  • OK, i don't really want to waste my money so are you sure that your youtube tutorials are different to your 101 tips and tricks for sony movie studio?

  • @TheDaniel500 I haven't uploaded any videos from '101 Tips & Tricks with Sony Movie Studio' to YouTube. They are available only on the DVD.

  • @2005buickallure Sony Movie Studio and Vegas Pro share the same Chromakey engine. I have both, and prefer to use Movie Studio most of the time. But Vegas Pro 64 bit runs much faster, so I use that when working on larger projects.

  • thank you...

  • @ProductionMusicFreak You can get the popup background from Amazon for $45 - PROFOTOCONNECT 5 X 7 Collapsible Flex-out Blue/Green Twist Backdrop

  • Nice one Bill. I thought I had subscribed to your videos but found I hadn't. Keep up the great work.

  • @3omar619 You can get the popup background from Amazon for $45 - PROFOTOCONNECT 5 X 7 Collapsible Flex-out Blue/Green Twist Backdrop

You can use any image or video as the background in the chromakey effect.

  • @SteelboneNakedlunch You can purchase Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD from Amazon for under $30. You can use any solid color material (even a bed sheet) as the chromakey background.

  • when I use chromo key it appers a rectangel in the colure I choose to take how do I remove it does anyone now please? I made a video check my videos please help!!!!

  • See my YouTube video, 'secret to great chroma key with sony vegas movie studio'

  • Hey bill you can see your legs are cut off when you go to the pan option make sure you pant your whole body or else it dosent look as real otherwise its pretty cool checkout my green screen test

  • sound is on the left - -'

  • y havent uv been making any youtube vids lately?

  • I've been busy creating my latest DVD, '101 Tips & Tricks for Sony Movie Studio'.

It includes over 100 brand new video tutorials.

Find it on my web site.

  • your sound is on the left...

  • @shoheeb1 right

  • Find the popup greenscreens at B & H Photo, eBay or amvona - between $40 and $80

  • you can make a green screen out of your tv by burning a green jpg to a dvd/cd put it in ur tv and hit pause so itll stay on the screen

  • how to make a photo backround transparent? so only the subject shows&not the backround?

  • See my YouTube video, 'Photoshop Elements Magic Extractor Tutorial '

  • cool

  • I dont get it!!!!! My Vegas Pro is messed.

I did the exact same thing as in this video. But, when I dragged the blue screen on my vid NOTHING happens. Everything is correct. Ive dont it before, its just now when ever I save something, vegas remembers it and doesnt allow changes after.

I tried adjusting the colour, not a change. I slide everything and absolutely nothing happens.

    What is wrong!

I need to do this, and ever since I got this its been happening on and off. Now, I cant get any more!

  • You have to click on that pencil thingy beside the colours after adding the effect and then click on the video background of the preview screen. Then it should disappear or you can change effect settings for better lighting etc ;)

  • Hey Bill I use Sony Vegas and I can chroma key myself into my movies pretty well I believe, but I keep on having this problem that whenever I use chroma key, I get this lag between the audio and video. My words don't match my mouth. I've tried ungrouping them from each other and adjusting them and that gets it closer but it's never perfect. I only have this problem when I use the chroma key effect. Any ideas? Thanks for all your tips they've really helped me.

  • The audio lag is likely only in your preview window. If you render the video, there won't be any lag.

Change your preview to 'auto, preview' or 'auto, draft' and the lag should go away.

  • so you pade for the blue globe?

  • Yes, I licensed the image for use on the web, CD, DVD, and TV.

  • were did you get that sick moving backround???

    the blue earth?>

  • That spinning globe is from Digital Juice Jumpbacks, set JB03. It is a collection of 40 high impact animations.

  • how can you zoom out and in ???

  • Yes, you can use pan and crop to zoom in an out

  • Great video. I've been working on green screening as well, but I do have to say, that I've had a problem with the lighting. How were you able to get your lighting so well?

  • In this video, I used natural lighting coming in from a window to the right of the greenscreen. This eliminated shadows from foreground lighting.

  • Bill,

At 00:20 can you actually see the room on the green screen with your eyes or do you just see the blank green scene?

    Thanks

  • When I recorded this, all I could see behind me was the greenscreen.

I added the backgrounds during editing

  • i did it with sony vegas 8.0 which is much easier and better effects

  • Bill,

I bought this DVD and it is really amazing, However, I have a doubt. There is a part in which you show how to select multiple spots from the green screen with the dropper and no matter how many times I tried, it selects only one. How can I select multiple spots if there are different shades on my green screen? THANKS!!!

  • Use the color eyedropper, and left click and hold as you draw a box over the colors you want to choose

  • Best how to videos on youtube.

  • you have really cool videos and tutorials pls make more for sony vegas and i abboniere you ;) xD

  • where can u get a green screen? How much does it cost (about)?

  • You can use any solid color item as a greenscreen. Blue or green works best.

You can either purchase a green screen (find them on eBay), or make your own using a bedsheet, or green poster board or a painted wall.

The collasible greenscreen I use costs around $70 from B & H Photo.

  • Is your green screen a fabric screen?Or solid?I'm using a fabric screen,is it better than a solid?

  • Mine is fabric.

Lighting is more important than the material used for greenscreen

  • Comment removed

  • This will work with all versions of Sony Vegas and all versions of Sony Movie Studio

  • i did it with sony vegas 8 pro :D

  • Hey, where did you get the animated spinning globe? I've been looking around for one and I can't find one that is professional looking enough to actually use for our programs. I'm assuming you had to pay for it*. How much did it cost and where did you get it?

Thanks and God Bless - Points Of Truth Ministries

  • That spinning globe is from Digital Juice Jumpbacks, set JB03. It is a collection of 40 high impact animations.

The JB03 collection is on DVD and on sale for $24.95 while supplies last.

  • Hey bill! great work here sir!

What many people don't know is that if you use good lighting you can improve and remove the green "shadow" fringes. Is there any possibility you could discuss lighting, and even home lighting solutions. Because many people don't know that you don't always have to go buy expensive lighting setups! there are many home lighting possibilities that will warm up, or help out your image, while removing green remnants. And improving your image overall.

    Thanks

  • Its hard to show lighting how to in a YouTube video, but we cover that on our site and on our DVDs.

  • Guess I will be checking out your site! =]

Thanks a lot and have a great day!

  • can you do any backround you want

  • You can place any photo, and video, any animation, anything you like in the chromakey background.

  • Where did you get your backround images and videos?

  • I purchase virtual background libraries from Digital Juice and other sources.

  • Thank you, you're so informative, this will help me make awesome singing videos.......

  • kool can you do dat wid da movie studio 9 pro (sony vegas) i think dats wat its called cOz dat da one ima get?

  • Yes, you can do this with all versions of Movie Studio going back to Movie Studio 5.

  • how...sorry im new to all this!!

say for example if i had a movie or song clip would i be able to import that in?

so instead of the picture in the backgroud on the green screen the movie will show?

    is that possible??

    thanks

  • You can use any image or video for the background video.

Check out my other youtube videos on this subject, and you'll find more examples.

  • lol sorri i bout that i should of checked em out b4 i asked...lol

    but thanks.

  • could you tell me where you got your blue globe background that one is like the best globe background i have seen

  • please can you tell me what types of colours you can have on the background. Thanks

  • You can use any solid color for the background as long as the color doesn't closely match any color on the foreground subject.

Most people use either chromakey blue or green for the background color.

A low cost green background can be created using poster board from Office Depot or Walmart.

  • when i use my green screen with sony vegas the picture or animation that i use to replace the green screen doesnt just show up on the green screen it shows up on my white wall.for example when you zoomed out, the animation stayed on your green screen, and the background (your house)was its normal view.if i were to zoom out like you did with my camera, the animation or picture would look clear on the green screen but not on the white wall. how can i make it only show up on the green screen?

  • Choose green as the chromakey color.

See my other youtube video, 'Secret to great chromakey with Sony Vegas Movie Studio' for more details.

  • can i make it without green screen?

  • You can use any solid color background as long as the background color doeesn't appear in the foreground video.

    Green or blue works best.

  • pls tell me the size of the screen you have..

  • On this video I used a 5 X 7 collapsible screen I bought from B & H Photo. Part # BOBGC57036

  • Thank you so much!!!

You really saved me looonnng minutes of adjusting Chroma key efx every time, again and again...

    Now it is so simple!

just 2 mouse clicks, very small adjustments, and I am done!

    Thank you Bill!

  • Hey Bill, I was wondering if Sony Vegas will allow me to install it onto two computers. I want to install it on my personal computer and the family computer...

  • I have it installed on my desktop and my laptop - no problems.

  • hello to you

that effect only do in green screen i cant do that a color screen ?

i hope you could help me change the background

    thank

  • You can use any solid color background, as long as the background color is not too close to colors of objects in the foreground.

  • hey bill i was wondering

i just baught sony movie studio and

i would liek to do green screens

and i was wondering does it have to be green like

can it be lime green dark green ??

  • Any color will work. Choose one that won't be too close to skin color, or the color of any items in the video view.

A bedsheet can work if the color is right.

  • im suprised at you no offence but my dad is about 40 years old he knows nothing about pc's. thanks anyways

  • where can i get animation backgrounds?

  • Find them on ebay or from digitaljuice com

  • Bill, How are you doing changing the background with a remote control. What's the setup? THanks...

  • Actually, the background is always the greenscreen.

I just change the background images in the Vegas video track by placing other images on the track with the chromakey effect applied.

  • Is that a forceflex folding greenscreen

  • Not sure of the brand of the collapsible greenscreen. But I bought it from B & H Photo online, Item number: BOBGC57036 , price $79.95 bhphotovideo . com

  • I have a similar model bought from someone but I can't use it, because I don't have a stand

  • When I don't have a stand available, I lean the greenscreen against the wall, or use thumbtacks to hold it flap against the wall.

The greenscreen has grommets so using tacks is easy and safe.

  • does this work with sony vegas

  • Yes, this works with all versions of Sony Vegas and Sony Movie Studio

  • Thanks!

  • Thankyou! I am thinking about getting the editor thing but i dont know if you have to have a sony camcorder! Well nice video!! Just PM me or reply back!

  • Vegas will work with video from any camcorder. I usually work with a Canon HV20 camcorder.

  • can you paint a green screen onto a wall?

  • Yes, but you would have to worry about the reflection of light on the paint.

It is less expensive to buy a greenscreen backdrop (around $40) and thumbtack it on the wall.

  • thanks m8

  • Also you should go to TubeTape . com, They sell the most cheapest Greenscreen and Bluescreen

  • can u do this but w/ white instead of green?

  • You can use any color, but blue and green work best.

If you use white, and white on the person on camera will also be keyed out. That is not usually a desired effect.

  • then i will wear all purple...

how do u set the color to white, i tried moving the colors to all white, but it didnt work, mayb i did it wrong

  • See my 'Secret to great chromakey with Sony Vegas Movie Studio' video on YouTube.

It shows how to adjust background color for best chromakey.

  • Hi Bill,

Your videos, are great, do you have any details on this backdrop that you thumbtack on the wall? Also, what model did you use in your tutorial.

Thanks and keep up the great work!

  • You can find the collapsible green screens at B&H Photo for $79.95. Item number: BOBGC57036 bhphotovideo . com

  • dang! this is impressive, now I know how tehboxnoob did that thing in his video! thankx! U OWN!

  • The same thing for Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8? Right?

  • Yes, use the saem technique for any version of Sony Vegas or Sony Movie Studio.

Be sure to view my other YouTube video showing how to get even better chromakey with Sony Movie Studio and Vegas.

  • will do, thanx

  • Hey Bill. I have Problem in Sony Vegas 6.0. Everytime I add a effect/plug in one of my videos, for example Color Balance, I turn it all blue. And there is one square about a little lower and left for the middle of the video that wont turn to the color or effect that I want. It was fine untill I updated it to manage to make MPEG files. I hope you can help me because you're the man ;)

    Thanks

  • The quality (and ability) to apply effects often depends on the quality of the source video files.

If your source files are from a cell phone, video game or similar device, they are likely encoded in DIVX codec, and this codec is so lossy as to make editing or adding effects all but impossible.

  • I just found out that it's just in the preview in the down left corner. when I render it, it's all OK. Thanks anyway ;)

  • Bill is the man.

  • Bill, you have been so helpful with so many videos, thank you so very much. We're just guys makink motorcycle videos for sun. Thanks again.

  • hey i was wondering if your done a video in vegas 7 and you install vegas movie studio can you import your movie in vegas 7 into a movie that has no clips in it in vegas movie studio

  • You can not import project files from Vegas 7 into Movie Studio.

You can import from project files from Movie Studio into Vegas - as long as the version of Movie Studio is the same or less than the version of Vegas.

  • what if you render them as a wmv file

  • You can import any rendered video files into any version of Vegas or Sony Movie studio.

But not the .veg or .vf project files themselves.

  • make sure that your overlay video (the one with you in the chair) is matched to the output aspect of your project to get rid of the illusion of your legs being cut off.

  • where have you buy that green screen and how much is it?

    Thanks for the tip!:D

  • You can find the collapsible green screens at B&H Photo for $79.95. Item number: BOBGC57036 bhphotovideo . com

  • okay and another question where can i found some animations for on de back side?

  • Digital Juice is a good source for animated backgrounds.

You can find some free ones there - search google for digital juice free downloads , then choose the 'video' category at digital juice, then download the free background animiations you want

  • not to bring you down or anything, but if you are going to give tutorial try and make sure you give a proper one. for instance make sure people know that while shooting a video they dont want to mix light sources, as sun and light bulb. they are different types of lights, blue and most of the times red. and it is highly recommended that at one point you be using only one of them.

  • Uniform lighting is the deciding factor. I bought a couple Noma 1000 W halogen worklights from Canadian Tire and they do a great job on guerilla home production. Can get them from 20 to 40 bucks a pop new. Excellent videos. Very resourceful!

  • do you know if you can use a mask feature in vegas movie studio platinum 8.0?

  • Excellent video! Thanks so much!

  • Bill,

I am having difficulty with a soft green glow around my subject. I softened my back ground lighting and moved subject further from the screen (7feet). Still having issues. Any tips?

  • In the above clip, I used the default settings for green. It worked out well.

If you search my list of YouTube videos, you'll find a clip where I show how to adjust the chromakey settings to get a better key.

  • Thanks Bill, I did follow both tutorials and several others. I used the eyedropper and made some adjustments. The glow is much less but now I have very jagged edges.

  • how do you do the eyedropper in vegas movie studio?

  • See my video titled Creating green screen chromakey with Sony Vegas Movie Studio.

At 1:30 into the video, you'll see the eyedropper. You can use the eyedropper to get a strip of color to use as the key color.

  • can you show us your green screen set?

  • Didn`t you see it in the video?

  • you have the Platinum Edition of Vegas Movie Studio which lets you render and insert HD videos. i dont like the regular version, but i have to get used to it.

  • I edited this video with Movie Studio 7 Platinum - which does not offer HD editing.

Movie Studio 8 Platinum does, but not Movie Studio 7 Platinum.

All my videos are shot in SD.

  • i know its not HD editing, but it saves HD movies which i Truly looking forward too.

  • My movie studio platinum supports HD.

  • nice work man :)

I've one question. Where can I get some good moving background? (for example the globe)

  • Awesome work, Bill. Thank you.

  • Cool, good video, Bill.

  • chroma key has got to be one of the greatest things ever for movie editing. I freakin love it. I used it in pinnacle and had no clue wat it was and then i moved into vegas 7 and it was just amazing after i knew what it was all about.

  • I have vegas movie studio, but i dont know how to upload a video to youtube. could you help me?

  • Interesting that your simple lighting produces such a good effect. That frame idea, keeping the screen taut seems a good approach. Thanks.

  • Bill

Although I was aware of Chromakey before, it was useful to see how it can actually be used. Nice touch to use the zoom on your video camera to show the actual environment of the recording.

  • thanks Bill, cool video.

  • maybe u can look at my setup and see where i go wrong! Maybe everything the camera the light who knows i cant get the screen to go black black! and if i do i go black with it

  • Check the video I just uploaded that shows how to set up Sony Movie Studio for Chromakey. It is titled 'Creating Green screen effects with Sony Movie Studio'
