I'm from New York, and have lived in SF for 39 years. I'm IN New York currently, on a 4 month visit. I'm eating NY bagels every day here (of course, right?). Since 1972, I've chosen House Of Bagels on Geary as the best, most accurate bagel in SF. Now that I am actually here in NY, eating bagels, I can say without doubt, that House Of Bagels on Geary is the best bagel in SF. All others I've tried in SF fail the test. And yes, a bagel must be eaten shortly after baking. It's just how it is.

@SuperKcronin Thanks, Katie! Glad you liked it. The Bagel Bakery on Townsend is definitely worth the trip. Just call 'em first, make sure they're open. Or, if you live near Burlingame, you can't go wrong with House of Bagels down there.
