Hi, thanks for the video, I have a hp slimline s3220la, the same problem, work by work in 3D, you need to install a video card, the video I see and I understand as I can, because I do not speak English, but if you can give me a written description of what you do in the video I appreciate it, even if you know how I can do to send me the source power to Guatemala, thanks. Please answer
anyone able to point me in the right direction for 300w or more psu for an acer aspire x3400 slimline pc?.. or would one of the psus listed here (the 270 possibly) fit into an acer aspire x3400 slmline series
You know although I haven't finished looking at all this video that's why I paused it to type this, this is really interesting. I'm looking to see where I can get some connections for an LG Blu-ray+HD DVD Drive.
i have a slim hp an it wont come on anymore the little green light on the psu is on an the power botten did flash when you tryed to trun it on but not anymore any clues to whats rong with it
I got a question: If I were to install the 9800GT on a SlimLine, could I use an external PSU just for the card without the need to change the internal PSU? I have a 430Watt Thermaltake PSU that has the 6 pin PCIE power connector. I'm thinking of just placing the PSU up top the case, and get that connector inside to the card. Would that work?
Hey Achaea, I checked out your {H}ardforum posts about the HP Slimline and after a bit of looking I just decided to ask you directly: What PSU / GPU / Cooling system would you recomend for a s3200n model? My current specs are: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ @2.5Ghz, 2.5GB DDR2 ram and an ATi Radeon HD4350. Everything runs great, and I played Batman: AA at Med-High ~25fps average but some games are coming out that I can't quite handle. Feel free to e-mail me or just respond. Thanks =D
hello i have the hp s3422.uk it like the same pc i bought this not working the problem is when you switch it on there is no display i removed the graphics card and tested it on another pc and its fine is there a way i can enable the on board card to test and see if it works help please
Give any of those power supplies a year running a quad core CPU and a 9800GT and open it up. I'll bet there will be capacitors leaking everywhere... if the computer even turns on anymore. Those tiny fans (or should I say, tiny fan) simply don't cut it in the long run, and you'll end up with more problems than you started with.

little shit, i hate those computer, it complicate my life with a customer. Why dont make power supply connector like every fucking PSU. I cant test it, I have to buy an adapter wtf! thx hp so bright.
i have a HP PAVILLION SLIMLINE PC S3010 n id like to upgrade the bolloks graphics card its got, thinking of a nvidia 7800 gt but not sure if it will fit can someone help?
Check the forum, page 188, the post right after yours (post 3759). I responded to your question there, and I provided a link to the page where you can buy it.
Interesting, someone I know is getting a Dell Inspiron 537s, and it says it's a 250w power supply, but it can run a Radeon 4350 which requires a 300w power supply, someone said it actually is more than 250w. That would need a low profile card, and I just wonder which would work.
i'm going to get a hp pc but its not a slimline its a desktop can any psu fit in i want to get a geforce 9800 gt but it requires more watts and i'm scared
hello I tell you that try to get the power supply in Argentina and I can not find there any way to buy it and send it to me in the house that you bought it?
I'm a little scared about upgrading the PSU, I sit my HP slim upright so I'm not sure if it will come down on my motherboard and short it out.. Because no PSU I could find has all the screw mounts so I'm not sure if the PSU I buy with on 2 screw lining up will be strong enough or not..
In the video you can see how firmly two screws holds the PSU in. The little ledge catches the PSU even with NO screws in place. Don't fret that issue.
Hey its me again, I've bought the ATI 4550 on my HP slimline works great! But i have another question, I have a normal large desktop pc with a strandard 250 watt psu, i would like that too be upgraded to a 500 watt psu, my desktop model is a Packard Bell ISTART AIO with the following specs:
Intel Pentium D, 3.6Ghz,
1GB Ram DDR2 PC4300
100GB HD
Onboard SIS MIRAGE Graphics
Please tell me a suitable 500 watt psu and can you provide the link? Thanks!
@iTehTunePawd If you held in the PSU with just one screw, it would still be held in well enough. :P I've never once heard of a PSU breaking off the screws.
hello how are you? I want to know what it is called the source to see if I get it, the motherboard did not give you problems after you installed the power supply? posivilidad that there is any if you send me the money sent by mail to Argentina?
I doesn't look bad by the specifications, but it is not certified 80+ in the newegg link (80+ is a testament to quality and effiiciency) I'd say chose the $50 Sparkle 270 watt that has been proven a reliable PSU rather than an unknown $60 Athena.
most likely yes --- slim computers typically use lower power components and so you'll likely get away skating under the standare power supply requirements. BUT keep in mind that heat generation may still be an issue and you may need to purchase additional fans for your Dell Slim.
Yes - I've played any number of games including crysis with the 9800GT and a 270 watt PSU in my slimilne...I've never had any problems. The 400watt PSU requirement is suggested to accomidate all various PC builds with various CPUs, and hard-drive configurations. The slimlines have low power draw virutally everything in compared to a typical desktop so the 270 watt PSU is perfectly adequate for a 9800GT. Read [H[ardforum for your answers to this very question.
I saw the 9800 (low profile) power requirements were a 400watt power supply. Have you ever tried Crysis with this? Does your PC crash if it the graphics card demands too much power? Also what are your power settings in the control panel? thanks
I mean if it was 50 watts it might no make a difference but if the GFX card was rated at 400w and you're using 300 that's a large jump. Thanks again.
What do you think of the IN WIN IP-P300F1-0 300W TFX12V Power Supply? I was thinking of getting the Galaxy 96GFF6VIFCXX GeForce 9600 GT what do you think of that card? thanks
The In Win is of lower quality than the Sparkle. Some of the people at the thread in [H]ard forum linked in the video summary have had problems with that PSU...I'd recommend the 270 watt sparkle.
without changing your power supply you'd better not go to an 8600GT. If you get the in_win you can use any low profile card you want. The best card is the sparkle 9800gt but you'll have to buy additional fans to keep the slimilne cool. The low power low profile 9600GT is also a favorite.
No. I used an 8400GS on my s3020n with the stock 160 watt PSU and had trouble. The 8400GS can use as much as 40 watts from what I've read, unless you found a low power consumption revision.
Thanks for the advice, I see post bellow you say the ATI 4550 will work with the stock 160 watt supply. Do you know of any other cards that might work?
the HD4550 is the best card you can buy ojn the stock 160 watt PSU. You can use a 9300GS if you can find one, or a 8300GS but those are not quite as good of cards as the HD4550.
I tried to put an ATI HD4350 in my pavilion. But without any success. First problem was the drivers crashing on install, after that when playing any games for about 5mins the screen would go blank and crash. Any idea as to what might be wrong?
who is the manufacturer of the HD4550? is it ATI or Saffire or are they same company? I have a HP S3530f and I need to replace tthe graphics card (Geforce 9500gs) because it started making noise. I do no gaming and only use it for windows media center hd tv. Does the hd455o have hdmi output? Thanks for your help.
i wanna upgrade my slimline..do you knoe what psu wattage i have as i dont wanna open it up cuz its my bros. And are u sure the ATI HD 4550 will work?
I am in the process of ordering the ati 4550 and i just wanna ask you a question..will the ati 4550 stress while playing FPS games on the HP slimline?
You should be fine with the 4550 on a stock PSU. You'll likely want to add a extra 40mm or 50mm fan on the back of the slimline in order to ensure you exhaust the heat from your gaming marathons.
The short answer is yes it'll work. Long answer is that depending on what HD 4550 card you buy it may or may not come with both a low profile and full size mounting bracket. If the one you bought only comes with a low profile (short) metal mounting bracket then you won't be able to hold the video card in the HP without buying a full size bracket from a place called newegg. However - most importantly the video card is compatible --- PCI-E 8x or 16x will work (assuming your HP truly has that)
Im talkiing about my Packard Bell Pc, you've already told me that it will work on the hp slimline stock 160 psu but i want to knoe if it will work on packard bell, my packard bell is full szie pc and has pci-e-x16 will psu 250 watt..all i want to know if it will work on my normal full size pc.
The slim one will, but it's the best ATI card for slimline. Shame, ATI cards typically do better per watt.
The 9800gt is the best there is for now, I got a modded (ha!) s3120n and a generic s3430f, so I never really cared until I saw how much faster good vram is. The 128 bit bus... while it's better then the stock 8500gt's 64bit bus, it isn't going to beat the 9800 256 bit bus (best there is so far).
If you like ATI cards, wait a month or so for the 5350 or the 5550 form ATI to arrive.
i bought the hd 4650 1gb but it doesnt fit in my slimline coz its too big. NE other cards that you suggest?? the ones that will fit in my slimline?? i doubt about the 9800gt coz its just about the same size as the 4650...........plz, im gonna return it n i want a really gud card so i need ur suggestion............
Check on NewEgg, there is a slim 4650, and there is a slim 9800gt.
I have the slim 9800gt (it's also from NewEgg). It's manufactured by SPARKLE, has 512mb of gddr3 ram on a 256 bit bus stock speeds.
Both require a PSU upgrade, micro-fit adaptor (for the Slimline Motherboard, newer slimlines don't need this), Molex-SATA adapter, and Molex-PCIe 6pin adaptor.
The best site for help is at the bottom of the video description, that is where I found out most of this information (and used it!).
By the way, im not looking for anything amazing when it comes to graphics, most of the time ill just be playing Counter strike source, as you might already know, graphics arnt that great.
I have a Dell Inspiron 530S (s for slimline), I have a 250w power supply, i need at least 300 for the 9600GT, my question is, ware can i find a small power supply that can fit in it, yet is still between say 300-450w, is it even possible for under $100. Im new to hardware so i need a little help. :(
Also, do i even need a 300 watt, or can a 9600 run on a 250watt, what would happen? Computer crash? again, im clueless as of now.
gtx 275 will not fit. Also, no slim PSU can provide the kind of power this card needs.
Maybe 4-5 jerry rigged (I know how... but it's not worth it for the price) PicoPSU mounted in your case can do it, but even so, the card is just too big.
The s5xxx series, however, maybe if you used a tfx power supply, with 400w (screw what the box says) and used the slot reserved for the Audio/Video expansion. Then a flexible PCIe16 riser cable at least 6 inches long. Don't forget a little bit of dremel
Nice Video! I have the Slimline S3400F AMD X2. I might fo this upgrade. You think i can also upgrade my processor to a Quad core? Will you advice it or should i just stick with my 2.7 Dual core?
I actually have a 9800GT working perfectly for several months on a 270 watt PSU. I settled on the sparkle PSU because the reliability on the PC50 seemed hit or miss after a while and the sparkle has been 100% reliable.
Is it true that I'll have to use two wires (green&Black)
always to get the machine to turn on and off.. ? I get a good running machine with the wires shorted, but seems like the regular on/off switch would be better.
You don't always have to use the two wires to turn the "machine" on and off. As far I as know, that trick is only used to make sure a power supply (PSU) is running correctly. For daily day to day usage, you can use the regular on/off switch, assuming you have the power supply correctly wired up and connected to the rest of the computer, and that the power supply is connected to a powered AC outlet.
Dude A 9800GT On A 270 Watt, I Have A 150 Watt PSU, Erm Well I Think And Im Looking A For A Good Graphics Card..One Which Uses PCI-Express Interface Please Reply..I Really Need a Graphica Card Too Play GTA San andreas.
May I Ask U Something Else? Well ATI HD 4550 Is 30 Watts Then Becoz The ATI HD Is Equivalent To The N Vidia 9400Gt Then Does That Mean The N-Vidia 9400 GT Is 30 Watts?, Because The ATI HD 4550 Is 30 Watts But Then Performs Better Than The N Vidia one.
It doesn't need 300 watts. Your 150 watt PSU will work. They have to account for crappy PSUs when they claim 300 and also account for PCs that use WAY more power than this slimline. I've been in IT and building computers for about 15 years. You can trust me or don't...but the ATI 4550 will work on a 150 watt PSU in a slimline. Of that I assure you.
Yerr Thanks Dude, I Trust You Dont Worry, I Was Just Curious I Dont Really Wanna Buy A PSU..Im Just Not Up For It If U Know What I Mean, So Will Any Model Of The ATI 4550 work on my psu so say for example, 512DDR2 model or the 1GB DDR3 model will it work?
Nice vid! Although low profile 9800GTs and 1U PSUs aren't even available over here...
But the question had to be asked: Why on earth did you cram a Q9300 and a 9800GT into a tiny little Pavilion Slimline in the first place? ^_^ Although those are sweet 3DMark scores for one!
put an external fan on the side, or you could put a laptop cooling pad underneath to force air into the case. you could also put some small usb powered fans on the back vents to pull air out. check out the "hardforum" link in the description for more ideas etc.
the Shuttle PC50 -300 watt doesn't work on the HP slimline s3620f I tested it on mines, I had to buy the Sparkle SPI270LE - 270 watt so it can turn the computer on! I don't know why but it will give you a problem!!
Did you find a solution for the HP slimline s3620f? I need news on it. About to upgrade mine. If nothing works then I am going to completely tare the hole thing up and put it in a new case. It won't be that hard.
My advice to you is not to buy the Shuttle PC50 -300 watts, it will not turn on the Computer, you will have to put back the old psu, What I did was. I bought the Sparkle SPI270LE - 270 watts, and now it works like a charm, there is no problem with this 1 for the HP slimline S3620F
Wow man, this is great! I am definitely doing this upgrade since I have a hungry "Studio PC". Once again, great work and thanks for posting this public video.
kindom2009. read the post above. Disconnect everything - and connect the green and any of the black ground wires together to switch on the power supply. Verify if you have a good power supply.
Jamaicanshreder, can you try that graphics card in another PC? To ensure it isn't defective?
Zapatilla2009, unplug the PC50, and then unplug the microfit connector, jump the PC50 by shorting the black and green wires with a paper clip - ensure it starts. Then reconnect everything.
Hey I upgraded my graphics card to verto 9600 gt and aslo the power supplie thats 450 watts and 12v 30amps. now heres the problem, every time I try to install the driver it says installed graphics adapter not found. I disabled my onboard video card and I set the bios to pcie, and when i plug the vga in the grafics card theres no singal on the screen.I have a hp slime line can you tell me what im doing wrong?
Please! I have a problem! I used the Shuttle PC50 -300 watt, but when i connected it to the micro fit adapter, and then connected to the motherboard, I only see a yellow light, for 2 seconds, how can i solve this problem, i have the slimline s3620f!
Hi I have a question for you, I am going to upgrade the video card and the power supply, of my HP slimline s3620f and I'm going to use the "Shuttle PC50 -300 watt" power supply, and the question is will I need the "The molex to six pin PCI-E adapter" for the "XFX PVT95GZAFG GeForce 9500 GT 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Low Profile Ready Video Card " that is the video card I'm going to use! Thanks!!

Jungleboy867 2 years ago
I don't have a slimline computer, but my 9800gt works just fine with a 250 watts PSU. Try to get a 9800GT Green Edition.

hello I tell you that try to get the power supply in Argentina and I can not find there any way to buy it and send it to me in the house that you bought it?
cg150t1 2 years ago
I'm a little scared about upgrading the PSU, I sit my HP slim upright so I'm not sure if it will come down on my motherboard and short it out.. Because no PSU I could find has all the screw mounts so I'm not sure if the PSU I buy with on 2 screw lining up will be strong enough or not..
iTehTunePawd 2 years ago

Thanks!
mrlegitshit 2 years ago
@iTehTunePawd If you held in the PSU with just one screw, it would still be held in well enough. :P I've never once heard of a PSU breaking off the screws.

hello how are you? I want to know what it is called the source to see if I get it, the motherboard did not give you problems after you installed the power supply? posivilidad that there is any if you send me the money sent by mail to Argentina?
cg150t1 2 years ago
I have had no problems with my motherboard after updating to the PSU.

What do you think of the Athena Power AP-MFATX30 300W Mini ITX PSU? I messaged you the new egg link.
iTehTunePawd 2 years ago
I doesn't look bad by the specifications, but it is not certified 80+ in the newegg link (80+ is a testament to quality and effiiciency) I'd say chose the $50 Sparkle 270 watt that has been proven a reliable PSU rather than an unknown $60 Athena.
jvonengeln 2 years ago
most likely yes --- slim computers typically use lower power components and so you'll likely get away skating under the standare power supply requirements. BUT keep in mind that heat generation may still be an issue and you may need to purchase additional fans for your Dell Slim.
jvonengeln 2 years ago
Yes - I've played any number of games including crysis with the 9800GT and a 270 watt PSU in my slimilne...I've never had any problems. The 400watt PSU requirement is suggested to accomidate all various PC builds with various CPUs, and hard-drive configurations. The slimlines have low power draw virutally everything in compared to a typical desktop so the 270 watt PSU is perfectly adequate for a 9800GT. Read [H[ardforum for your answers to this very question.
jvonengeln 2 years ago
I saw the 9800 (low profile) power requirements were a 400watt power supply. Have you ever tried Crysis with this? Does your PC crash if it the graphics card demands too much power? Also what are your power settings in the control panel? thanks
I mean if it was 50 watts it might no make a difference but if the GFX card was rated at 400w and you're using 300 that's a large jump. Thanks again.

What do you think of the IN WIN IP-P300F1-0 300W TFX12V Power Supply? I was thinking of getting the Galaxy 96GFF6VIFCXX GeForce 9600 GT what do you think of that card? thanks
iTehTunePawd 2 years ago
The In Win is of lower quality than the Sparkle. Some of the people at the thread in [H]ard forum linked in the video summary have had problems with that PSU...I'd recommend the 270 watt sparkle.

I have an Slimline S3300f
Specs are
2gb ram
AMD 64 Live X 2 2.6ghz
500gb HD
Whats the best card to use? I might be getting the 8600gt and the IN-Win powersupply. Will I need anything else?
R10tK5nt 2 years ago
without changing your power supply you'd better not go to an 8600GT. If you get the in_win you can use any low profile card you want. The best card is the sparkle 9800gt but you'll have to buy additional fans to keep the slimilne cool. The low power low profile 9600GT is also a favorite.

Hi, will a Nvidia 8400 GS low profile work with a un-modified HP slimline s3600 series? The 8400 GS wiki page says it's a 25watt.
SlightyDisturbedNBK 2 years ago 3
No. I used an 8400GS on my s3020n with the stock 160 watt PSU and had trouble. The 8400GS can use as much as 40 watts from what I've read, unless you found a low power consumption revision.
jvonengeln 2 years ago
Thanks for the advice, I see post bellow you say the ATI 4550 will work with the stock 160 watt supply. Do you know of any other cards that might work?
SlightyDisturbedNBK 2 years ago 3
the HD4550 is the best card you can buy ojn the stock 160 watt PSU. You can use a 9300GS if you can find one, or a 8300GS but those are not quite as good of cards as the HD4550.
jvonengeln 2 years ago
I tried to put an ATI HD4350 in my pavilion. But without any success. First problem was the drivers crashing on install, after that when playing any games for about 5mins the screen would go blank and crash. Any idea as to what might be wrong?
SlightyDisturbedNBK 2 years ago
most likely too much heat - how hot is the top of your case? Put a 40mm fan on the back for extra cooling.
jvonengeln 2 years ago
who is the manufacturer of the HD4550? is it ATI or Saffire or are they same company? I have a HP S3530f and I need to replace tthe graphics card (Geforce 9500gs) because it started making noise. I do no gaming and only use it for windows media center hd tv. Does the hd455o have hdmi output? Thanks for your help.

ATI or Sapphire -- either is fine - sapphire is a partner brand. Newegg has a low profile model for $45 shipped and it does have HDMI out.

I am in the process of ordering the ati 4550 and i just wanna ask you a question..will the ati 4550 stress while playing FPS games on the HP slimline?
mrlegitshit 2 years ago
You should be fine with the 4550 on a stock PSU. You'll likely want to add a extra 40mm or 50mm fan on the back of the slimline in order to ensure you exhaust the heat from your gaming marathons.

I Have Another PC, Which Is A Packard Bell System That Has A 250 Watt PSU, Will The ATI 4550 work On That?
mrlegitshit 2 years ago
ha how would I know? What model is it? Does it have PCI-E? Is it low a low profile or full size machine?
jvonengeln 2 years ago
Erm It Has PCI Express x16, It Has 250 Watt PSU, It's A Full Size Machine With Integrated Graphics Card.
mrlegitshit 2 years ago
The short answer is yes it'll work. Long answer is that depending on what HD 4550 card you buy it may or may not come with both a low profile and full size mounting bracket. If the one you bought only comes with a low profile (short) metal mounting bracket then you won't be able to hold the video card in the HP without buying a full size bracket from a place called newegg. However - most importantly the video card is compatible --- PCI-E 8x or 16x will work (assuming your HP truly has that)
jvonengeln 2 years ago
Im talkiing about my Packard Bell Pc, you've already told me that it will work on the hp slimline stock 160 psu but i want to knoe if it will work on packard bell, my packard bell is full szie pc and has pci-e-x16 will psu 250 watt..all i want to know if it will work on my normal full size pc.

SoapyTaco 2 years ago 4
will ati radeon hd 4650 fit in my hp slimline s3500f???
spideyrocksss 2 years ago 2
The slim one will, but it's the best ATI card for slimline. Shame, ATI cards typically do better per watt.
The 9800gt is the best there is for now, I got a modded (ha!) s3120n and a generic s3430f, so I never really cared until I saw how much faster good vram is. The 128 bit bus... while it's better then the stock 8500gt's 64bit bus, it isn't going to beat the 9800 256 bit bus (best there is so far).
If you like ATI cards, wait a month or so for the 5350 or the 5550 form ATI to arrive.
jeremyshaw1 2 years ago 3
i bought the hd 4650 1gb but it doesnt fit in my slimline coz its too big. NE other cards that you suggest?? the ones that will fit in my slimline?? i doubt about the 9800gt coz its just about the same size as the 4650...........plz, im gonna return it n i want a really gud card so i need ur suggestion............
spideyrocksss 2 years ago 3

EDIT: I now have a 9800gt. I had one, but I had to RMA it. Now I have a working one.

Computer crash? again, im clueless as of now.

hello, what kind of a psu do I need if I put an nvidia gtx 275 inside an HP Pavilion Slimline s5150t series
OmarZwos 2 years ago
gtx 275 will not fit.

? I get a good running machine with the wires shorted, but seems like the regular on/off switch would be better.

sorry I missed your question. Sbunkboy3 answered it correctly below.
jvonengeln 2 years ago
You don't always have to use the two wires to turn the "machine" on and off. As far I as know, that trick is only used to make sure a power supply (PSU) is running correctly. For daily day to day usage, you can use the regular on/off switch, assuming you have the power supply correctly wired up and connected to the rest of the computer, and that the power supply is connected to a powered AC outlet.

May I Ask U Something Else? Well ATI HD 4550 Is 30 Watts Then Becoz The ATI HD Is Equivalent To The N Vidia 9400Gt Then Does That Mean The N-Vidia 9400 GT Is 30 Watts?, Because The ATI HD 4550 Is 30 Watts But Then Performs Better Than The N Vidia one.
mrlegitshit 2 years ago
It Says On The Website That The ATI HD 4550 Need A Minimum Of 300 Watts And I Only Have 150 Watts U Sed It Needs Atleast 30.
mrlegitshit 2 years ago
It doesn't need 300 watts. Your 150 watt PSU will work. They have to account for crappy PSUs when they claim 300 and also account for PCs that use WAY more power than this slimline. I've been in IT and building computers for about 15 years. You can trust me or don't...but the ATI 4550 will work on a 150 watt PSU in a slimline. Of that I assure you.

put an external fan on the side, or you could put a laptop cooling pad underneath to force air into the case. you could also put some small usb powered fans on the back vents to pull air out. check out the "hardforum" link in the description for more ideas etc.

the Shuttle PC50 -300 watt doesn't work on the HP slimline s3620f I tested it on mines, I had to buy the Sparkle SPI270LE - 270 watt so it can turn the computer on! I don't know why but it will give you a problem!!

Did you find a solution for the HP slimline s3620f? I need news on it. About to upgrade mine. If nothing works then I am going to completely tare the hole thing up and put it in a new case. It won't be that hard.

kindom2009. read the post above. Disconnect everything - and connect the green and any of the black ground wires together to switch on the power supply. Verify if you have a good power supply.

Jamaicanshreder, can you try that graphics card in another PC? To ensure it isn't defective?
