    Customer Reviews:

I bought this camera to replace my TZ5. The TZ5 is a great camera: awesome lens, easy to use, HD video, 3in high-res screen. The problem I had with the TZ5 is that it wasn't portable enough to `carry on me'. I finally made my rounds with the FX150 and got rid of my TZ5. No regrets! The FX150 fit the bill as a 'carry on me' camera. The ...

  • woow TY SO MUCH FOR OPEN MY EYES *-* b4 buy a camera

  • I am on a grand quest to find point and shoot cameras that shoot the best videos. Just when I thought the Fujifilm F550EXR's video looked good, I discovered the Panasonic Z and Sony H series.

Ultimately though, I found the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150's video quality to be godly even against DLSRs. But it's $500 and I can get a DSLR for a bit more.

Can anyone suggest anything else or is it really just Panasonic and Sony the ones with the best video quality? Specific models will be appreciated.

  • I have a TZ10 and it's unbeatable in video quality. Just watch this clip I filmed at the Oxford University and you'll see how sharp it is and how dynamic the colors are: watch?v=3fokNUdUXro

If the light streaks are your argument for not getting this camera then you'd better re-think your priorities because with a little planning of your shots you need not get any 'blooming' as it is called.

    TZ10 FTW!! :)

  • Heres an very good example video of the quality!

Hier ein gute Beispielvideo für die Qualität!

  • TZ10 wins

  • thank you very good

  • Obviously the TZ10 wins hands down here.

  • No comparison, Sony shoots in 1080. I have compared all brands and Sony is easily the best HD video compact camera video on the market. Stills are another matter.

  • panasonic never fails FOR SOME REASON! hahaha they're great.

  • Panasonic DMC TZ10 ZS7 BEST THE !!!!!!

  • Very good video comparisons! I agree with your conclusions. The white light streaking in the Lumix is not good, but otherwise the picture quality is better than the Sony.

  • Why haven't Panasonic solved the "light streak problem"? I have the old Lumix FS3 and it behaves just like this TZ10/ZS7 in very lighty conditions. It's retarded and makes your video shots unuseful.

  • The image stabilization on the HX5V is way better than the panasonic. I have seen quite a few of your comparison videos and I think the panasonic is a lot more shaky when moving. I have the HX5V and the optical stabilization is probably the most impressive feature to me, especially when walking.

  • @Ralph123x The Sony is a nice camera, but the Lumix beats it due to its superior Leica lens. Anyone who is serious about their photo and video will carry a tripod or at least a lightweight monopod, so the image stabilization argument goes out the window. I would much rather have a camera that gets better sharpening natively than adding it via electronics or PP. In this case, Sony's "warm" equates to "blurry" by comparison.

    To each their own, though.

  • @DArklite2007 If I am going to carry my tripod or monopod I will use it with my Panasonic GH1, which is superior to both of these cameras. But if I want to carry something that will fit in my pocket to take decent handheld video while walking around without any gear, I need something with good optical image stabilization, or the video is unwatchable. This is why I bought a pocket point-and-shoot. So to me the stabilization feature is very important.

  • Après avoir vu toutes ces vidéos comparatives, je penche plus vers le panasonic plus proche de la réalité.

Merci de faire partager ce travail fort interessant.

Dommage que du coté macro il n'y a rien.

  • Panasonic

  • Great comparison! Gives a better idea of both cameras. I think the Panasonic looks much better. The colours are more vivid compared to the Sony.

  • Great comparison! Gives a better idea of both cameras.

  • I think the sony is better, the panny has a blue tint at times and the light streaks don't look good.

  • the light strikes are the only reason not to buy it :(

  • PS3 looks better

  • Great video! Thanks for the comparison.

  • Mike, these are very helpful vids. Like others, I'm deciding between the ZS7 and HX5V. A few questions: 1) is there a way that you have tried to remove those white/purple lines from the ZS7 and 2) do you know of the Unsharp Masking effect on the HX5V is a setting that can be 'turned on' for all pics and vids? Thx

  • I'd love to buy sony but HX5 is not available in our country yet, so gotta go with ZS7....

  • I'd love to buy sony but HX5 is not available in our country yet, so gotta go with ZS7...

  • panasonic looks sharper, cooler.. while sony's is soft, it looks more true to life. and panasonic's purple lines are awful :(

  • what's up with the purple vertical lines with the panasonic?!

  • Because the cameras are next to each other, one camera will pick up the glare. If the cameras where one on top of each other, you would both be getting the glare.

  • Because the cameras are next to each other, one camera will pick up the glare. If the cameras where one on top of each other, you would both be getting the glare. To me it's looks as if the Lumix was on the Right and the Sony on the Left. Is actually reverse video presentation.

  • Ola sou o grandona editor de vídeo..... é obvio que houve edição diferentes nos dois vídeos.. a sony pojeta imagem melhor que qualquer outra maquina

  • What did you use to edit this!? I can't find anything anywhere that lets you put 2 videos side by side like that! That would be a miracle if you told me what you used! Please and thank you!! (unless it's iMovie...I have a PC...)

  • for me this video is fake, look at other videos made with HX5V, without being compared with other compact cameras. so you can clearly see the difference..

  • it just like compare x360 vs ps3....

  • The panasonic is alright. But it make a sound of a running stream behind it. Sony is quiet. Also panasonic does not take good picture, but I am using class 2 SD card so don't know if this was my problem.

  • @mongyaj It does make a difference. Make sure you have a class 6 or better.

  • Mike, this was so helpful. I have been looking for a good camera that can replace my aging digital camcorder since we often don't have it with us, (too big to carry in pocket), and a lot of our videos end up being impromptu videos with family. I had narrowed to Sony's dsc hx5 and the tz10 zs7 and you had a great set of examples here that clearly put the lumix in front for me. This is exactly what I needed, thank you.

  • the zs7 is amazing

  • I don't think that the 'side-by-side comparison' does any justice to the Sony hx5v. Your above footage looks kind of blurry/soft on the Sony, which I can not confirm with my just bought camera. Although I'm lacking some editing skills , my just released zoom-test video "WOW! Sony Cybershot DSC..." shows the Sony Cybershot DSC-HX5V doesn't have to fear any competitor. It's top quality to me.

  • These purple lines that appear on the Panasonic DMC TZ10 ZS7 are very ugly and annoying.

  • Im having a problem with video import... cant get them to load on my computer, even though I bought a converter for my Vista OS.... just get really poor quality with jumpy vids... any suggestion?

  • @Rahavin1 get rid of vista!

  • better contrast w/ sony though artifacting is a disappointment. more blooming in red w/ the cycler

  • lol, but i thought the sony has full hd ... im confused :S

  • If u want to do a video showing the zoom capabilities on near objects i would THANK u so much.. comparing the two cameras.. I rather make some Macro photos.. that's my idea too.. May I get some medium DLSR just to do that? But it's big.. :(

  • how about the MACRO still images on TZ10? is it near like my finger? lol..

  • hmm... I'm conflicted. At first glance I do like the Panasonic's video better, but the Sony excels in shadow/bright detail, which is all but lost in the Panasonic. The Pana has that "crispy" feel because it's bluer and they really bring out the white contrast to sharpen the picture. This is great for the standard lighting but again loses detail in low light or bright areas, and causes the streaking. I wonder if there is a white-level setting on the Sony that would make it more "crispy"...

  • i have the sony dsc hx5v at 3 months and i can say that is very good for photo and movie HD 1080i. Very clear and sharp. So all the people can say what they want but the true is that this machine is very good.

  • @amandioagencias Totally agree with you. Check my "WOW! Sony Cybershot DSC-HX5V..."zoom-test video. I'm totally thrilled after first day of shooting...:)

  • I've had my TZ10 for about 1 month now, I love it to pieces - the light streaks are a non issue for me, I only get them pointing at the sun, and they do not manifest in photos when doing so. It's a video only thing apparently. Details are much crisper on the TZ, Sony seems to be soft and smudgy by comparison.

  • I really want to see a comparison between the TZ10 and the Canon SX210 if anyone knows a video showing the comparison please link me, thanks :)

  • @WhoDoesThatt ...infosync review already confirmed the ZS7 video performance is better ..however the SX210 low light video is better than the ZS7

  • be warned....sony has bad sound ,concert recording check the tube some dude post.....ok to bad i love sony damn.....grrrr

  • if it wasn't for the light streaks I'd buy the panasonic :(

  • @boalohanuiloa1 ..ihave the the panasonic & i have not yet ..not even once experienced the light streaks at all...& all i shoot is daylight vids

  • @barnyard27 thank you for your input. I'm not sure why most of the youtube videos show streaks then. maybe it's a setting thing or you just have a defaulty camera. lol. =) I don't think I'm gonna go with the sony since image seems duller and audio I heard wasn't good. Guess it'll be the tz10 or canon sx210.

  • yes lumix is o.k watch at 1.21 water surface much better on lumix then watch at 7.47 tree in the background clear /again lumix

  • great info thanks !

  • This a a great idea to make a legitimate comparison of these 2 popular cameras - HOWEVER, unless both were set on complete default auto while videoing, then without knowing the settings you selected for each camera a comparison such as this is quite worthless and can easily mislead anyone who views it. Were both cameras on full auto while videoing?

  • Thanks Mike!!! This helped me make my decision between the two. That and the $100 cheaper price for the Lumix. BTW, you can get the Lumix from Amazon for $247 shipped the promotional code ZS7JUNEI ($50 off)

  • Panasonic much better.

  • these light streakings are awful

    S.H.A.M.E. for Panasonic!

  • That was very useful! Thank you!

How long (minutes) can you film with HD before the accu runs out? And how much megabyte does 1min or 5 min take? Thank you for uploading! Hope someon can help me!:)

  • haha definitly the lumix^^ no one can say the sony^^ the lumix is 20% pbetter i think... mich clearer colors... but only 20%

  • What caused the purple streaking? Is that what they call "barring" from the SDHC card not being fast enough? Or is that something that occurs from strong reflected light?

  • @recordplayr Nevermind I read your comments about the streaking.

  • voll die verarsche!!!wie kann man den mit 2 kameras gleichzeitig nach links und rechts schwenken ohne eine sekunde verzögerung!!!!

  • @SuperXbutterflyx das nennt sich STATIV

  • The colour balance and overall look of the daytime video is in many respects far better with the Panasonic. I was considering the Sony because itt supposedly has very good low light performance. But then again I take 95% of my shots in day light. The evening night time thing is mostly a sexty sales argument.

I can use my D90 for evening shots.

The Panasonnic is sexier, slimmer, has a more impressive lens, zooms during vid, had good audio, and a neutral wite balance for vid

    Thanx! Good vid

  • Again, the Sony is slightly too red. Very noticable on the flowers at 7:40. White on the left, pink on the right.

  • i think the pany was noticeably crisper vivid and more HD-ish looking.... although the purple shafts of light scare me a bit. i have not seen that effect at all in any other footage from the ZS7. i am still looking to buy the pany.

  • what about the audio? which camera took it?

  • the sony looks better.....

  • @doomdart no it dosnt, your a sony fan i guess, mee tooo. but the panasonic took it by far in less blur and more vivid crisp stereo by the way VIDEO

  • Im goin to buy the sony one... the panasonic has always a strange effect when heavy light comes in.... the sony is even 100 bucks cheaper.

  • @OpticalHaze , the sony costs £330 and the panasonic only costs £250. I was goin 2 buy the Sony but it comes at a price dat is affordable, but seems like a waste. i mean £330 wtf.

  • @OpticalHaze Panasonic is much better. I have the ZS3 and aside from the rare light streaks, there is no other weird effects. Sony is so dull and soft that it doesn't even matter that it shoots at 1080p. Check my vids if you want to see how the ZS3 performs at night time with bright light.

  • nice)

  • sony is better. sorry but is true

  • @amandioagencias haha what? dont you have any eyes,... the lumix is much much more clearer !

  • @amandioagencias If you like soft or smudged, sure it is.

  • @amandioagencias I guess you will also say that Hyundai is better than Mercedes, assuming that you drive a Hyundai.

  • you know something about casio ex fh100 or canon sx210? i a video comparison between hx5v and sx210, and sx210 is brighter, but is not so good on the corner of the photos like hx5v.

canon has the great feature of slowmotion, but, and the other functions? i see other hd video and dont like it, the water not look so good like panasonic, i think is worst than hx5v

panasonic has the great leica lens, but this light streak peace me off, and no one great function

i dont know what camera ai will buy

  • Thanks Mike! Do you plan on any Night Scenes? I'm looking to buy the Sony thinking it may perform better during overcast/rainy days here in Seattle. Also, what about the photo quality? Which do you think is a better digicam?

  • @kuro4321 During the day, the sony will bring you the higher resolution with its 1440x1080 recording formats. But as you can see in the side by sides, Panasonic gives that crispy feeling in their video. Photo quality will probably lean towards Panasonic, especially at night. With one shot, I was able to capture the pond scene. See other vids for the night stuff

  • @mikesmultimedia how did u do these videos? lol, i have the hx5v already, but im seriously thinkin about getting the panasonice as well
