I think fitness was one of the key reasons Monica's comeback in the mid 1990s wasn't as successful as her first career. The second problem I believe Monica had was her game. Monica rarely came to net. Monica had powerful groundstrokes BUT she did not take the ball out of the air enough and volley enough. I think if Monica had gotten into top physical condition maybe her second career would have been more succcessful as the first.

Well, when u rate a player it depends on a lot of things. Is it the skills, the wit, the fighting spirit, the physical power, or the number of Grand Slams... that makes one a better player? Maybe Henin is NOT the best in any of those criteria, but her playing style - the combination of all those factors, has contributed so much to the tennis world and made it more exciting and worth-watching. @serenakicksass yeah for someone who isn't a fan you do watch a lot of Seles videos, anyways those deep powerful shots Seles was hitting was what they were watching on tv winning GS and they decided to follow in the footsteps like a lot of the Big Babes players that followed her.

@monica012077 My reference was mostly towards the talenteless breastless Henin who is useless thrash as evidenced by the fact she never won a Wimbledon (just like Seles but atleast in her case you could argue she might have won one without the stabbing, Henin has no excuse), has a pathetic 2-7 record vs Venus, and in this video is even losing in straights to a way past her prime Seles.She won all her slams due to a pathetic clay field and the Williams slump. She cheated to win a few to.A loser.

@serenakicksass well i'll never stand in the way of anyone who's willing to trash Justine, with her lack of a W title, dismal record against Venus & Serena, her beatdowns by Bartoli, Pierce, Petrova, Sharapova all on fast surfaces it's clear Henin prefers slower pts and play so she can make decisions, she can't handle fast play fast thinking tennis against powerful consistent players. I do agree she would haven never dominated on clay if not for the weak and/or distracted field.

Her record against Serena is far from dismal, actually she has a 4:3 head-to-head record in Grand Slams. Venus has a good record against Justine because they played most of their matches when Justine was still quite young. As far as the other big hitters are concerned, Justine usually beats them on EVERY surface (7:3 against Sharapova, 14:2 against Petrova, 3:1 against Bartoli with a double bagle in their last match, 4:1 against Pierce, 16:3 against Kuznetsova)

@serenakicksass if you watch Seles' matches you get intensity, power, mental toughness, consistency, skills which aren't overated since they existed in the Williams Sisters at one time, but they took those skills for granted and never honed them and now they are gone :)

@serenakicksass Venus will be out for awhile, i think her GS days are over, she may have one more W in her. Serena is on the decline, although all her accomplishments have been amazing this year she hasn't played enough, this was the first year that either sister didn't win a GS title, and both Serena and Maria played tentative, nervous tennis with weak serving in GS finals this year, i think all 3 are going away and the Golden Retriever is going to dominate an era of boring baseline tennis

Not to mention she was totally outplayed by Zvereva in the quarters anyway. It had nothing to do with lack of fitness, she simply couldnt handle Natalia's spins and crafty shots on the low sliding grass and got dominated in the 2nd set.

@serenakicksass Plus this was the one of the last years with the old style grass, Monica had no chance during that time. Natasha didn't capitalize anyway because she lost to Tauziat and her brash in your face always at the net style. One of my favorite W's ever for the women was 98, last time you saw so much variety on the court. Anways Monica had just gotten to the finals of the French, cut her some slack, and her father had just passed.She deserved to pig out if she wanted!

It is amazing how Henin went from being owned by Venus, Serena, Davenport, Clijsters, Seles, and Capriati in 2001 and 2002 to dominating in 2003 and early 2004. Did she get a whole lot better or did everyone else just get older, injured, retired, or worse.

And Zvereva did not beat Seles in that match based on superior fitness, otherwise Seles wouldnt have destroyed her in all their hard and clay matches from 97-99, she did it by outcrafting and maneuvering Seles on the grass. Monica wasnt ever winning Wimbledon in 1998. Her only shot of winning Wimbledon was in 1994 where she probably could have beaten Cowchita Martinez.

@serenakicksass I also dont think Seles would have won FO 1999. I think FO 97-98. maybe one between 2000 - 2002. Australia 1999, USOPEN 1999 she had a real shot. maybe one more. I agree though, I dont know about her game on grass. she never had good movement on turf. Her game didnt adapt as well as some of the other players.

@serenakicksass A fit Monica managed to beat a 7-time Wimbledon champ on Centre Court. Since she was able to handle Navratilova's spins, serve-volleys and placements, there's no reason why she wouldn't have been able to handle Novotna.
