These dogs look like SHYT and it's a shame that idiots continue to put money in the pockets of these breeders. You know the difference between Michael Vick and these show breeders? Michael Vick dogs didn't have to live a suffer, as opposed to these show breeders. Now these damn dogs have to live with birth defects and trot around some damn ring!
Either you say that God made the everything including the wolf and that means you are a creationist.
Or you say that evolution made everything including the the wolf and then you are an evolutionist.
You cannot use both as an argument at the same time. Evolution is the single biggest argument used to deny the existence of God. Just some food for thought...
The only good thing I noticed is that the majority of the people doing this look old. Meaning they will die soon and perhaps this stuff will die out too, at least the way they're breeding might change.
Not so, the young will take off where there guys leave it.
No snout should be snubbed. My point is that i think a majority of the people that are shocked from this documentary find no problem with hundreds of breeds that don't have the excessive problems this doco might show but are already deformed. You, him, her, us, even sweet old Carol who's doing her best.
Shes trying to polish a turd. She still loves the breed.
0:21 I saw a dog at a pound that looked EXACTLEY like the original Basset. He was a pretty big dog on short legs with the strength of a rottweiler. He was Basset mixed with lab and GSD. Beautiful dog. I think mixing in some breeds would really help them. Because that dog was 6 years old and as health and active as a pup.
Convince breeders?! Screw convincing breeders! Outlaw the breeds as they are today and force them by law to return to them to "working" standards. If they refuse throw them in jail or fine them so much they have to sell their houses.
This is sick. It is diffrent to see dogs for being mutints. The short nose problem is serious. I would rather have an older version of bulldog, basset hound and other breeds, then the modern extreem forms.
@R3PTIL1AN I'm guessing the reason she mentions that is that in some dogs (and humans) the testicles don't always "drop" so the dog might have 1 dropped testicle or even none, in which case they are usually amputated.
Our family's first dog was a Basset that my parents bought in 1967, when I was a baby. She looked just like that old B&W photo of the Basset, and nothing like those things in the show. But even then she had back problems and suffered from two slipped discs in her life, which we repaired through vet's operations and intense nursing. The only reason why she wasn't a show dog was she lacked a large bump on her head, so all those wrinkles and stuff have been added to the rules since the 60's.
The true beauty of purebreds are what they were originally bred for, and the Kennel Club has lost sight of that. Because of them, the dogs are now malformed, dysfunctional, and unhealthy.
Just the other day in the Bronx, I saw a couple who had adopted from a shelter an Olde English Bulldogge (a recreated breed). Smaller than an American Bulldog, but taller with a slightly longer snout than an English Bulldog. I was amazed at how healthy he looked and how he didn't have breathing problems in the unusual heat, even running around like a maniac in the dog run. A much more beautiful bulldog than present standards. I hope dogs like that eventually replace the current mutated breeds.
I've never really thought about this before but genetic invariability is bred in dogs. You hear about scientists who are worried about certain species like Cheetahs who are becoming genetically invariable because of shrinking numbers. This presents a problem because if a disease would come along that killed them since there is less variability there are less Cheetahs who have a genetic make-up that keeps them safe from the disease.
How could they even call Danny a dog? He doesn't look like one! He looks like.. well.. a dustbunny with eyes, or a hairball. He looks, insofar I would call an animal that, ugly. Mutated and abnormal. Simply plain wrong..!
WHY do people think that these animals are attractive?!?!?! Wonderful animals yes because its an animal, but the poor things cant BREATHE for god sake! Animals should be based on WORKING ability, like border collie were in the olden days, where it didnt matter what the dog looked like, but how it could perform its task at hand!
I guess there's nothing wrong with reasonable competitive dog showing, but now shows have become nonsensical and people speak a language that only they can understand...why the hell does a dog have to have 'furnishings'???
@darkuser999 That's part of the problem I have with this video. It appears to villainize purebreds and breeders as a whole, when it's the extreme competitiveness of "prestigious" shows like crufts (to me the crufts is a joke) where breeders can actually get some monetary gain out of their dogs that is the problem. Outside the crazy land of crufts winners, breeders struggle to break even because breeding dogs responsibly is not a lucrative hobby.
Of course not everyone thinks the way I do... People who strive to gain coin (show dog breeders) through the suffering of man's best friend won't think like me.
People who love the way a dog looks regardless of the health problems said look will create won't either.
What is shown here is not up for discussion... Dogs are getting sicker year by year. Cancer and HD are rampant. If you don't care about dogs of course you won't care to see the truth. Those of us who love our dogs think differently
Surely they can see that his snort is tooo short and I bet it's very uncomfortable to even breath for the Bulldog. The origional anatomy for this Classic Bulldog is obviously better all way around for they can move with ease & breath!
I highly agree w/your statement. Thank goodness that the Doctors/Veternians are making it clear a strong point of keeping these dogs & other rare canines in the best of health & do away with this uncaring/senseless breeding of dogs.
"He has 2 testicles......." He'll be glad to know that.

@Jurassiccartoons God didn't make dogs. humans did. "God" aka evolution made the grey wolf that we bred to be dogs.
