  • I've seen copies of this on DVD on a site called ioffer !

  • This is the best version of Rebecca that is out there. My old VHS tape is about worn out. I wish it were on DVD.

  • When I first saw this on tv in 1979 I was captivated. I loved the acting and story but above all the setting of Manderley (filmed at Caerhays castle) and the eerie music of Debussy which gave such a magical and mystical atmosphere. I understand the family of Daphne du Maurier supressed this version but - although I love Hitchcocks version too - I think this one is the most authentic and truest version.

  • Can anybody tell me from when this adaptation is? I only know the 1940s version...

  • 1979 ITV series :)

  • This adaptation is from 1979. My wife loves it! I wish I could find it on DVD or Blu-Ray for her. Can anyone help with my search?

  • Thank you so very, very much for sharing this and the proposal scene. I've recently become a fan of Jeremy Brett and it's wonderful to see bits of his work that is so hard to find.

Would it be a bother to ask for more?

  • If you could please post the rest of this movie I would really like to see how it ends

  • All 4 episodes are available for downloading at the torrent site The Box now! Speed is slow so please be patient.

    Enjoy!

  • @poppylv21 Thanks for the info. I'm a member of The Box, but I've never been able to find On Approval or the 1982 The Barretts of Wimpole Street. Do you (or does anyone) have any links?

  • @kurisutokaochan I bought those two DVD on e-bay from a british seller named "shoequeen". Strange name! But the man is reliable.

  • To all JB fans who are dying to see Rebecca: with some help from a fellow fan I'm going to upload all 4 episodes on the (free) torrent site The Box soon.

  • looking forward

  • It's going to be uploaded there this weekend or next week. If you can't join The Box just pm me and I can send you an invite.

  • So kind of you! Do you know if the website can be accessed in the U.S.? Jeremy has some serious fans across the pond.

  • sure, anyone can become a member and it's free. The site does have a maximum number of members, so sometimes you have to wait a while to join. If so you can always pm me and I\ll send you an invite.

  • I would buy this! Please, BBC, release it. This version's the best ever.

  • The BBC should really release this on DVD asap. There are so many people out there who want to watch this again. Just check IMDB. I read somewhere that there a copyright issues? Well, ususally these are not unsurmountable...

  • I would love it if this were released! I would buy it in a heartbeat.

  • Where can I find this on dvd?

  • Jeremy Brett's acting is pure poetry and he holds you spellbound no matter what the scene or how tiny the clip. Too bad it is so hard to find DVD's of everything he did.

  • I know it's a long shot, but do you have any clips of Mrs Danvers in this version? I love Anna Massey, and would really like to see how she tackled Mrs Danvers. Thank you!

  • How interesting that Anna Massey was in this! I wonder how they got on together, given that he (according to her) ended their marriage because he'd fallen in love with a man?

  • potatofiend....

We have read they were not getting along swimmingly, because dear Jeremy bought David (his son) a motorcycle and Anna didn't like it.

    ^_^

  • GayGeisha, have been offline, sorry for the late reply.

I shall PM you now re Rebecca. ^_^

  • Isn't this the same lady who played Lizzie's aunt in the BBC version of Pride and Predjudice? (1995)

  • Good question, chanson22.

Haven't seen it, but am sure there is someone out there who has. ^_^

  • Yes, Joanna David, the same lady, only quite older then. If this is never released on DVD, life is unjust and the BBC is to blame!

  • Thanks so much!

  • worldtheatre...so far life is unjust and we do blame the BBC. Thank you for your comment. ^_^

  • It will be perfect if BBC relesase this Rebecca on DVD and also On Approval (Brett and Penelope Keith are fantastic in that)!

  • pleasepleaseplease message me too!! it's just wonderful!

  • Sorry we have been so long, but are messaging you know, Funnyvalentine83.

We are very happy you enjoyed it! ^_^

  • You are welcome!! :)

I have messaged you re the dvd. ^_^

  • Mmmm... And, sorry, where to find this dvd

    ?=)))))

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I have been a huge Jeremy Brett fan since I saw him in this when I was a teenager and have been searching for this series to buy on dvd for years with no success :-( One day I hope it might be available. I can't tell you how often I have watched my Sherlock Holmes boxed set lol.

  • Thank you for the lovely comment. ^_^

I have messaged you re the dvd. :)

  • Did anybody found a torrent for this? I really want to have this film, I have Olivier's version, but I loved the proposal scene.

  • I messaged you re where to find it. :)

  • can someone please let me know where i can get a copy of this. This is one of my favorite books, and although I have never seen this version in its entirety it does seem like a good adaptaion. If anyone has a copy I can duplicate i will be willing to pay for it. Thanks

  • messaged you.. ^_^

  • Ah!AHHHHHAAAH! I want this movie! I NEED this movie! I've got to have this! Somebody help me! Help meeeeeeee! I NEEEEEEEED Jeremy!!!! AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHghghghghghg.........

  • messaged some time ago... ^_^

  • Thank you so much for posting this clips.I can remember watching this when it first appeared on Masterpiece Theatre so long ago. I've searched and searched for it. Even my son is interested since he is a huge fan of Jeremy Brett because of Sherlock Holmes. Does anyone have any idea where to find this gem?

  • I just messaged you with some info. Hope it helps. :) Well, as you guessed, Jeremy is the ultimate to us. Happy you enjoyed the clip.

Jeremy's Sherlock rules! :) Thanks again...

  • Great Version!!!!I like it but .. No matter that I LOVE Laurence Olivier in this role,I like Jeremy Brett coz He's more realistic and He really looks like a murderer of his wife^^)

  • Happy you enjoyed it! :) I have seen both as well, but I adore Jeremy in this for several reasons. Of course, I simply adore Jeremy ..LOL :)

  • Sorry for the late reply. Thank you very much for the oh so true comment. Happy to hear you have a VHS copy and may I ask, is it a good copy? Can you duplicate it? All of us here would be interested in getting our hands on a really good copy of Rebecca. Please message me if we can possibly help each other out. *wink* :)

  • I was lucky enough to obtain a vhs copy of this from the BBC about 12 years ago. Unfortunately, they said that due to copyright technicalities, it couldn't be released generally. This in my opinion is the definitive adaptation and it seems such a pity it's still ot available in its entirety for all. Hopefully the petition will change this soon. Fingers crossed! :o)

  • Oh, such a beautiful story- Jeremy and Joanna David were perfect for these parts- the best of all the versions I'm sure. Frank in this version could've had more depth- and Mrs. D could have been creepier- but the leading roles were right on the mark, in my opinion! Thanks, JBsgirl! :)

  • I concur with your assertions completely. :)

Thank you, bakerstreetbookworm, for you enlightening and lovely comment, because as we all know, 'Jeremy rules'! :)

  • This actress is terrible for that role, so inexpressive!

I am a great fan of Mr. Brett, but never will be a better Maxim than Laurence Olivier.

Very fine work, too when I see a mistake with his partner, pity!!

  • I believe Jeremy to be the best and closer to the original story. Did you see Rebecca clip 1? I appreciate your comment just the same. I am happy to hear you are a fan of Jeremy's. :) It will be his birthday tomorrow.

    Take care, sweetie. :)

  • I took a look to the another clip too but the general mind about this version keep the same. Sure it can be more faithful to the story, but the whole film results less reached than 1939's one. I think J.B. make a very fine perfomance, but the rest is not only depending on an actor. Bravo for Jeremy, the rest...

  • Lols, the tash- bless him, he's so gorgeous (even with the facial hair) and such a wonderful actor... I'd look into his eyes and tell him that I loved him no matter how many people he'd murdered :-P I'm so sad that he's gone and that (being a small child when he died) I didn't get to appreciate him when he was alive :-(

  • We believe we were lucky to have had him at all. Such a wonderful man and such a talent as well! I believe most of us are in the same boat as you are, my dear, but at least we all appreciate him and show it now. Yes, he was gorgeous no matter what, wasn't he?! Love him to bits! :)

  • Ok just WHAT IS IT!!? with this girl! She's to blasted causeous. Even in the book she's way to unsure of herself. It's driving me nuts! Great job!

  • LOL Yes, does make one wonder, doesn't it?! Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. We love JB and love him in Rebecca, or anything else for that matter! :)

  • Please please can you tell me if this is on DVD at all? I've tried amazon but they don't have it!

  • I have written you a private message with info. Jeremy really is stunning in it, as always. :)

  • Thank you and yes he is and will always be.

  • Hi, I dearly love Jeremy B and I have all the Sherlock Holmes episodes on DVD. Has this version of "Rebecca" ever been released on DVD? Please let me know; thanks much!

  • I know exactly what you mean! Really, it's nowhere at all! I love Jeremy to bits, and I can't watch this film anywhere! :(

  • *weeps* SO WONDERFUL!!!

  • Yes, wasn't he though?! Thank you and I believe your name should be sweet and caring.:)

  • Jermey was a great actor underated. I was a big fan of his to. I wrote a review for the book "Bending The Willows" this was about Jermey. If you get a chance find a copy it very good.

  • We must agree with you, tomatotv321. He was under underrated and Bending the Willow is a very good book. Lovely to see another JB lover here! Welcome and thank you. :)

  • Nothing doing, anyhow, I love you, Maxim! :)

    Thank you J.

  • You are most welcome, dear HP! Thank you! :)

  • Darling J. this is absolutely fabulous, many many thanks. Can any man be hotter and more seductive than our Jeremy? I would have forgiven this Max de Winter anything he confessed.

  • Ah, Darling D., how sweet of you! You are welcome! No, there isn't anyone hotter or more seductive than our Jeremy! Good heavens, I could still tell him that I loved him no matter what! He could confess his sins to us anytime, right dear D? LOL :)

  • well thanks for talking to me anyway and yes its very hard not to wantmore jeremy :p

  • LOL. I believe you have joined the ranks of the 'addicted'! Such is the condition that most of us have here. We are always happy to hear from other JB lovers, always! :)

  • Oh girls! I love him!

  • Yes, we do as well, dear AnnaF! Isn't he just the living end?! Simply the 'best'!! Thanks! :)

  • JBrettgirl do you think you could put the whole film on ive never seen rebecca before and im dying to see if you cant its alright i would do it but i dont how to make video's and the fact i dont have technology to do it oh forgot to say it last time wounderful video :p

  • There are size and time limits, but we will probably post some more, sherholmfan! As much as we all adore Jeremy, hard not to want more, isn't it?! :)

  • My he does look nice with that moustache! You know, I've never seen this movie before, it looks really good! Thanks so much for sharing this!

  • You're welcome! It is very good, well isn't anything with JB in it?! ^_^

  • But of course! Perhaps I should've said the 'storyline' looks intriguing as well! rlol Yes, he does rather make everything about him look marvelous.....ahhhhh.........:)

  • you no i was only 5 wen jb passed away i never really knew him i was to young i only fonnd out about him when i was 14 and im 16 now and he's the only actor really that can make me laugh and cry

  • Such a lovely comment! Thank you, we feel the very same way. He was such a wonderful man, actor and all around fantastic human being. We miss him sooo much! :)
