  • No Akira?

  • 1:27 Megaman NT Warrior

  • CAN SOMEONE find the movies VIRTUAL OBSSESSION(HOST)-1998 and DREAM HOUSE 1998 and upload them for me, or find a "working" link I can watch them on?

  • I have a Cyberpunk Thriller I created, Called Fatal Mind. It's about a program that makes Killers victims to their own murders. Go to my page and select, Fatal Mind Pilot. Please enjoy!

  • Has Anyone ever tried to make a mix of Cyberpunk & Steampunk?

  • @Nightshift10000 That would be difficult. The technology would have to be either Cyberpunk-based or Steampunk-based.

  • @kryptomanik not necessarily. What if the rich low lifes were the cyberpunk, and the poor low lifes were steampunk?

  • Cyber Punk can be define thusly --------

    1. Listens to Hardstyle or Hardcore.

    2. Would thrive in a modern post apocalyptic world.

    3. Elite technical skill.

    4. Doesn't give a fuck.

    5. Militaristic/strategic mind

  • I really like this video. Growing up a cyberpunk fan meant (for me at least) finding elements of films that "felt" cyberpunk. Otherwise I would have had very few awesome movies to watch. I remember a friend of mine laughingly telling me that the movie "Sneakers" was not cyberpunk. I told him it was a good thing I didn't feel that way cuz it's one of my favorite cyberpunk movies ever.

  • Omg Clockwork Orange and Bladerunner are THE BEST

  • Ok i have to say, all the movies in this video looks pretty cool. (i just saw Orange clockwork).

  • im a 50 tarabite self evloving nural network double backfilp off of the high platform TRY SAYING THAT FIVE TIMES FAST

  • coping and pasting from Wikipedia I see....

  • @TheSethperson69 Oh! You have found me out! I took the definition of a term/genre from a site that exists to provide such things! I'M MEEELLLLTTTTINNGNGGG!!!!!!

  • @DaniusKang epic answer

  • @DaniusKang I love you already!

  • @DaniusKang A citation would have been nice. But plagiarism is good, too.

  • Should've never gave that crack pot Alex Jones a part in a scanner darkly.

  • @DaniusKang I found it a great movie regardless of the mild stint though. I admit though, I found the movie slightly hard to follow.

That brings up a point though. Would it still be cyberpunk if it has elements of the Illuminate in it? It would that be closer to horror?

In one of my own stories, usually if your not a punk of some sort, your probably military, even cloned cyborg pigmen.

  • Not a bad depiction. Some other fims that have noteworthy CP elemenets are Brainstorm, The Matrix, Judge Dread, Equilibrium, and Surrogates to name a few.

  • thats not cyberppunk music there is no such thing s cyber punk music its just a mans prediction of a america way fom now when are greatgrandchildren dont know right from wrong internally externally an citywide thats cyber punk something epic not silly musuc liek this wtf have u herd of chiptune wy better?

  • @TheShaolinScholar what? what? do you not understand that this has nothing to do with music? It is about the movies and books related to cyberpunk, as well as the themes that are common that make cyberpunk a unique genre. also....................you sir, are no scholar.

  • @KalEbud look at this moffadyte with his picture on youtube you are a faggot get lost that music is gay an not cyberpunk a unique genre take a hike u retard

  • @TheShaolinScholar your a wilson....

  • How is A Clockwork Orange cyberpunk?

  • @Person009 See all that text up there, that contain my comments about this very issue? The ones you had to scroll down past to type your comment? There you will find your answer.

  • @DaniusKang Thats weird. I had pressed cancel on my comment because I saw the text you're referring too. Apparently my comment still went through though...

  • @Person009 No worries, it happens.

  • what about the max headroom tv show from the '80's?

  • Well done.

  • Very good but the names of each of the films would be nice..

  • @RickeyRamone Read the vid description.

  • Thumbs up if You support Humanities future being a Cyberpunk future.

  • gits gits gits gits recognise.

  • If any film defines cyberpunk it has to be the anime "Ghost In The Shell". But "Bladerunner" is the next best thing.

  • The anime Akira anyone?

  • Please tell me why you did not include the Matrix in this video? Matrix is one of the best representations of cyberpunk. :(

  • @NickManor It felt like cheating.

  • @DaniusKang Why is A Clockwork Orange considered Cyberpunk and yes I have seen it.

  • @SirFakeName Well, I suppose someone hasn't bothered me about this in a while. A Clockwork Orange, in the strictest sense, is not Cyberpunk. It does, however, contain many of the elements of Cyberpunk, and this video is about these elements. It is not meant to showcase Cyberpunk films.

  • @DaniusKang Oh, ok. Thanks for letting me know.

  • anime has the best cyberpunk imo

  • Could the 1927 film "Metropolis" be considered cyberpunk

  • @Alevamltd While in terms of style of tech it would be more steampunk, it is certainly Cyberpunk in theme, with a little Asimov thrown in. (oppression of lower class, what is life, etc.)

  • no love for robocop?

  • @bantam700 Yeah, it is a pretty good fit, but I didn't have access to it at the time of making the movie. Probably could have used it instead of "Virtuosity" at certain points.

  • johnny mnemonic was definitely the forerunner of the Matrix Trilogy

woa Dude, was that alex jones on 4:08??

  • @the7ronin Indeed it was, from "A Scanner Darkly". Awesome movie.

  • johnny mnemonic was definitely the forerunner of the Matrix Trilogy

  • the music is very fitting to the vid and cyberpunk as well..

I've always thought it would be cool to live in a technological distopian society oppressed by the governing megacorporations.......but only if you're a console cowboy

  • Perfect Example of Cyberpunk my great grandchildren in the year 2150

  • terrible. this video sucked reeeally badd. seriously all u did was put two "straight out of a book" defintions and show clips from a couple cyberpunk movies in a totally random order. all this video did was scratch the surface of wut cyberpunk really is. its so bad it makes me wanna make my own video lol.

  • @DropDeadProjekt Yeah, you making a video. That is lol worthy.

  • @DaniusKang

I mean it could use a little work but it's not bad

  • Thanks dude, i needed a cyberpunk fix. Thinking about going down to barnes and noble and load up. Anyone know what i should get? thanks a bunch.

  • @grendelee Snow Crash, Neuromancer, Burning Chrome, A Scanner Darkly, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, just to name some of the classics.

  • @DaniusKang lol well yeah, obviously. lol thanks though. Think ill see if theres a Mammoth Book of Cyberpunk Storie, or whatnot.

  • Dude, this is a very interesting video but the quality is megafucked. Please reupload using youtube;s HD and shit, it would be very interesting to watch properly. Also, rofl at amalarich, calling Mad Max cyberpunk. Dieselpunk maybe, but cyberpunk? WTF you idiot.

  • haha, this is great, I loved it!

  • deus ex?

  • "total recall" would fit in it also

  • Dan....you did just fine. You caught the elements quite well...Fuk 'em if they don't like it. It rocks!

  • @astraeos123 lol dipshit

  • pendejo! examples of cyberpunk: mad max, akira (otomo).

  • @amalarich First: Be man enough to insult me in my own language.

Second: While Akira has elements of cyberpunk, it is more an apocalyptic film, and Mad Max is a POST apocalyptic film.

  • @amalarich isn't madmax more steam punk?

  • @amalarich lol this a joke? Why not Evil Dead and Bridges of Madison County?

  • pendejo! examples of cyberpunk: mad max, akira (otomo)

  • I enjoyed that presentation.

  • Cant believe you dont have anything from Back to the future II

the whole future was loaded with cyberpunk stuff. specially his street, with the walking dog collars, the cement curbs red light things, the fashion etc etc

  • @v8matey You know...It never even occurred to me. But I definitely see it now. However, if I included clips from BttF, I would have been tempted to replace all the music with "Power of Love".

  • @DaniusKang hope you make some more clips like this.. =)

  • @hulking324 IT ALSO INCREASES THE SIZE OF YOUR PENIS FOR ONLY 6 EASY PAYMENTS TO A NIGERIAN PRINCE!

  • A clockwork orange?!

Just because the movie shares some themes DOES NOT make it Cyberpunk.

  • @Communistlolis First: I'm so glad that there are so many experts on the internet who know exactly how to define cyberpunk, and the all seem to comment on my videos.

Second: As I have stated numerous times, this video is not about MOVIES THAT ARE CYBERPUNK, it is about THE ELEMENTS OF CYBERPUNK, which you concede A Clockwork Orange has. I use the various films to showcase these common themes of cyberpunk.

  • @DaniusKang your highlighting some of those films just because of the dystopian setting. Yes a dystopia plays a major role in cyberpunk but these two films lack the very essence of cyberpunk. I think I would rather see Star Wars or The Fifth Element up there than Batman Beyond and A Clockwork Orange, both bad ass movies but not related to cyberpunk in any way.

  • LOL, Clockwork orange is not cyberpunk. Alot of things described in the video are simply dystopian.

  • @neverhoodyn And dystopian is one of the core elements of Cyberpunk. Which is what the video is about, the elements of that come together to make cyberpunk.

  • the faint ftw.

  • @almightyseancore indeed.

  • "There is a time in human history in which what once was fictionalized science, becomes reality" - Me Fear the future run by corporate politicians, else cyberpunk becomes reality

  • the one and only real cyberpunk movie is blady runner...

  • @IndicatorRed What is that? I've never heard of "Blady Runner".

  • @DaniusKang

realy? you`ve never heard about Blady Runner? Thats amazing! ;o)...

  • @DaniusKang maybe he meant blade runner...

  • @shining82 He couldn't have meant that. Those two titles are completely different.

  • @DaniusKang are you sarcastic, aren't you?

  • Tron is not Cyberpunk, but Disney.

  • @hyperseauton couldn't disney make a cyberpunk film? >.>

  • I would love to see some of Neal Stephenson's early work as a movie, Snow Crash, or Diamond Age, or maybe something newer like Charles Stross's Accelerando.

  • The animatrix, yes?

  • would the theme song for die another day by madonna be considered a cyberpunk theme?

  • tetsuo the iron man! CMON!!!!!

  • youtube.com/watch?v=68mbFvenlaQ

  • 4:03 who is this film called??

  • @MrNew09 Tron

  • one of the most popular cyberpunk movies EVER is Ghost in the Shell ! ! ! ! !

  • Engineered Humans: You can sit in front of the monitor the whole day without accumulating fats and or diminishing muscle.

You can live longer, and has achieved longevity.

"In an age of affordable Beauty"

And of course more Dark wave, EBM and Aggrotech music.

  • I call it "cyberchaos" because a lot of people gets confused with the word "punk", It´s not the music genre.

  • I think the first Cyberpunk publication(Film) was metropolis on 1927

  • I think the looks on the movie version of a clockwork orange are more dystopic, rathen than cyberpunk

  • is Tron cyberpunk ore just Signfiction

  • not bad at least you didn't use any clips from the matrix and @DarkAvengerVIM Gibson is credited with coning the term "cyberspace" not cyberpunk in his shirt story "Burning Chrome" sucks that the only Gibson story to ever be made was Mneumonic. Terry Gillliam's "Brazil" would of been a good one to include here.

  • Akira is awesomely cyberpunk, i dont know much about cyberpunk movies, cant find too much, one of my favourites is johnny mnemonic.

If you can tell some good movies will be great, ive watched blade runner, terminator, all the classics, judge dredd, demolition man, virtuosity, hackers, but i need more! haha

  • @zulu789456 the first robocop is such a sweet cyberpunk film

  • @Lock11811 ohhh, robocop, there goes my childhood!, what an awesome movie, gotta watch it again! thanks for the memories!

  • the funniest of all is a list i saw that considered "A clockwork Orange " cyberpunk....ACO is not a cyberpunk film..more of a sociopolitical movie....and the book emphasyses even more on the narrative..

  • Is the first Deus Ex based on cyberpunk?

  • @Mashado oh hell yes.

  • Nice to see Virtuosity in there! I worked on the visual efects back in 1995, it was staffed full of cyberpunks! 31337 !!!

  • Thats the worst song I ever heard, it doesnt sound cyberpunk to me

  • 12 monkeys is a pretty good film that would definitly fit the cyberpunk genre.

  • support your local hacker -TAZ scene! Join the pirates!

  • Cyberpunk Documental + Be part of it.

I'm looking for real fans/cineasts/writters of cyberpunk who want to appear on my shorfilm,Send a video, using regular camera, webcam etc.

Talk about the 3 movies you think are the more import. or with more prominence, and the most importnt. things to know when u talk abt cyberpunk

Upload your videos to some site like medifire or megaupload..or youtube why not..and contact me here plz.Thanx

  • i might get a thumbs down on this, but what about the fifth element?

  • @mkrulz77 Fifth Element is really more of a Space Opera than a cyberpunk setting. However, the Matrix is technically a cyberpunk film, it's just so well known I didn't use it.

  • @DaniusKang fifth element is a tribute to the tripped out sci fi comics of french artist Moebius, who was also a huge influence on blade runner.

  • @mkrulz77 yeah its not really cyberpunk. the one little city sequence is sort of cyberpunk but its not as dark. cyberpunk movies are usually very dark and depressing and deal with the more monstrous parts of humanity as our "civilization" grows.

  • Ghost in the Shell is definetly cyberpunk then X3

  • My grand father is a cyber punk.... he has attitude and has a pacemaker, lol

  • @Acadianiste lol holy shit that made me laugh. XD i hope i get one of those

  • @Acadianiste

attitude and a pacemaker? Dude! That's Steampunk!

  • @Acadianiste and what does he think of punk (not cyberpunk)?

  • I want to live in a cyberpunk world :)

  • . . . . . . . .

    you already do. >:]

wake up.the beurguning nightmare of cyberpunk is all around you.

  • In a way... but im talking about the atmosphere, the architecture...

  • @belfastbootboy : cyberpunk is not different from punk, as yesterday's authority was human, and today/tomorrow's one is technological. Look at all the technologies human actually depends on. It is authority, and it will not die anytime soon.

    Also, great vid.

  • Cyberpunk, helps you realise how shitty and lame today´s world is.

  • Hm, interesting. I was always told that the term was coined by William Gibson in one of his interviews, and then used by the the author. I could be misinformed of course. either way, good representations.

Although, I do wonder about your opinions on such movies as "Repo" and "Children of Men." They represent the dystopian future, and a lot of the "High tech, low life" aspects.

  • I actually worked (for free) for the people who made Repo! the Genetic Opera promoting it in my state. I really enjoy the film. I also quite like Children of Men, if only for its unflinching exploration of the topic.

  • @DaniusKang I'm officially your fan right now, that movie was incredible. Right now I'm reading Neuromancer, and so far its also beautifully configured. You're very lucky to have affiliated with the Repo team.

  • @DarkAvengerVIM

    I think that's Cyberspace.

  • imdb,com /title/tt1034032/board/flat/156314584

  • Well, if you are truly a "Plane Punk" as you call it, then I think you would quite appreciate the message of cyberpunk, which is to resist Authority, even when technology makes it so that said Authority is everywhere, all the time.

  • @belfastbootboy

This video apears to be an atempt at defining the Cyberpunk genre in fiction not the subculture.

  • cyberpunk music!

  • So is Aeon Flux a CyberPunk movie?

  • Yes, although not a very good one.

  • I see. Thank you for answering :)

  • @shamanata The origonal animated series was alot better, untill it got canceled

  • Thanks for sharing :D I have all of them on a DVD ;]

  • They are available on DVD?

  • Didn't mean that :) I just downloaded them from somewhere and recorded them on DVD. Sorry for confusion ;]

  • now this seems to be a thing i can get behind

  • So is Cowboy Bebop sort of a good representations of cyberpunk? or ghost in the shell?

  • Cowboy Bepop is a bit beyond cyberpunk, and definitely falls more into the space opera category. GITS is a good cyberpunk anime, though.

  • Could you please clarify? And before you do, keep in mind I am the original creator of this video.

  • Video is cool, no question about that, but information at the start is in google

  • Yes, it is a "Textbook" definition. Thats the point of the video, to take a standard definition and provide a contextual example within film. Thank you for clarifying, by the way.

  • A Clockwork Organge as cyberpunk? I disagree. It's a dystopic "futuristic" film (a future respect to the creation date), but the only presence of Ludovico technique does not make a "high technology film" as cyberpunk are. It's a satiric dystopia, or that's my opinion.

  • I mean A Clockwork Orange, sorry.

  • I've answered this already (or thought I did) but you are correct. It has elements of Cyberpunk genre however, such as Lowlife (gangs running the streets oppressive governments, misuse of tech, etc.)

  • wow. no one has mentioned neal stephenson's books? snow crash? diamond age? any of them? oooo virgins!

  • @misplacedmermaid

I loved Snow Crash, and I'm actually reading The Diamond Age now, but they were never movies, so it would be boring to just write about them in this sort of movie. I agree, though, Neal's the boss. He has a badass goatee, too.

  • snow crash was my introduction to neal. i love it. i always seem to lend my copy out and it never comes back! diamond age is good, as is cryptonomicon. i can not give you enough warning to stay away from the baroque cycle series, though....bad, bad stuff.

  • @misplacedmermaid

You know what? Thanks a tonne, I was thinking of buying it.

  • have there been any recent cyberpunk films (good ones at least)?

  • I heard Surrogates was good, didn't see it. Scanner darkly is pretty recent though, just three years old. A couple of recent ones were Babylon AD and the Gene Generation, and there were both awful.

  • @DaniusKang Oh yeah, I've seen all of those except Gene Generation. Surrogates was pretty decent but nothing monumental. Still a good movie to watch though.

Don't know if you're into reading novels but you should check out the Otherland series by Tad Williams. It's a really epic cyberpunk story.

  • I dunno, but nowadays the cyberpunk genre has been falling down so bad at least in cinematographic terms, you see Scanner Darkly was merely decent but not a masterpiece like Videodrome, Strange Days, Matrix, Ghost In The Shell, Akira or the overrated but still a classic Blade Runner and the Terminator sagas (till 2 one), im yet to the waits of a real good cyberpunk film that focuses more in the story and the genre´s aesthetic than visual effects

  • I would hardly call Videodrome a masterpiece, but overall I agree. I think it was Gibson himself who said that our lives have already caught up or a catching up to the cyberpunk age. It just seems that the fiction isn't advancing with it.

  • whats the name of the first song?

  • "The geeks were right" by The Faint

  • great vid so cool

  • and where the fuck is Strange Days?????

  • One of those movies I've always heard good things about but never got around to seeing.

  • could the matrix be considered a cyberpunk film?
