i did this, and I found a secret by doing it. if you do it right next to the entrance to corona mountain without groundpounding on your way down, you will fall through the ground and into a secret place under the water, which has easy access to all 1-ups and even a few shine sprites.

there's one other way to do it. with ar. hang from a rope, the one near the tower, and use inf. water with turbo nozzle. keep using it, then jump when you reach max speed.

If you think 15 minutes is insane, try also turning on super spin, launching almost literally into orbit, then using the rocket lauch somewhere up near the peak of the 'fly off rope' jump.
