Certain relatives are forbidden in marriage to you as they are too closely related and could result in genetic disorders etc...this is understood to include mothers or fathers, sisters or brothers, neices or nephews etc....many cultures do marry first cousins though. While this is acceptable for some...many other cultures do not allow such a marriage. In the end though that is based on cultural feelings and not on anything the Quran says. And God knows best
