@365to173repubsPWNED Ohhhh thank you very much thats a better word, jajaja anyway i wont paid attention to your unjustified racism, its how you want to feel superior, i respect that, because maybe your life sucks that bad you have to canalize your anger and hate to some people! So ok, continue with your life and try to be happy! :)
@madleo777 honestly you didn't see that i was trolling this video from the first comment i put? fyi i'm puerto rican/mexican..i like pissing people off who take themselves too seriously
@sonyandroger Yes, she says, " Yo me besaba la mano imaginando que era tu."
However, what she meant to say is, " Yo me besaba la mano imaginandome que eras tu." which translates to " I used to kiss my hand imagining that it was you."
its obviously her boyfriend was killed in a car accident... he happened to be mexican. i cant find this song anywhere else, id like to download it, help?
@MaRiiiYuh i don't see it as him getting run over to be honest, 'first kiss'. if they were in a relationship then wouldn't they have already kissed ? he walked away, or he never existed... the perfect man in her mind, but over time as she grew up that thought faded. and like a memory it became nothing but a tombstone, with the memory etched onto it. ect ect o.o
True story. We were six. He was the cutest boy on the block, long black hair, tan skin, sweet and wonderful, we ate snow cones from the ice cream truck together everyday. I loved him. He died of brain cancer. I'm 38, and I still think about him.
Ambrosia said its about "my almost very first boyfriend. I was twelve; he was fifteen. I was probably about two days away from getting my first kiss from him, and he got hit by a car on his bike and he died. All the girls in the whole neighborhood were in love with him; he was perfect, he was sweet as an angel, and he was beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. And we all went to the funeral, and of course it was the full-on Latin open casket, the everything funeral. So that was my first funeral."
Hi again. Here is another way to interpret the song. The singer said it was a song about "the first boy she ever loved and she was 12" so...The song is could be about her falling in love with an illegal Mexican immigrant. @ 1:13 to 1:41 it implies this and that he was deported so she never saw him again. it says "the rain wash washed you AWAY". her first coffee, cigarette, pill & KISS was not an experience with him but she would have wanted it that way. he was "still" becuase he was arrested :(
If you love him, then marry the guy. Love is a very rare beauty that not everyone is fortunate to experience. Don't let anyone or anything take that away from you.
I recommend more of Shivaree if you like this song. All their songs are just as good or better than this one.
@shakimaro Thank you for your attempts to explain the lyrics. I think it's about a young boy she loved, who died in a car accident. What really puzzles me is the final line "holding that still". Could it mean "I'm holding that in my memory still" ? What do you think?
its a song about her Mexican boyfriend. She is just looking about the love she had for him and her experiences with him. The song suggest that he died in a car accident when it says "a man drifted over the line. DROVE you away and a little girl out of her mind" at 1:12 . She then continues to explain that he will never know her first kiss becuase he was "standing that still" at 3:00 in other words not moving/dead.
I was never sure what she said during that part, but it was always my favorite part. I even asked a native Spanish speaker friend of mine to try to figure it out and he didn't know what she was singing. I could almost swear her last two words in that part were quiere tu, but I don't really have much of an ear for Spanish. Thanks for your translation... it makes more sense than what I originally thought.
To me, it has to do with a guy she loved and never got to express her feelings to. He died, and she never got to have her first special moments with him. This is my personal interpretation of the song.
yes, that is what the song is about but....it was because of something UNCONTROLLABLE. the separation happens when she says "drove you away.. and a little girl out of her mind" (deportation or death by car accident are the only logical reasons i find for that line).
glad to here from someone else who like Shivaree. I'm a huge fan and own all albumes, EPs and singles w/ unreleased tracks. yup, i'm a Shivaree freak.
Loooove this. When I first heard it a while back, I didn't know what to do with myself.

It never says "mexican boyfriend" in the song but from 2:13 to 2:28 she sing in SPANISH.
"yo me besaba la mano imaginando que eras tu" wich translates to
"i would kiss my own hand imagining it was you".
apparently it's a true story about the singer's boyfriend.
hope that helps :) I hope i didn't bore you.
