I'm only 21, I've been playing basketball for almost all my life, I don't remember a time I wore high tops to a game, and I've sprained my ankle only ONCE in the time within. Just head to the gym and work on the leg workouts (mostly quads and calves), that way those two muscle groups would be better conditioned, hence, better mobility, therefore eliminating the habit of "dragging" your feet close to the ground, a recipe for a sprained ankle.
