I'm learning this piece right now, I really like your interpretation! The way you play the arpeggiated chords is wonderful, and you have great control over your dynamics. I hope to one day play to your ability :)
@PSearPianist May I have the sheet music for this piece, I am a huge fan of Joe Hisaishi, I've heard a lot of different versions of this song, but this one is by far best
@SouskeSagara1 Thanks for your messages. I don't have the sheet music - I borrowed it from a library and returned the score. If you search for the title on the MusicRoom site you should find it - I think it is in a book of Essential Film Themes.
@PeppermintRose1 Thanks - that's a really great comment. Alas I don't have the sheets - I played from a book I borrowed from a library. If you search for the title in Musicroom, you should find the book - one of MusicSales ' Essential Film Themes ' series.
Wow, you have just made my day a lot brighter, thank you for playing this piece. I would also like to congratulate you not just on technique, but also, I have noticed that your music really comes from the heart, I could really feel a lot of emotion coming from it.
sometimes i wonder why isn't reprise as famous as one summer's day and always with me? Reprise is my favorite song from Spirited Away, it always has ever since the first time i saw it. Thank you for playing this song, you much talent and you play beautifully.

@Elyshazz Thanks very much. Alas I do not have the equipment or knowhow to do a tutorial, but there are a lot of people who specialise in that, and maybe you will find one already here on YouTube.
Beautiful playing of a beautiful song. This piece was used in a scene which never fails to bring tears to my eyes with it's tenderness, simplicity and innocence. May I ask where you got your sheet music? I'd love to play this as well. Thank you so much for posting :)
@lhfsing I played from a book I borrowed from a library called 'Film Music for Solo Piano' published by Chester Music. You can find it on the Musicroom website, and you can also download a version of this piece alone as a digital download from there
I can't play piano but that's one of my dreams, and when I see you play Hisaishi's pieces with so much talent, I want an only thing : move my hands to fulfill this dream ! Thank you a lot for this wonderful interpretation !
@PSearPianist You don't look a day over 60 :) Keep up the beautiful piano playing. Do you have anymore Miazaki pieces? Actually, I'll just go look now... :)
I really enjoyed the video, but is there any way you could improve the audio a little? I feel the uploaded audio does you no justice to how you probably actually played.
@pakiah Thank you. The audio probably does leave something to be desired, and I have changed my editing process recently. Nevertheless, I like to stick with the camera mikes to achieve spontaneity.
Great masterpiece sir, well done... it let me relax and took me to another world... i rarely listen to piano or classical music but the way you play, heck i'd put you top ten. i have to mention though you look like the old man in spirited away who works at the boilers :)
This song always brings me good memories back in the days. The way you play it simply brings me into another world. You have a "God given talent". I am blessed acknowledge such skills as yours.
@bleach1804 Thank you very much! I'm ashamed to say that I have not seen the movie, but I certainly listened to the soundtrack before making this video.
@PSearPianist If you haven't seen the movie, I definitely recommend it :) The soundtrack is a gigantic reason of why the movie was so successful, in my opinion.
Bravo! You've re-inspired me to learn this song - I stopped halfway to learn another song. I absolutely love your rendition. :D It definitely captures the emotions from the original orchestra version.
@PSearPianist Let me explain it further Mr Sear :) Your interpretation is like, to metaphor, a tofu based veggie cake I had today which tasted exactly like cheese cake but was put natural ingredients by skillful chef - a jaw-dropper. To summarize, I guess original Reprise didnt used single piano, so I cannot believe that you made this work with single piano, Thus its amazing like vegetarian food, feels natural, tastes just like original one!
@FalconsViewpoint Thank you for that interesting explanation. Actually I played from a published piano arrangement, but added to the middle section having listened to the soundtrack CD so that I could get as close as possible to the orchestral sound. This is the sort of thing I have to do often in my work as an accompanist for opera rehearsals, where I have to recreate for the singers the impression of full orchestra!
Thank you Mr Bean. If you are an alchemist, maybe you can let me know how I can turn base metals into gold - or maybe ordinary piano videos into multi-million view hits!
I can't remember. Probably about 2 days between first playing it through and recording it (and in that time I also listened to the soundtrack recording so I could hear what it sounded like with orchestra).
Hmm, this IS a very good piece from Hisaishi. I have the score for One Summer's Day if you would like it. Also a quick question: Did you ever take formal lessons for the piano?
Thank you! I did indeed take formal lessons and lots of exams (the last completed only five years ago). I don't think I would have been able to play lots of classical music without formal tuition.
Thank you!. Good luck with your own study. I would recommend you to fill in the central waltz section a bit to give an impression of running quavers like in the soundtrack recording, because if you play it as it appears in the printed piano score it is a bit bare.
I only speak English, but I make careful use of online translation facilities (always using the 'back translation' option) to reply to commentators in their own language!
And by the way, I want to tell you that I'm studying a Clementi's work, The 2nd piece of his book "Gradus Ad Parnassum".. But I find no video post of it in Youtube.. So I don't have an acceptable interpretation to hear and to have a little reference, except of my teacher's one.. But it's not enough for me.. So, it would be very nice from your part if you published that piece.. If you can, of course.. I'm not obligating you.. I just propose this ... What do you think?
I will have a look Could you send me a message with the tempo marking and key of the piece just so that I can be sure that my copy of the Gradus is in the same order.

I'm so glad I subscribed to this channel! Joe Hisaishi is one of my favourite movie composers and 'Spirited Away' is my favourite animated film! You have a 'Green Mile' video as well that's just as good. Where are you getting these fantastic scores?
Thank you! I have mainly used the 'Essential Film Themes' books - a numbered series, which I get from my local library. Where I can I check them out with the OST recordings - not always possible.
WOW!!the piece brings back lots of memories..may i suggest "one summer day"?..that one's really good,too..if you have time, that is..considering all the classical pieces you record everyday!..lol..God Bless..:D

This is the only Hisaishi piece I have ever seen in print - his music is not so easily found here in the UK!
