Aw, this reminds me of my boyfriend! We're high school sweethearts and have been in a long distance relationship for 5 years. Kinda want this to be our wedding dance, but I'm afraid I'll be blubbering the whole time! ;P
you know when your little you think things one way just to find out how really naive you really were. i thought every animated movie was from disney. i now know i was totally wrong.
This song kinda makes me teary eyed cause it reminds me of my grandpa who passed away in 1989.This was the song that was playing as I left the hospital. It was his way of telling me he was going to Heaven that night.I miss him alot.
I agree that usually the pop versions at the end of the film aren't as good as the in-film versions, but I make an exception in this case. I love this version. Both singers are good, but I just love Linda Ronstadt's voice. Here's a funny thing, though. I loved this song as a kid, but many years later, when I was studying music theory in college, I noticed that James Horner *might* have unconsciously borrowed from Beethoven's Pathetique piano sonata.
In 1987 4th July i met my real dad i was 15 i lived in the west midlands he lived in yorkshire this song will always remind me of him and that day he passed away the 5th july 2003 but i still think of him when i hear this i'm always grateful that he met his grandson who is now 19 x
I have this on tape and I put it in for my 7 year old cousin. She saw it was on tape and she didn't want anything to do with it. I played it anyway, and ten minutes later she was sitting there hypnotized by it, lol. I love Fievel. I've been slowly collecting DVDs to replace tapes from when I was a kid and the Fievel movies are next!
@RodStewartfan1 both have their own feeling to them the movie version was ment as an agnst song the two of them missing eachother and not being togeather, the ending song is ment to signify the comeing togeather of them in time, but a bit more upbeat cause they will be togeather someday, if you think of it rite the movie version and this version are one in the same just a bit different feeling
I used to sing along to this on tape, and to the video on TV, when I was very little. I like this version a lot, but admittedly it doesn't quite capture the longing for family and the smallness of the little mice in a big, big world that the version from the actual film does.
@BeyondBirthday18 definitely! It's a good song but I always think this and the versions like it of other in-film songs (like at the end of Beauty and the Beast) are too over the top, it's much more moving sung by the characters in the context of the film.
Well Said Indyfilms. I've watched this move over and over again. Even thou I'm an adut male. It still make me cry. All the other American Tail movies. Doesn't really compare to this...Steven Speilberg did a really great job. You know there are Two movies that we're Great. Star Wars saga and American Tail.
Well The Black Cauldron i enjoyed for being an adult animated fantasy epic in the vein of Heavy Metal, Princess Mononoke and Fire and Ice. Oliver and Company and Great Mouse Detective were fun movies were they? I remembered when i saw then both 3 times in theaters in their original releases and having their merchandise, i wanted them on video as i would ask if they would come to video and no suck luck but had my stuff to remember them.
Saw this movie 3 times in theaters when i was a kid and had some merchandise as well including Mcdonalds books from the happy meals. I even had this movie for my 6th birthday. This was one of my childhood favorite animated movies with Warriors of the Wind (the 1985 mutilated New World Pictures dub of Nausicaa) which was my favorite animated movie as a kid then this was second, third Pinocchio, fourth Dumbo, fifth Starchaser and many more.
I feel retro! i saw Fox and The Hound in it's 88 re-issue 3 times when i was 6/7, i saw Great Mouse Detective 3 times when i was 5 in theaters, Oliver and Company 3 times when i was 7 in theaters, American Tail 3 times at age 5, Little Mermaid and All Dogs 2 times when i was 8 in theaters and Black Cauldron 1 time when i was 4 years old. I'm an 80's/early 90's kid
Olivia from The Great Mouse Detective and Fievel from An American Tail would have made a cute couple, after all, both movies came out in the same year
yup, there is a picture on Deviantart showing Fievel giving Olivia a rose, and plus, Don Bluth used to work for Disney, so it would be an interesting cross-over
I was an American Tail Geek when I was a little girl. I remember watching that movie and singing that song every time I went to my grandmothers house. Thank You so much for putting this song on YouTube to bring back memories.
Favourite song as a kid, I'm surprised I can still remember the words.

I prefer the end title version of Somewhere Out there than the in film version. No offense to those that like the Fievel and Tanya version more.

This song it so good, and it still brings a bit of a tear to my eye. I watched An American Tail so many times when I was younger.
No offense to those who like this version, but I like the movie version better, with Fievel and Tanya singing it.

Eu choro quando ouço essa música....me lembra minha infância, me lembra pessoas que não estão mais comigo, onde a vida nos separou.
São lembranças, impossível não me emocionar, sem contar que a música é muito linda.
