Chip Carving 100 - What is chip carving?

Hi, can you tell me thickness of the boards you are using? I've been looking at 6mm boards on Ebay but I'm not sure if they are too thin. also what woods would you recommend? Is bass wood the same as balsa wood?

@early1900s 6mm boards are too thin. Basswood is the best wood to begin with. It is not the same as balsa. I supply clear basswood boards, 3/8 x 5 x 12 that are perfect for chip carving. I was watching Swiss Railway journeys on Sky TV this morning and saw a bit on 3D wood carving. I looked online for more information and saw chip carving and instantly knew it was something I wanted to learn also. I just purchased your book from Amazon UK a few minutes ago before coming here to watch some videos until the book arrives! :)
