Well, even if you do not get payed for not winning tournaments, they still flew him to Europe and other regions just for him to have the chance of getting money (travel money he didn't pay a penny for) and otherwise needed to beg for, it's his own fault for not placing good enough to earn money, now he can't travel at all, just shows what an ungrateful fuck he is.

If you check out the interview he did with Wake Up Shoryuken, he pointed out that all of the issues leading to him leaving were his fault (asking to travel to a tournament that same week) and personal (money issues, pressure and not performing well in tournaments). Even SirScoots said they wanted him to stay. All of the sudden he comes out shitting on EG claiming they lied, tricked and used him.

I'm so happy Marn has shown us a different side of him; He's LAUGHING, I've never seen him this down to earth. His falls, failures, and classy nature showed me that he IS a person. If you ask me, it sounds like Marn is claiming that he was tricked by EG into convincing Justin, who was already living in LA at the time to "expand Empire Arcadia to the West Coast", to leave Empire to join EG, and once they got a hold of Justin and later Ricky O, Marn was simply left behind on the team, so he felt that he had to leave EG.
@lilaznkid265 It's unfortunate that he thinks that way because by his logical EG used their Starcraft 2 team just to get a hold of IdrA, because they are good friends with him and to make him look good. Never in my life, being involved with eSports have I heard a player say that they were signed just to make the other player look good. That is a pressure MarN puts on himself. People have always said that MarN walks in Justin's shadow and because he believes that, he lets it get to him.
Justin was a sensei figure to Marn. Justin taught Marn everything about Street Fighter and gave his poor ass food and shelter. Why bite the hand that feeds you? Even if Marn gave his all against Justin, he subconsciously knew that Justin was responsible for everything good in his life, so he constantly lost to Justin. Marn has said in inteviews that beating Justin was impossible. With his new found independence, he finally lost his mental handicap against Justin and won the Round 1 tournament.
4:24, Justin felt lonely and scared moving to a strange, new place like the West Coast. That's why he tricked Marn into leaving Empire. Justin financially supported Marn when they moved to California, but when Justin started losing (not even placing top 8), Marn asked, "Why is Justin getting paid to lose, and I'm getting nothing to lose also?" That's when the jealousy kicked in. Marn beat Daigo in a singles tournament, something Justin has never done, so why is Marn broke?
@19TSEliot48 do you even know justin's contract? They get sponsored to get to tournaments. I doubt they paid extra? And even if they(Justin Wong) do getting sponsored cuts down the travel fees. What's to hate?

I was pretty much under the impression that sponsorships only help out with travel and entry fees. But I guess there's always some extra money for the top shills. Good interview, and this isn't even remotely slander so you don't have anything to worry about :P Now hopefully people will open their eyes a bit more and be more discriminating, which is always a good thing.
The FGC, despite having great competition and a ton of players and fans, are essentially cavemen compared to the organizations trying to sponsor them. Org's like EG have been sponsoring pro teams and traveling for nearly a decade, meanwhile Evo can't figure out how to make an event with 3k viewers in house and 20k on stream into a profit for the players. It's a joke and as long as the FGC thinks they got it figured out and things are working out fine, people like Marn will continue to starve.
@getsaltygopro The difference is EVO World is a grassroots ran community event by individuals from the community acting as a committee. Even the tournaments lined up for the EVO season are only affiliated for giving seeds out per region are by all accounts, separate entities just following Evo's tournament standard format. There is no big corporation behind it like MLG and most likely, never will be.
Thats why they run they all games they can on the ps3 even when the community wants some of the games on the 360 EVO is not what it used to be don't be naive.
@Psyclone0018 Not what I mean. I know of the sponsoring at Evo and sponsoring a league is completely different beast compared to a three day event. That's the main difference. Is Sony sponsoring all the other Road to Evo events? Are they supplying systems and games to all the tournaments for most or all the Evo Qualifiers? No they are not. Montreal Annual Tournament 8 will use 360s for SSF4 and MvC3 until otherwise noted for Evo Quals.
@kwizzeh Evo doesn't have to be ran by professionals to expand in a way that benefits the player base. Companies in the PC competitive gaming scene would sacrifice virgins for Evo numbers at their events. Though it seems like anyone who comes near the FGC with any real know how, experience, or credentials is hated on and chased off yet a clown like Triforce is respected for years despite the fact that they only thing that guy was capable of was organizing FGC slumber parties and cybering.

Justin was a sensei figure to Marn. Justin taught Marn everything about Street Fighter and gave his poor ass food and shelter. Why bite the hand that feeds you? Even if Marn gave his all against Justin, he subconsciously knew that Justin was responsible for everything good in his life, so he constantly lost to Justin. Marn has said in inteviews that beating Justin was impossible. With his new found independence, he finally lost his mental handicap against Justin and won the Round 1 tournament.

I was pretty much under the impression that sponsorships only help out with travel and entry fees. But I guess there's always some extra money for the top shills. Good interview, and this isn't even remotely slander so you don't have anything to worry about :P Now hopefully people will open their eyes a bit more and be more discriminating, which is always a good thing.

The FGC, despite having great competition and a ton of players and fans, are essentially cavemen compared to the organizations trying to sponsor them. Org's like EG have been sponsoring pro teams and traveling for nearly a decade, meanwhile Evo can't figure out how to make an event with 3k viewers in house and 20k on stream into a profit for the players. It's a joke and as long as the FGC thinks they got it figured out and things are working out fine, people like Marn will continue to starve.

@getsaltygopro The difference is EVO World is a grassroots ran community event by individuals from the community acting as a committee. Even the tournaments lined up for the EVO season are only affiliated for giving seeds out per region are by all accounts, separate entities just following Evo's tournament standard format. There is no big corporation behind it like MLG and most likely, never will be.

@Psyclone0018 Not what I mean. I know of the sponsoring at Evo and sponsoring a league is completely different beast compared to a three day event. That's the main difference. Is Sony sponsoring all the other Road to Evo events? Are they supplying systems and games to all the tournaments for most or all the Evo Qualifiers? No they are not. Montreal Annual Tournament 8 will use 360s for SSF4 and MvC3 until otherwise noted for Evo Quals.

@kwizzeh Evo doesn't have to be ran by professionals to expand in a way that benefits the player base. Companies in the PC competitive gaming scene would sacrifice virgins for Evo numbers at their events. Though it seems like anyone who comes near the FGC with any real know how, experience, or credentials is hated on and chased off yet a clown like Triforce is respected for years despite the fact that they only thing that guy was capable of was organizing FGC slumber parties and cybering.
