  • Hi Mate. I find a lot of curiosity and people saying "my Grandpa smoked a pipe!" I used to find the curiosity off putting but now I show them the pipe and let them smell the tobacco. I have introduced 2 work colleagues to the briar. I am not sure that they really got carried away, but they have a puff. I was drawn to this video by your hard hat. I work in Coal Mining as a Crane op/Rigger. I am interested to know what you do, Cobber......Carl

  • I was at the flea mkt yesterday got 5 pipes for $20 I am going back today with more money and buying the rest. He had 3 with sterling silver bands with silversmith markings they appeared to be old and for some reason he former owner liked to keep a lot of cake in the bowl. I will buy them all then do a video. My hope is to referbish them and I shall decide if I wish to go on to smoke them IDK I am soon to be 44 and have no vices had to quit alcohol due to medication gotta die of something?

  • "So I always promote it..." Awesome!

  • Keep up the good work. I'm trying to get some friends I work with into pipe smoking. If you can do it, so can I.

  • I just started pipe smoking around Christmas. Youtube pretty much taught me how to do it properly.

  • thanks for the vid! agree; have to have a working pipe. i tend to throw around corn cobs as I'll not shed a tear if they snap or get left behind.

    Keep promoting the pipe!

  • Keep recruiting pipe smokers bro! It is a lost art that should make a comeback!

  • i find it that black cordial has an awful after taste

  • I'm the same way - I keep some pipes I'm not so fond of, and I've got lots of tobacco to share. I'm a social smoker, so the more the merrier!

    -Tom

  • nice videos,what do you do?job wise?

  • I intend to smoke a pipe on my cabin porch when I'm an old lady. I already have two pipes--- I just want to have something to look forward to.

  • You are one cool man!

  • I recruited my best friend who was a non-smoker. Gave him 2 new pipes, leather pipe pouch, pipe tool, tobbaco in an airtight glass container, pipe cleaners, the works. I'll buy a friend their first pipe and tobacco if they ever decide they like mine. I use corncobs because their draw is just fantastic. The Country Gentleman is an excellent pipe!

  • Hello! I'm not a cigarette smoker, and I generally frown on smoking -just- for that niccotine hit,

However I will on occasion enjoy a nice Cigar, with a cold bottle of coke - the flavors just seem to go well together. Glass bottles only, of course.

I was wondering - what're the merits of smoking pipes over Cigars?

Flavor, aroma, etc... What kind of differences would one expect?

And how much would it cost for a decent quality pipe?

  • Well I am a fellow pipe smoker so have subscribed to your channel, Perhaps you will sub me too ?

    Happy puffing.

    Alan.

  • @538921 Thanks for subscribing and I did sub you back. Happy puffing to you as well friend.

  • hahaha I if I worked with you, I would totally bust out my pipes!

  • @venturer382 That would make the days a whole lot nicer having another pipe smoker to hang out with...

  • @BJExtraLong Well, it would take someone who has been there to know it. I am an MWD for Big Red and that is a slide going on. I have actually been in LWD school in Houston the past six weeks. I usually try to cover the company logo with tape when I record since I work for one of the most hated companies in the world...but they have been good to me for a long time. Hahahaha! Thanks for watching.

  • Black cordial! I havent smoked that in years! such a unique blend, I haven't had anything like it since. Thanks for reminding me of that.

    Ben

  • @benneisam One of my go-to blends!

  • Seems not so long ago that pipe-smoking was considered a fading art...but I notice that the video community seems to be turning that around. Congrats on being a mentor...much needed in a culture that's been convinced smoking of ANY kind is pure EVIL! Keep up the good work!

  • @TheGentlemanScholar Thanks a lot. There is a lot of good that can come from smoking a pipe...

  • i got my best friend smoking pipes haha ;D

  • @rangu66 Nice! Keep it up.

  • Love the Grabows. A lot of folks seem to think pipe smoking is for old people. In the last couple years I have seen kind of a revolution happening in the pipe world, and it's people like you that are making the numbers grow. Hellz yeah man!

  • @TheBaccyButcher We are making a comeback, although I don't think it will ever reach the level it peaked at many years ago...too much anti-smoking stuff now days.

  • I'm starting to like pipes there better than cigars don't have to worry about the ash falling off all the time I'm gonna get into a pipe

  • @fish67y There are pros and cons to each...but I definitely recommend trying out a pipe.

  • Nice Dr. Grabow...I love those pipes!

  • @pipeguy1958 They are cheap enough and durable enough that they make great "work" pipes.

  • Keep fighting the good fight and recruiting those numbers! So far, I have two people this year. One is a fellow YouTube pipe presenter (evomasher), who happens to be my younger brother. Another is a good friend of mine who we used to smoke cigars together......but I convinced him that we should switch to pipes.

Great video, and keep them topics coming! - Jeff

  • @StogieFarts Thanks, Jeff. Good man pulling some more to the dark side, hahahaha. I'll check out your brother's channel.

    Have a good one,

    Jim

  • @mleyh67 I get mixed results also, but a little interest is better than no interest. Thanks for watching.

  • Great place for a pipe

  • @PipeFriendCHS Any place is a great place for a pipe as long as you in the right frame of mind...hahaha.

  • Always happy to increase the herd. I'm always happy to talk about pipes, like your proactive approach.

  • @BurghBelly Sometimes people just don't think about getting involved in something. If they show some interest I am more than happy to throw as much info at them as possible.

  • I have a monthly get together with some friends. We might have some nice scotch or head to the local pub (nice one too; stocks a great range of award winning craft beers) and then shoot the shit for the evening. I got 3 of those guys into pipe smoking (although a couple of them prob only smoke when we all get together). There's nothing better than good friends, good drinks, good pipes.

  • @TheoGeekNZ That sounds great! It actually reminds me of our pipe club in Michigan. "Good friends, good drinks, good pipes", you nailed that one!

    Thanks for watching,

    Jim

  • I know that people will have a negative thing or two to say about getting people to smoke. I do not feel that way. It is a wonderful pass time and a relaxing way to spend some time. But if we stay with that thinking we can't offer people: a cold beer, a steak, a cup of coffee, a danish, a diet cola, a cocktail ... well you get the point. So yes I offer to help others with the hobby, usually a young guy who is interested or a cig smoker. Keep up the good work. Liked the video.

    ~Tom

  • @MyMonkVlog I completely agree, Tom! There are a lot of "bad" habits with potential consequences out there. If it is somthing someone can enjoy without hurting others then I say go for it. Thanks for making a great point!

    Jim

  • @OldNorthernSmoky I was waiting for that comment...

    Thanks for watching,

    Jim

  • Everyone I work with thinks I'm an idiot for dropping so much cash on pipes and tobacco. Also, there is a company policy where 'tobacco users' get a $20 surcharge per paycheck (every2weeks). That REALLY makes it a hard sell.

  • @PipingAintEasy I an sure that most if not all of them drop cash on something that someone else would consider not worth the money. If it works for you and you enjoy it then that is all that really matters.

I hear us on the company surcharge for tobacco users, I also have to pay extra for my insurance benefits in my company for being a smoker.

    Thanks for watching,

    Jim

  • Your doing a good job! keep up the good work!

  • @jerryspipe Thanks! I'm really not good at selling things, but there is an allure pipe smoking that helps suck them in...hahaha.

  • You should buy a box of cobs off ebay and have them on ya to hand out to new guys.

Wow 6 people. You're the king of spreading the pipe smoking hobby! hahaha

    All the best,

    Jay

  • @dighsx That's a great idea! Especially for the interest I have had so far.

I don't know about being the king, but we need to keep this great "hobby" going. And the more people we have the stronger it is.

    Jim
