I have the a huge amount of respect for both these cars, I have always loved cobras, but why in they hell do people say its just a neon, your right just like a evo is a lancer, a wrx an impreza, a gti a jetta. The SRT4 is no different it comes from a cheaper base just like all the others.
Srt-4's are faster mod for mod than a 96-98 cobra. I should know I own an Srt-4 and it's faster than my wife's 06 that runs low 12's with a 125 shot on street tires. My wife's car can be seen in my videos running 12.29@114.3 and my srt will out run it all day long.
@MrSilent937 a pushrod 302 would not smoke the 96-98 cobra. The 302 made 225hp. The lil fox body mustangs were high 14sec cars in stock form with minor mods they're low 14sec cars at best... depending on your definition of "minor"

SRT 4's are fast, but at the end of the day their still just an over rated Neon. Their just a fad... Mustangs have been doing it since 1964 and still going strong. In the future Mustangs will still be around, but people will be asking what a Neon was. Like I said, just a fad.
Are you kidding me? Look at ebay right now. There are TONS of Cobras that can be had for great prices. Sure, some might keep there value, but they are as dime a dozen as an SRT-4. Also, that argument "if you put a turbo on the Cobra..." Well, duh!! If you put a turbo on a Geo Metro it can be made faster. Fact is, these SRT-4's were well designed by Dodge. Period.

C&L performance is located in huntsville alabama where im from. which if you knew anything about performance C&L makes the best know cold air kits out there. they have a dyno. ive seen srt4's on the dyno as well as cobra's and anything you can imagine. ive seen the 2.4L turbo charged srts 2003-2005 rated at 230hp on the dyno go anywhere from 195hp to 215 hp. and a cobra rated at 305hp go 245-265hp both run high 13's stock.
the srt4 can hardly even be compared to a neon. The only thing left on the car resembling the original neon is the body style which is still altered a lot. Its like saying a v6 mustang is the same as a shelby gt500. Theyre both completely different. Quit hatin so much

@ii2reaper The GT500 does not match up with the Camaro SS, that GT500 is a supercharged V8, the Camaro is a N/A V8, no comparison. The GT500 would be able to compete with a base Vette.
Ok if all your buddys can get out of they're srt-4's with bolt-ons is 14.1 then they can't drive for shit. With an agp cai,bleed off valve,spring mod and the exhaust dumped my srt-4 went 13.51@104.7 on the stock tires. Mine now traps 113+. Late 90's cobras are ok but nothing compared to the 03-04's. There used to be a 97 with bolt-ons and on slicks his best pass was a 13.30@102 and he'd get pissed when I hosed him in my srt on the street.

@bkellum89 The SS can/does run 12.9s. The new 5.0 GTs are running 12.6 stock with experienced drivers, and the SRT-8 is a low 13 second car. That said I own an SRT-4, and it just makes me laugh how much automotive ignorance is floating around out there about it.

don't forget a forged rotating assembly that can handle 500hp stock with half the displacement. Your motor is only as strong as your rotating assembly. Or just fully build your 5.0 from the bottom up if you have the now how but remeber to relize it was a mid 15 second car to begin with.

@96stangsvt doubt whatever you want. I have the timeslips to prove it, a guy i know runs a 14.5 at 97mph in his srt with a short throw, injen intake, boost controller and an ECU retune. I run a 14.3 at 99mph. Last i checked 14.3 was faster then a 14.5.... and yes that's just one modded srt4, the fastest one i've seen runs 14.1's with BFG drag radials. my 14.3 is on a stock skinny ass 225/60. so how about you STFU when you don't know what you're talking about.

you also have to look at the setup of each of these cars. since 96 there has been a lot of advancements in getting maximum power from a smaller engine. plus the srt4 is a turbo charged setup. that is pushing a lot of power for a car that probably weighs about 800 or so pounds less
Yeah you can put same mod on corvette but you spend more money on a corvette than a civic. it all comes down to money. you can spend 70 grand on a civic which will smoke a corvette or you can spend 140 grand on a corvette. so no point in losing all that money when u can save and make a faster car.

i am the guy in the cobra that got beat as sad it is to say but he was faster. that happened about 3 years ago maybe less. we raced 2-3 times and he got me every time. but he was cool and not "ricey". it was fun... even though i lost! oh well, can't win them all!

the srt probably wasn't stock...there is no way an srt 4 is walkin a 96 cobra unless it's not stock or the mustang guy can't drive. i'm not goin to speak for anyone elses car...but a stock srt4 wouldn't have outran the 97 cobra I used to have...and I wish it was still around so I could fuckin prove it. unfortunately it's totaled. these cobras are quicker than you think when driven right. a 300 dollar gear swap to 4.10s or 4.30s and the neon is gonna be sniffin exhaust through it's grill
let me shut all yall up. God damn I had a 97 cobra for 4 years and I STILL HAVE THE FUCKING MANUAL. it has 305 flywheel hp...that's about 260 or so to the wheels, sometimes, more, not 240. I've never seen one dyno 240 unless there's something wrong with it. you lost about 15% through the drivetrain on a manual rear wheel drive...do the math. the coupe cobra weighed 3415 lbs...not 3800. and the manual also said it runs 13.9 stock...as did motor trend and a few mags...there's facts for ya

C&L performance is located in huntsville alabama where im from. which if you knew anything about performance C&L makes the best know cold air kits out there. they have a dyno. ive seen srt4's on the dyno as well as cobra's and anything you can imagine. ive seen the 2.4L turbo charged srts 2003-2005 rated at 230hp on the dyno go anywhere from 195hp to 215 hp. and a cobra rated at 305hp go 245-265hp both run high 13's stock.

Ok if all your buddys can get out of they're srt-4's with bolt-ons is 14.1 then they can't drive for shit. With an agp cai,bleed off valve,spring mod and the exhaust dumped my srt-4 went 13.51@104.7 on the stock tires. Mine now traps 113+. Late 90's cobras are ok but nothing compared to the 03-04's. There used to be a 97 with bolt-ons and on slicks his best pass was a 13.30@102 and he'd get pissed when I hosed him in my srt on the street.

don't forget a forged rotating assembly that can handle 500hp stock with half the displacement. Your motor is only as strong as your rotating assembly. I run a 14.3 at 99mph. Last i checked 14.3 was faster then a 14.5.... and yes that's just one modded srt4, the fastest one i've seen runs 14.1's with BFG drag radials. my 14.3 is on a stock skinny ass 225/60. so how about you STFU when you don't know what you're talking about.

you also have to look at the setup of each of these cars. since 96 there has been a lot of advancements in getting maximum power from a smaller engine. plus the srt4 is a turbo charged setup. that is pushing a lot of power for a car that probably weighs about 800 or so pounds less

Yeah you can put same mod on corvette but you spend more money on a corvette than a civic. it all comes down to money. you can spend 70 grand on a civic which will smoke a corvette or you can spend 140 grand on a corvette. so no point in losing all that money when u can save and make a faster car.

Actually the SRT-4 doesn't look all that bad if the right owner keeps the crazy wings off of it, and gives it a nice low aggressive (road racing) stance.... and they are quick little bastards for real!!!

i am the guy in the cobra that got beat as sad it is to say but he was faster. that happened about 3 years ago maybe less. we raced 2-3 times and he got me every time. but he was cool and not "ricey". it was fun... even though i lost! oh well, can't win them all!

@markeeballs dont mean to bang on you bro but. if the SRT4 is a 2004-2005 or so it should be right at 230hp tops. if its stock a stock 1996 cobra makes 305hp both is a give or take on a dyno. dont see how the SRT4 would win stock for stock. ive raced a few and won by links. guess it depends on the add on's and driver.

Im in to exotics and my boyfriend is into imports and he trys to rub it in my face all the time that imports are better. Hes a little srt4 geek cuz he has one and he swears that car is the best. Wow why does everyone not believer a civic can beat a corvette?? First of all to do this it must be modified big time. Second I have seen a video here in the tube where a civic beats a lambo. Yes its alot to do it but it can be done. Put in the work and any car can compete, its rare though. NO im not a civic guy either, I own a 98 mustang gt.

So yes it's possible for a civic to beat a corvette but no matter what mod you do to a civic if you do the same mod to a corvette it will make more power because theres no replacement for displacement and a civic is just going to spin tires because its fwd.

you cant tell if it is a 5.0 or 4.6.. the rear tail lights are blacked out. and the hood is an aftermarket ram air.. but it probably is a 5.0 if its getting beat by a stage2

No but the SN95's all look the same. And you do not see enough in this vid to make a decision. And for one I do not trust a guy driving a SRT4 to make the difference for me. It could have been a 95. It could also have been a stocker that was beat by a modded car.. In the end the guy with the most shit done wins.

the srt probably wasn't stock...there is no way an srt 4 is walkin a 96 cobra unless it's not stock or the mustang guy can't drive. i'm not goin to speak for anyone elses car...but a stock srt4 wouldn't have outran the 97 cobra I used to have...and I wish it was still around so I could fuckin prove it. unfortunately it's totaled. these cobras are quicker than you think when driven right. a 300 dollar gear swap to 4.10s or 4.30s and the neon is gonna be sniffin exhaust through it's grill

let me shut all yall up. God damn I had a 97 cobra for 4 years and I STILL HAVE THE FUCKING MANUAL. it has 305 flywheel hp...that's about 260 or so to the wheels, sometimes, more, not 240. I've never seen one dyno 240 unless there's something wrong with it. you lost about 15% through the drivetrain on a manual rear wheel drive...do the math. the coupe cobra weighed 3415 lbs...not 3800. and the manual also said it runs 13.9 stock...as did motor trend and a few mags...there's facts for ya
