I am an uneducated Japanese but I would like to say a few words.
The British ruled their Empire with style and dignity, to which Japan looked up to, and attempted and endeavoured to imitate in her colonies.
Britain was lucky to have India, and India was lucky to have Britain. India had the intellectual capacity to make the best use of what Britain had left behind. Gandhi's wit over the dress code only shows the level of intellect amongst the local ruling class in India.
I love the way that Marr, throughout this series and the other one he did on modern Britain, examines homegrown British cinema as evidence. I never knew half these films existed!
@199019852007 I'll agree that the treatment of the Members of the British Empire post 1800 was nothing short of a disgrace, but i do not agree with giving them independence just because the made a bit of a fuss... then again if we had not who would we play cricket against?!
@ColFeren We didn't give them back their independance because they made a bit of a fuss, you idiot. We could no longer afford them, therefore we had no choice.
@ToaJoe My dear boy, I was not attempting to portray a correct historical analysis, indeed I was doing nothing less than giving a humorous, jingoist. touch to a grim sate of affairs, further more I would submit that you are one hell of a rude blighter and I don't give a damn for the way you present your opinions... I have no wish to read such poorly word tosh, so bugger off!
@ColFeren true Britain has given a lot to world especially in terms of sports and insfructure just look at the railway network of India as an an example. Two Ashes series in a row never thought that would happen in my lifetime.
I'd like to see this Sing As We Go ;D
