    thx

  • The stuff you use for edging is called bias binding

  • so confusing..

  • what size would this fit? im awfully short... im just wondering.

  • @crazylovenlife321 Technically a cape would 'fit' everyone, it's not like it's got legs or sleeves.

  • @crazylovenlife321 if length is an issue, you can try it on before closing the hem, and shorten it if it's too long. :)

  • how much fabric do you need

  • @MissCUTIE2206 145x145 and 62x86cm in my case. Depends on how long you want it to be though.

  • How big is the gap you leave for the hood to be sewn to the neck?

  • thank you for posting this video. it is really helpful for newbies like me and also just in time for halloween. ; )

  • I liked this vid but it says it's disabled, oh well. BTW, the red 7.5 cm thing you used to hem the seams and stuff is called bias tape. :)

  • How many yards of fabric did you use? :)

  • @MonicaDominguez98 Oh nvm:)

  • wow! beautiful cape! i'm definitely going to try this! (well i'll be asking my grandother to help with the sewing... home ec class was a disaster for me in high school -.-")

  • Sprichst du Deutsch? Außerdem, danke für das Video!

  • Thanks a lot :)

  • I'd give this a Like if I could, it worked for me perfectly :)

  • @ElKilla1993 Likes and dislikes are so unpersonal... I prefer comments^^

And cool it worked for you.

  • how long is the cape from neckline to hem???

  • @Gothgirl4000 That would be 65cm - 1 cm for seam allowance at the hem.

  • Beautiful! ;D And very clear. Thank you so much!

  • this is a really complicated way to make a cape, I never have to cut a circle piece of fabric

  • I was trying to figure out how to make the cloak a decent looking shape, I didn't even think of cutting it into a circle, lol!

    Thanks so much for this.

  • omg i love the cape is cool

  • can u make it longer?

  • How do I make this pattern a floor length/long cloak

  • @MissyTheMisfit665 Just make the circle bigger. If the fabric isn't big enough, make it out of two pieces. Everything that matters is the circular shape^^

  • very beautiful indeed! great job

  • Thanks for the tutorial, I made a cute cape for my doll with it~

    (resized and adjusted pattern)

  • This is the sort of length I'm looking for in a cape, but I've found the instructions severely confusing, and have no sewing machine :(

  • This is just brilliant! Very easy to follow and i dont even know how to sew! All i know is that the thread goes in the eye and the pointy part goes into the cloth. And i love big hoods, and this one is about the size of the whole cape! FCUKING BRILLIANT!

  • Exactly what I was looking for! ^^ Thank you for posting this!

  • Would it be at all possible to do this without handsewing?

  • @user36able Sure, as long as you know your sewing machine well, almost everything is possible^^

  • For one second I thought it said......"the seam has to to be attached to both sides for the greater of mankind....."

  • Hi! I really love your cape and I will definately follow these instrutions when I'm making a cape very soon! I was just wondering if you could tell me what diameter I need to make the circle in order to make it full length on me when I'm 173 cm (5'7 feet) tall?

  • @steveismylover Last time I checked 5'7 was 170cm ;)

If you measure from your shoulder down to the ground you should get the radius, take that twice and you have the diameter. If you want to be sure its not too short add a few inches, you can always cut a bit more off afterwards^^

  • @Goldkehlchen20 Well I used an online converter since we don't use inches or feet where I come from. 3 cm is nothing so wahtever, but thanks for the answer.

  • @steveismylover We don't use them where I live either I usually find it a bit bothersome to translate the lengths^^

  • Hallo! Find deine Videos sehr toll :) Falls es nicht schon gesagt wurde: "Rest-Fabric" kann man auch etwas verständlicher "seam allowance" (=Nahtzugabe) nennen :)

    Viel erfolg weiterhin :)

  • I have become very fond of the new red riding hood film that has come out this year with amanda seyfried in it and i'm wondering can you look at her cloak in some pics from the film and maybe recommend a material that is similar to this because that material looks just a little bit shiny but i don't want it too dull, or just find a material you think would look good (but not velvet) thanks!

  • @alicecullenvampyre I think I'd go with either a cotton satin or wool-fabric, but it's hard to recommend fabrics just by the type when I cannot have a look at the quality of what you can pick from. I have seen some cotton-fabrics that had a soft velvet-ish touch on one side but without being too heavy, shiny or hairy, I think I'd go with something like that if available.

  • @Goldkehlchen20 You're brillinat thankyou!

  • OMGSH THANK YOU! I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS!

    <333

  • hey, do you think it would be difficult to use this for a thick, wool fabric?

  • Cheezy if i catch you slipping, you're gonna get moisted

  • very interesting thnks for the help

    xx

    love cheesy

if i catch you on road its peak

  • very interesting thnks for the help

    xx

  • thx so much!

I was totaly empty about what shape it actually had to be? xD

but it also made me realise how poor im gonna get, after i buy the fabric, since a want it to end at my feet T-T

  • @AdoptMeToo

you should try finding some cheaper fabrics :O What are you planning to use?

  • @anziepanzie4eva uuuhm.. no idea something cottonish? something durable?

  • @AdoptMeToo try finding a local wholesaler. Some of them will sell individuals.

  • This is great! :D

  • Fantastic just what i was lookin for :)

  • this is wonderful!

I was wondering if this would work to make a longer cape? almost more of a cloak type idea?

  • @StarAngelAlchemist The wider the circle is, the longer the cloak gets... the only problem is that usually the fabrics one can buy are too small to make it out of one piece, but you can always connect several smaller pieces^^

  • @StarAngelAlchemist Perhaps you can use 2 larger pieces of fabric and sew them together untill where you would cut the neck and opening? (if you don't mind a seam down the center of your back)

  • How long do you think this will take to make?

And can you use satin instead of the thick material you made?

Thanks great by the way :)

    <3

  • @jasminebunny34 It took me a couple of hours (with a little 'help' aka 'standing in the way' of some other people...) but I think it depends on how careful you work and how experienced you are.

The choice of material is up to you, I just personally prefer less shiny fabrics^^

It's going to look a little different though depending on how thick the material you pick is.

  • @Goldkehlchen20 Thanks for the advice by the way.

Your video is really helpful i'll check out the rest.

    I subscribed. : )

  • @jasminebunny34 I'm glad you find the video useful^^

  • hello thanks for the video!

btw the border stuff is called "binding" and you're "binding the edges"

    xxxxxxxx

  • Hello! I was just wondering how you made the two "semi circles" for the hood. Since the width from the curve to the center is not the same as the length of the straight side, I don't think I could use the string-and-chalk method. It's more like half an oval really. So I was wondering how you drew a smooth curve?

  • @MarsellaFyngold It usually starts with two semi-circles and then you can add a few more centimetres... you will probably have to adjust the shape to your head a little afterwards so that it fits perfectly, at least I find the result looks better in the end that way^^

  • Would this fit a 5 foot 6 girl??? And also do u no any places I could just buy a cape???

  • @TalaLalaLicious I'm 5foot7 and it fits me... besides the internet I couldn't think of any places where to find one for sure.

  • oh my gosh! thank you so much! i really want to be little red riding hood for Halloween and all the capes i've found so far at the store and cheap looking. plus i want a big hood and they all have little ones!

  • Hi I was wondering how you drew such a large circle on the fabric? I really want to make this! haha.

  • @howva Best is to attach a string in the middle of it, tie the string around a piece of sewing chalk and then just draw a circle, at least it works for me^^

  • @Goldkehlchen20 Hi I've just a couple more things to ask you, did you sew that border to not have to hem the bottom of the cloak or did you actually hem the cloak? If so, how did you do it I have trouble with the curves. And also if there a reason you would use a synthetic fabric rather than something like cotton? Danke!

  • @howva Yea the border is to spare me the hem ;)

The problem with the hem is that the material is technically in the shape of a circle... it's almost impossible to get a straight hem there, with a border it is much more simple because you don't have to bend the material so much.

I did a cape with synthetic fabric before but it didn't fall that nice from the shoulders for some reason. I usually prefer cotton, it's very comfortable to wear and easy to work with^^

  • Hi, I suppose you could increase the length of the cloak, by increasing the diameter of the circle? really great video by the way, easy to follow, and great explanations.

  • @howva The bigger the circle the longer the cloak, but then I would suggest using two pieces and sewing them together because most of the fabrics on the marked are too small in one piece^^

  • this rocks dude. i have a hoodie with no hood (not really a hoodie then, i guess), and i'm sick of tiny hoods that wouldn't even cover a parrots head. your pattern for the hood was perfect. thanks!

p.s. i do agree with Emmma360, it would have been helpful to see it on a person

  • @xWonderfulDreamsx Unfortunately the girl I handed the camera too messed up all the video- and picture-material... so I had to work with the little I had^^

  • what where the measurements for the half circles you used for the hood?

  • @loverlychibirock I said that in the video didn't I?

  • it would have also been more useful to see you wearing it, most tutes already do that, and most people find it useful to see what it should look like on a person

  • wow! richtig tichtig gut! ich bin neidisch ;)

  • so so cute, i wish i had a sewing machine

  • This was a wonderfully helpful and well diagrammed tutorial. Thank you very much.

  • THANKS!!!

  • hey lauraaaaar!

machst du mir auch son cape?

  • Ich schreib dich auf die Liste^^

Seit wann schreibt man mich mit 'r' am Ende? lol, klingt aber cool.
