam site and told his viewers he was going to commit suicide. A lot of people contacted the police and they prevented his suicide. So in the case of Abraham Biggs, he wasn't as fortunate. If I killed myself at 19 I would have been dead 12 years now. A lot of stuff can happen and change in 12 years. He should have held on. 19 is a confusing and depressing age for many. Was for me.
I too would take it seriously. Many of those people who egged him on might have thought he was bluffing. Some probably thought it would be cool because they are heartless bastards. Actually, there's no way to be sure he wouldn't have done it even if his "audience" told him to stop. It's easy to blame them, and in fact they should share some blame, but remember it was his hands that ended his life. It's very unfortunate that he turned to a faceless mob of a-holes for support, but you can give him a little credit that he wasn't just being a puppet to the whims of others. This was his idea, it's just too bad he wasn't met with the consideration I think he deserved.

Here is the thing Tiffany, I understand your feelings about this and yes it is very sad that he committed suicide and yes it is sad that these dumb asses egged him on to do it. Unfortunately for this, we live in America where we have freedom of speech. As long as someone hasn't put the pills in his hands or killed him themselves, cannot be held responsible for his death. Egging someone on in a chat room to kill themselves is not a crime. RIP Abraham Biggs. yes this is late!

I 100% agree. He was feeling that what they was telling was right. Its like if more than numerous people tell u something , most likely u gonna think it is true. What I learned in my abnormal psychology class is that when someone mentions suicide you shouldn't say things like "sleep it off, it'll be better the next day." or "everything will be ok" or worse be negative and say things like "suck it up, life is hard" or "snap out of it" because it shows that you don't care for that person and that you are unempathetic. Instead you should talk it out, stay with the person and if necessary call the cops or take them to the ER. THAT shows that you care.

One more thing. Ijust remembered that there was another incident where someone got on a live cam site and told his viewers he was going to commit suicide. A lot of people contacted the police and they prevented his suicide. So in the case of Abraham Biggs, he wasn't as fortunate. If I killed myself at 19 I would have been dead 12 years now. A lot of stuff can happen and change in 12 years. He should have held on. 19 is a confusing and depressing age for many. Was for me.

I too would take it seriously. Many of those people who egged him on might have thought he was bluffing. Some probably thought it would be cool because they are heartless bastards. If I were there I would have tried to talk him out of it. I'm surprised in a 12 hour period that no one did try to talk him out of it. That's incredibly sad. Makes me think you can't rely on anbody for anything.

Actually, there's no way to be sure he wouldn't have done it even if his "audience" told him to stop. It's easy to blame them, and in fact they should share some blame, but remember it was his hands that ended his life. It's very unfortunate that he turned to a faceless mob of a-holes for support, but you can give him a little credit that he wasn't just being a puppet to the whims of others. This was his idea, it's just too bad he wasn't met with the consideration I think he deserved.

I do agree that yes those who were encouraging his suicide should be charged by the cops, but no one really knows how many people were watching the day he killed himself so it would be hard to make criminal charges. But, it doesn't change the fact that what they did was wrong and they should've notified the website and call the police sooner whether than later.

Oh my goodness. I've heard of similar things happening. My ex was talking to a girl on webcam and she supposedly killed herself and he just said "whatever" (thus he's an ex). Well, the story was sad. However, most people threatening to kill themselves are not going through with it. Most people just seek attention. Going onto the internet with an audience of teenagers is definitely asking for stupid and insensitive comments.
Were they wrong? Yes. Were they assholes? Probably some. Should they be charged with manslaughter? No. They did not commit any crime. He killed himself. Blame him. Usually it is a hoax.

Suicide is nothing anyone can stop and if so its only temporary. My cicerone (Mentor) committed suicide in 2005, while I was in Cali. I beat myself up for over 2 years in regards. Understand if the individual wants to do it you cannot stop the act.
In Abraham Biggs situation it could have been a case in which he went to far-to seek attention. Nonetheless, his letter states the obvious of his plan and pain.

This is sad but you guys are not discussing the real issue here. He killed himself because that's what he wants. He is responsible for his own actions. The questions is not about what the viewers did or didn't do. Where is the family? Are they aware of his situation? Life is the most precious thing on earth and if you have no values for your own life then you don't deserve to live. We are living in a dangerous world. Committing suicide shows that you are a weak person.

No the issue here is that people were egging him on. History has shown when we as a society begin to see death as perverse entertainment it will lead to that society's downfall. And I believe that's where we heading.

What's even worst is that this isn't just one nation involved in this, it on website that has people all over the world watching, so this is a worldwide moral dilema. Anyway Tiffany8884 I'll definitely suscribe it's nice to that thier are still people with moral values.

I would say that I am surprised that people would egg him on but I am not. I would be surprised if people did not.
I am sickened by them. I wish that they would be legally prosecuted but I know they shall not be.

We all go through a lot issues and problems in life. But we also have many ways of resolving it. Suicidal idea or actions shows that you are a weak person. It shows that you don't value life at all. You can't held someone responsible for killing yourself. We do things the way we do things because we thats what we want. We are responsible for our own actions. Abramaham Biggs is responsible for his own actions and you can't put this on other people.

maybe those around him like his girlfriend, mother, brother/sister, and all those who loved him should have done something to help him when they saw him depressed. maybe those who were around should do something, and you should stop preaching about someone you dont know. they shouldnt be charged with manslaughter b/c they didnt kill anyone and with all the videos online now-a-days, no one can be sure what is or isnt real. if he didnt want to kill himself he wouldnt have swallowed the pills.
