They are caused by leaks in some of the billions of barrels oil that are under the ocean off the coast of California. If Calfornia would let people get the oil out of the leaking oil fields they could pay off their state debt and STOP the thousands of barrels of oil from hitting the beach.

Ugh, i can't STAND when people pollute...they throw items that could easily be reused and recycled, into the trash. When I'm at school, if I happen to buy a bottle/can of soda, I keep it with me until I get home, so I can recycle it. Whenever I see a grocery bag, or any other type of litter lying around in public, I put in in a bag to recycle when I get home, simply because I cannot stand the fact that this is the world I must live in...
