  • RIP, Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens. You've done so much for rock n' roll, and we'll never forget the impact you had on it.

  • The "switch" wasn't seats, but rather transport between bus and plane. Between life and death in this case!

  • It makes no difference who switched seats, if you hit an Iowa frozen plowed field with a Beachcraft Bonanza, every one is going to die! I grew up there!...poppa

  • My one claim to fame is...I was at thier 2cnd to last show at Fort Dodge, Ia.,I was a junior in high school, and will never forget our priciple anounce the crash over the school pa system you could hear a pin drop the rest of the day, that was 51 years ago...but was only yesterday....much love...poppa

  • It sucks that all the really amazing singer from the oldies day young or for plane crash and it sucks cause they had a very big impact on the music world and had so much for to offer

  • Stopping in Clear Lake Iowa and walking up on the stage in the Surf Ball Room and then visiting the crash site was like being back in the 50's. A must stop if in the area

Stopped here in May 2010 on way to South Dakota to pay my respect.Crash site in middle of nowhere and Surf Ball Room lots of old nostalgic here .Could spend hours there.

  • Shivers along my spine evertytime i hear this version of Mr. Fats Domino's all time classic. Thx a lot for uploading!

  • the bopper wasn't feeling good and switched seats with Waylon. Buddy Holly said "i hope u freeze ur ass off on the bus". Waylon said, " yea, well I hope ur plane crashes; it did and haunted waylon for years....

  • Thanks for the input folks. What a strange twist of fate. Truely, 'the day the music died'

  • Does anybody remember who switched seats on this flight? I''ve forgotten. As I recall Richie Valens took someone's seat on this flight because of a cold. Help an old roock n roller remember . . . . Thanks,

  • @hipasssports I think the Big Bopper got Waylon Jenning's seat because he had the flu. Ritchie Valens and Tommy Allsup flipped a coin for the third seat and Ritchie won the toss.

    GOOGLE is your friend!

  • @Tubee2TOO

According to Waylon in an interview Ricky took the place of Waylon.

  • @Manongjojo You need to research that more! If Waylon said that he would basically be calling Tommy Allsup a liar! See Allsup interview;

  • @Tubee2TOO that part was exactly right.

  • @hipasssports he took tommy allsup seat. they flipped a coin for it

  • @hipasssports tommy allsop this song so sad i used to play the original ep and i still got it happy memories god bless buddy.

  • @hipasssports JERRY LEE LEWIS

  • @hipasssports Hey Ritchie flipped a coin with Tommy Allsup and Waylon Jennings gave his set to the Big Booper because he had a cold

  • @hipasssportsHey Ritchie flipped a coin with Tommy Allsup and Waylon Jennings gave his set to the Big Booper because he had a cold

  • Is it just me or was the reporter too upbeat in presenting this terrible news? Anyway, I reckon Buddy was the greatest loss to music since the advent of rock 'n roll. With all the magical music he'd already created, it's hard to believe he was only 22. How many tunes has his death robbed us of?

I'm a child of the late 70s and as a 10yo I can remember playing a cassette tape of his ballads over and over. He's simply timeless.

  • No thats how they did the news in those days they were not allowed to show alot of emotions in those days

  • Yes i agree. i used to play buddy all the time in my teen years im 32 he was a great part of my musical life, he was just awsome

  • i agree with you on Buddy holly but Ritchie deserves just as much credit for giving birth to spanish rock at only 17 years old

  • And like all great discoveries, it was by accident. Ritchie wanted to record a great song, that just happened to be in Spanish. He did not set out to create Spanish rock from what I read. For that Thank You Ritchie

  • Just the greatest ever! Enough said.

  • we will always have a soft place in our heart for the great memories. the music still lives on forever. rip.

this is the day the music died .these events lead up to the crash.

1957 little richard gives up rock for gospel music.

1958 jerry lee lewis marriage to his 13 yr old cousin, elvis goes into the army, chuck berry goes to jail.

  • 50 years and still loving his music.

    Don M.

  • Never to be fogotten

    buddy holly RIP

    rickhi Valents RIP

    Big bopper Rip

The rock and roll soul live forever!

  • I was in 2nd grade when Buddy Holly died and only 7 yrs old , but I remember getting ready for school that day and hearing it on the radio my mother was crying about it. I remember asking her if I should stay home and help her take care of my little brother. I did not like school back then, but That did not fly and Mom took me out to meet the bus.All the high school kids were talking about it the whole way to school. WOW that was almost 50 years ago, man I'm gettin OLD.

  • dude the newscast made me cry, but they re rockin in the stars now, rip guys, well see you again, rockin in heaven

  • i know the big boppers grandson

  • imagine if all 3 men were still alive today...

  • Music could do with these guys today, sad state of affairs.

  • You can't imagine it... nothing would be the same, maybe he would have gone country, the Beatles never would get a chance, Kennedy might have not gone to Dallas on that exact day.... I would not have been born... who knows.

  • this is a very pointed vid.i've never heard the fats song by buddy.i wonder if we would have had a british invasion if buddy was present?but what if jim morrison was alive.some things are meant to be.

  • in either the late 70's or early 80's, I was in elementary school. I discovered Buddy Holly, thought he was still alive. I also broke a very rare BRUNSWICK EP i borrowed. I can pay it back all these years later but the family moved and divorced. I ALSO HAVE A DIFFERENT NEWS BROADCAST about this also. POST ON HERE THE SONG THAT INCLUDES A CHIRPING CRICKET IN THE RECORDING...

  • Never heard this one before! So sad, but the lord needed Buddy for greater things. I just cant imagine all the music we've missed.

  • They are all with God I know it! ='')

  • Been A Holly Fan All My Life, And Waylon too.. i know they are pickin together, right now, and havin a good tyme.

  • buddy was so talented and ahead of his time, it an absolute tragedy that he died so young.

  • ill see him in heaven :)

  • I've been a Buddy Holly Fan since I was 10yrs old, I am now 28yrs old. I still have his greatest hits cd that my mom got me, back when I was just 10yrs old. I can still remember the first time I became consciously aware of Buddy Holly. It was on the 4th of July. I'm so glad to have discovered Buddy's music, but at the same time I'm extremely sad at the fact that I'll never get to meet him

    :-(.

  • thank you for loading this as this was played at my dad funeral as I couldn't find it anywhere

  • hey thanks for posting this great song.. buddy was a credit to his era and his mucic will out live us all.

  • Why does the news guy sound so happy about it?

  • yah i kno

  • omg..ive never heard this song before, and it made me cry...stunning......specially the ending 8 notes....wow.....where is this song available on cd? thanks for keeping buddys memory alive!

  • Thanks! I suppose you could find it online. Try a Google search with keywords; Buddy Holly, Valley of Tears, cd.

  • i have it on "Buddy Holly: The Ultimate Collection" or something to that extent.

It's currently my favorite song, especially the organ parts.

  • I was a buddy fan for ages b4 hearing this and now its my fav

  • 49 years we've been on our own, but Buddys songs never grow old, I think the world will remember him forever, beautifuly made video, Well done.

  • I agree! Thanks for the compliment and comments.

  • Dit is toch wel een GEWELDIGE song van BUDDY

  • The ending of this song is my favorite.

The ending of Buddy Holly's life is truly devastating.

  • this video is awsome omg i absolutly love it all tho the news cast was a little sad it was very interesting and i love the song valley of tears thanks so much!!!!

  • Thanks! Your comments and rating are very much appreciated!

I had the newscast clip and thought it would be kinda short and lonesome up there all by it`s self so decided to blend in a song. And " Valley of Tears" seemed most fitting.

Always been a Buddy fan too. "Peggy Sue" is the first song I remember hearing on the radio.

  • That was a great combination, Tubee. The newscast alone, besides being short, has nothing to redeem the news, nothing to "let you down gently" from the sad news. The song is so perfect to follow this newsclip. Still can't help crying when I hear it.

  • And the images are wonderful. I love the way the images at the end comes first circle and brings you back to the newscast. All in all, an awesome video.

  • Thanks Jan, Yeah, it always comes back to that God-awful ending and at 17 and 22 years of age. What a shame!
