@DaughtersOfDeath1012, you are right what you said in your last video. I have been diabetic fir 9 years almost 10 and I'm now 17 years old. With controlled diabetes none of that stuff is likely to happen, so do not let this video scare you into thinking it will to you. Maybe one day in a thousand years to come there will be a cure. And as for those diabetics who "want to die" get a grip. There is people who are dying of cancer and are suffering a painful death, and to me id rather have diabetes
theres no cure for diabetes! stop letting people feed you bullshit! diabetes come naturally! ive spoke to many doctors asking for cues and there is none!
Hey there! Have you thought about intellectus diet (search on google for intellectus424dietcom)? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my cousin lost a ton of weight with it.
im diabetic since i have 5 years now im 13 im tired of looking for a cure everywhere im type 1 i have an insulin pump i hope that a cure can be found because i cant stop thinking of that D':
ok dude im 14 and have only had diabetes for a year and a half and this seriously scared me!! My docter told me that If i took good care of my self that none of that would happen. i take care of myself! but does ths mean im going to die young from it or have to loose a body part?!?! dude im freaked now! i dont want that to happen to me!!!!!!
WHY DO PEOPLE HAVE TO MAKE SUCH FRICKIN SERIOUS VIDEOS ABOUT DIABETES? I know it's a curse people, I've had it since I was 6, and I'm 10 now, but diabetes isn't all that bad. I've made more friends than you can count who have diabetes, and one of my best friendships started JUST AND ONLY JUST because of diabetes. The only way we can have a cure is if we believe we can. Once I went up to a person who didn't believe and said, '' Hey, asshole, there's something great called HOPE! You should try.
@DaughtersOfDeath1012 I seriously doubt you are 10 years old. Give your true age and I would agree with you. But make statements like this, swear and state your 10 years old and you sound like a liar. State your true age, people might agree with you.
@salrac59 Sorry 'bout that last part. I didn't actually ever do that. But yes, I was 10 when I wrote that comment, and I am older now. I realize what I wrote was lame. Srry.
@toastytoast3919 Go to the Doctor if you may be worried. And when I became Diagnosed. I had lost 16 lbs in 2 days, couldnt eat anything, Because i would just puke it up for 2 days. and For about a month I was dehydrated like crazy. After i finished a pop or drink, I would need another. And would sometimes wake up to go pee in the middle of the night around 4 times. And I started getting really weak. The Normal blood sugar for a person is between 4 and 8 mmol/L.
I agree with this video, and I've shown it to all my peers to inform them. This vid actually helps whoop me into shape to help me regulate sugars better.
Also, who agrees that there is WAY to much emphasis on fucking Nick Jonas? Nothing against him but these fans just don't realize he's not the only diabetic for gosh sake!
MAYBE...we should all believe in scientology and eat the placenta our new born children...it's the same thing right? I recently got diagnosed type 1 diabetic and i'm fifteen and i'm not fussed. Jesus, you make it sound way more horrible than it actually is.
Ok, first of all, Bush didn't stop stem cell research. He stopped GOVERNMENT FUNDING of any kind of EMBRYONIC stem cell research. He still allowed private companies to pursue that cause but said that the government won't support it. Non-embryonic stem cells, however, were still allowed and have been used to fight diabetes and I must say, it's looking good! I'm a type 1 myself and I look forward to a cure, but if we have to abort kids to get stem cells, then I don't want a cure :(
how successful would a huge medical development like stem cell research possibly advance without government funding? george bush branded stem cells with a bad name. he slowed down the process at the very VERY least, and that's just dumb.
also, stem cells come from clinics and would have otherwise been thrown away. why the hell would anyone discourage recycling something that can cure diseases?
Ok here's the thing though. A cure for diabetes via stem cell research is the holy grail of human accomplishment right now. That means that a HUGE number of private investors are selling their souls to get a piece of it. There's so much money in the private sector going to stem cell research that the only thing I can see the government doing is slowing down the process until it's got so many silly rules that we can't do anything. We can get stem cells EASILY without abortion and we have done it!
kgirl2007, i totally agree with you. i can't remember life without diabetes either(diagnosed at age 4) and i've always wondered what it would be like to not have it
when I was first diagnosed it was easier to control. my a1c is usually around 10 but it actually came down to 8.3 and yes i take a lot of insulin on my pump my basal rate is 1.75 and my ratio is 1/5 and when i took lantus i took 41 units but I just got back from diabetes camp it has helped me a lot i'm trying to control it better
09whitlee, i just became diabetic two months ago. My sugar count when i went in was close to 600. I am able to manage it better now thanks to help. Just wondering what you eat and around what number is your sugar level? Are you also insulin resistant so it takes more insulin to do the trick?
I'm a type 1 I've had diabetes since I was 6 now I'm 18 my eye sight is getting worse and I suffer from high blood sugars all the time its usually HI and i've been in DKA over 19 times no matter what I do it stays high and it sucks very bad!
I got type one when I was in kindergarten. I've had it for 9 years. It sucks to have a life where you don't remember what it was like without the condition.
it bothers me how type 2 isnt actually as much fatal as type 1. the economy is focusing more on type 2 because its easier to take care of. type one is more important and we need to focus on that. im only 13. im type 1. diabetes is causing me kidney issues. im expected to die within a year.
I'm a type 1, newly diagnosed this past december. i'm 16 and can't wait to do the walk for the cure in my state. all of my friends and family are all behind and joining me in it. :)
I cant believe how dumb the public is. If you shove shit into you mouth your gonna get cancer and or diabetes. I reversed my type 2 with natural foods. Eat your seeds!!! Buy organic!
type one diabetes can't be avoided, reguardless of how healthy you are. it strikes at a young age and stays forever. cures are being developed, but it would take decades before one can become a safe procedure.
But.....that's what scientist used to think about all disease. Meanwhile, everyone's eating an un-natural diet.
I suggest to all - Because what you focus on expands, don't focus on the disease but on reversal through health (the body has the ability to heal itself if given the chance..
@Gary1111001 Gary, Do you know the difference between T2D and T1D? Type 1 is autoimmune and is genetic. Type 1 and Type 2 are the same disease in name only, pretty much.
Your body cannot kickstart the pancreas again. Once the beta cells die, there is no fix. Just MDI, or pumping. At the moment anyway.
@Gary1111001 LIke I said. "At the moment". I am aware this is not possible NOW. I am literally obsessed with diabetes and insulin, and eat up as much knowledge as I can about both.
@Gary1111001 You obviously don't understand Type 1 diabetes at all. The pancreas is already on a "break" or a "rest". It is already not doing anything when you eat. That is what Type 1 is. It doesn't work, period. As for whether or not you eat fresh fruit or canned, or whatever, carbs are carbs, and every single carb needs to be covered by insulin, via MDI or a pump, and taxes the pancreas as much as any other carbs if working. Everything converts to sugar, and has to be addressed.
I'll rephrase: Maybe if the BODY is given the chance, under proper conditions, the pancreas can heal. It's all connected. And the pancreas is still alive; just not doing anything.
When I mentioned juice therapy, I wasn't focusing on carbs. I'm completely going AROUND the problem; focusing on a natural solution: the beneficial substances in the veggies. and the absence of man-made junk heals the body.
@Gary1111001 I understand your sentiment, and it is sound advice, however those using insulin can't stop using it and focus on a healthy diet. All food, no matter what it is, is, in essence, sugar. With Type 1, the immune system itself, attacked the pancreas, killing the beta cells, thinking it was a foreign invader. Of course, healthy lifestyles are veyr beneficial, but are in no way, a cure, or a fix.
@Gary1111001 I am not sure where you get your facts, but there is as much sugar carbs in all forms of juices as well. Juice therapy is great for weight loss, and MAYBE for Type 2's, but is totally irrelevant for Type one, NOW and in the future. Do you realize how many carbs are in all forms of juices, natural or otherwise? And you can't go 100percent sugar free, because you'll die. You still need sugar to live, period.
wow your a fricking idiot. type one and type two are not even close to the same disease. in fact im discusted they even consider type two diabetes. you caused it yourself through bad habits. i got mine through a mutation in my genes just as all other type one diabetes!
@MairiKetokiri type 2 is very broad. it can come from genes and in some cases be even tougher to control than type 1. some type 2 diabetics can be unusually resistant to insulin, to the point where their sugars never come down from 300 no matter how hard they try. both forms of diabetes require diet, medication, and care, and shouldn't be isolated conditions.
type 2 diabetes can go into frickiing remission, type 1 diabetes will never go away, even when they do find a cure. ppl like me will NOT be cured, ive had it for too long to be able to heal and cure it. these have a few simular traits, true, however it should not be grouped together as diabetes you can get into better control of your diabetes type 2 AND type 1. but that does not mean they are anywhere near the same disease. type 1 is a LIFE THREATEING DISEA
What's the point of this video? Stem cell research is to help those with TYPE 1 diabetes, the severe non-preventable form of the disease. Very few people have Type 1 (about 5-10% of all diabetics). Most diabetics are Type 2, which is insulin resistance at a cellular level almost always due to obesity and lifestyle choices. Stem cells don't cure insulin resistance, which is a cellular metabolic disease. Most diabetics (20 million in the US) are Type 2. Stem cells won't help them.
actually stem cell transplants have helped type 2 diabetic patients in studies. search "stem cells type 2 diabetes" on google.
insulin resistance can also be countered with a better diet and exersize. people with insulin resistance don't need injections of insulin to have perfectly normal blood sugar levels. but even if i'm cured, i'd still have to live healthy to avoid getting type 2 diabetes. EVERYONE has to live a healthy lifestyle, whether to manage diabetes or prevent it.
i have class I diabetes and im from finland. here lives over 5million people and 240000 people has a diabetes. I have heard that in 5-10 years you dont have to pump insuline anymore becose the doctors (or something like that im bad at english) are doing research to invent a piller what you can eat and you dont have to pump insuline what may sometimes hurt. when i my bloodsugar was 46.7 fin what means propaly 467 in america thats 10 times bigger than normal sugarblood
my dad is a type II and recently started living again. he decided to take matters into his own hands and started going on small hikes with his friends... then last month he decided to climb Half Dome in Yosemite. there's no stopping him; because he's exercising more and eating healthier, his blood sugar has stabilized. his doctor and i are very proud :)
I don't think we will see a cure for Diabetes for a very long time so stop living your life in hope for the day it will come. Just get out there and live your life FULLSTOP!!!
As for the comment on not living much longer than 30years with Type 1....what a load of crap....if you spent more time looking after yourself and doing a bit of research into your condition you might survive a bit longer!!!!
Ok...this is really bad. You are scaring the sh*t out of kids and newly diagnosed diabetics. I am 26 and have had T1 for 17 years now. My HbA1c is 6.6%. I am using a pump and live a very nomal, VERY hectic life. Diabetes doesn not now, nor ever will stop me from doing anything I want to. My 1st nurse put it very well..."you don't have a disease, you have a pain in the ass". Stop complaining about it and just get on with it!!!.....
Of course there's a need for one as far as we (diabetics) are concerned...BUT... lets face it...we're worth more to pharmaceutical companies now that we have diabetes than if we didn't! Money rules the world. Sad but true! :(
i ment that the numbers are correct but you don't die necessary from diabetes if you respect what the doctors tell you by getting insulin and eating some carbs per day.
yea. but some conditions like retinopathy are iminent for diabetics. no matter how well you monitor your sugar, it WILL go higher and lower than someone without diabetes throughout the day, and when it does it damages your body. just the nature and definition of being diabetic opens up all these possible conditions that can happen. and people DO die from them, more than a handful every day.
the literal definition of 'diabetes mellitus' is 'sweet.' i'm sure your sugar has gone high before, hasn't it?
just having diabetes opens up a range of problems. sure you can live a normal and healthy life, but you'll still be more at risk for complications than other people.
It is not fun having diabetes. I have to get a finger-prick and insulin 4 times a day. PLEASE! SOMEONE HAVE A CURE. I have been diganosed with diabetes for 9 yrs.
several cures have worked in lab mice. but it's not at the "practical procedure" point. jumping from mice to humans requires clinical trials, and several are underway. it will take a while to ensure that a diabetes cure is safe and effective.
that's type 2. in type 2, the pancreas can start working through pills and it will be able to regulate blood sugar on its own without constant testing. in type one, the pancreas doesn't work at all and all insulin must be given in shots, requiring constant blood testing to make sure sugar levels don't get too high or too low, as well as visiting the doctor to adjust insulin levels.
from infections or diseases, diabetics are twice as likely to die from it than people without diabetes. plus, diabetes shortens your life expectancy. you'll rarely find a type 1 diabetic who had it for more than 30 years.
sorry man that's bull shit lol i'm type 1 with an insulin pump and i know a man who is 90 some years old and was diagnosed at age 14... i was diagnosed at 14 so there are quite a bit of people who have it for A LOT longer than 30 years we all want a cure but stop blowing it out your ass do some research man you've obviously had it longer than i have you should know these things don't be ignorant and scare other people, it's not cool man =(
you only gave me one example. there are millions (more than 2) of type one diabetics out there, and it's general. people can live long with diabetes, but it's very difficult. some people have to take more than 2 shots a day to keep their sugars down, and they're the ones most at risk.
people are stretching the video a bit too far. the idea was that a cure can't come soon enough because people are dying from it. now given they might be people that don't take it seriously and decide not to test their blood sugar, but it's everywhere! almost everyone in the world knows or met someone with diabetes, and it can [and does] cause so much life-threatening problems. we need a cure NOW, not years from now.
dude dont talk to me about taking shots. Do you even know what an insulin pump is... it means im on an insulin drip for the rest of my life! trust me i know what it's like to take shots!!! and trust me im not a very good diabetic, i've had my fair share of very close encounters. Last january i spent 5 days in a hospital in a coma with an A1C of 20 ok man so i know how bad it can be and i still stay on my feet. Like i said i want a cure just as bad as you but trust me i know the risks >:(
no i didnt miscalculate i know what it is.... so yeah i know what it's like man dont try and tell me what i already know all this vid does is scare ppl
I dont think he miscalculated i am his mother and i almost lost my son that day. I want nothing more than for them to find a cure, but you have to live life for today and not for what is to come. I pray everyday for the health of my son and the health of all you out there living with diabetes.
i was diagnosed with type1 diabetes at 8 yrs old i thaught i wasnt going to be able to play sports, or do anything a person without diabetes could do. but now im 11 and i play football baseball basketball soccer and im living my life like a normal person just goes to show that people with diabetes can do everything a person without diabetes could
Hey Taylapearl, I am physiology lecturer in the UK. You are right with type 1, it is an autoimmune disease where your immune system destroys the cells that make insulin.
Type 2 is usually in obese people, but it is caused by their pancreas being worn out by the amount of food/sugar they have taken in over the years. It can also be caused by fauly insulin receptors on the cell surface, so the body produces more insulin to get the right effect, wearing out the pancreas over time.
Thanks tommywazza, That helped me heaps! As i was saying on a different video, my friend had all the classic symptoms for anemia but it wasnt anemia. But apparently the symptoms for diabetes are sorta the same.
yes, insulin can't be produced in type 1 diabetics. tommywazza is correct in that type 2 is caused by the pancreas wearing out. older people get type 2 because of their bodies getting weaker and younger people get type 2 only if they put too much pressure on their pancreas. type 1 occurs as a juvenile (usually before adolescence, but it can occur during) from a disease.
I'm sorry you do not have diabetes, you have fat. Fat is not a disease just like alcoholism is not a disease. Cancer is a disease, AIDS is a disease, polio is a disease. An indulgence is not a disease. Stem cell reach is awesome for those with a disease. Fucken rights! Guess what is not a disease? Conditions caused by obesity!
type 1 diabetes is caused by a virus that forces your immune system to attack the pancreas and stop it from producing insulin. this type of diabetes occurs as a juvenile, usually before a child becomes an adolescent. it cannot be prevented and does not occur from glucose, food, or body fat. it is a disease.
type 2 diabetes occurs from a weakened pancreas which can be caused by obesity.
assumptions aren't always facts, and your assumption was definatelly not a fact. and, i'm not overweight.
I get how this is meant to inform people, but im a 14 year old girl with diabetes, and this video has really scared me about how its going to affect my health. I had no idea how bad it gets. U might want to consider the young people with diabetes watching this, because it is really scary.
Katie, you can severely delay the complications, and even avoid them altogether if you manage the condition properly. In fact, you might even be healthier then alot of non-diabetic people due to this diligence. Learn about basal insulin, how to bolus, carb counting, etc. I recommend a book caleld Think Like a Pancreas. It is well written, highly rated, and very informative and is written for the laymen so it is easy to understand.
And when I said, "I second that", I was referring to lilviola's comment about the fact that doctors, pharm companies and all those affiliated do not profit from a cure, they only profit from the treatment of. I have great hope that there will be a cure for many diseases but I also see how this world and humanity work and I know the power of money has almost always come in front of human lives. I still have hope though, that we all do something to cause the effects of finding the cures.
Ok, so I am 17 years old and have had type 1 diabetes since i was 3 years old. I don't believe in stem stell research though. Do you really think that your life is more valuable than millions of potential humans, who will get killed, if stem cell research is allowed? Even though Obama now made it legal. How can you seriously be so selfish about your life? I don't think my life is worth anything more than anyone elses.
stem cell research doesn't kill anybody in the process. embryonic cells (cells that grow into a baby) are stored from people that have an abortion. they can either be thrown away, or used to cure diseases. george bush was concerned about cloning and palin was concerned about killing babies, which wasn't true.
obama put a limit on stem cell research so it's never used for cloning, just curing diseases. how is that a bad thing? and how does giving hope to millions of people make me selfish?
yeah and i also have to say that..its not being selfish to want to cure the disease you have..because you can relate to others in knowing the it affects your whole life and it can kill you..why would you not want to let something be done to help other people with this disease? i think youre a bit ridiculous
Great scare tatics in this video but just remember, There will never be a marketed cure for type1 diabetes. Nobody profits from a cure but drug companies, doctors, health care providers, and the producers of all that CRAP you need to live with type1 diabetes, all profit from the "TREATMENT". That is reality.
I second that lilviola. Im a type 1 diabetic going on 16 yrs now and with or w/out insurance for accurate treatment care the cost is still hundreds of dollars per month, thousands per year, just to stay alive and maintain a somewhat "normal" existence. So draw from it what you will but let me ask you, if your child could be cured from all the frustrations and heartaches of this disease wouldn't you do whatever it takes to make that a reality for them?
Dear kgmusic1216_The drug companies, doctors, and yes even the JFRF all play on your sympathies. They know that parents will do whatever it takes to help their children. Thats how they $uck the money out of your pockets. Ive heard that Cure for diabetes soon song and dance my entire life and I am just not listening anymore. Its a lie.
george bush postponed funding for stem cell research for 2, 1/2 years on top of lobbyists postponing it forever. but barack obama is funding the research.
Funding research and curing a "condition" are not the same. I'm saying that you will never see a "Marketed Cure" for diabetes. It just isn't going to happen. Even if research were to produce a cure, the public will never benefit from it. That huge dollar amount you see in the video is the reason you will never see a marketed cure. Now someone please slap Mary Tyler Moore for me.
i have diabetes and i dont want the pump because it would be annoying to have to take it off for sports, or swimming or just rough housing with my brothers
i am also a diabetic and i also hve the pump!! it is the most amazing thing ever!! i am also very athletic....it duz get kinda annoying but ur aloud to take it off!! i suggest the pump xspecially if ur athletic!
Add to your friends list, I am a diabetic type 2. I am terribly angry at our president about vetoeing a bill allow stem cell research. I beleive diabetes is weaponized to depopulate the continent slowly without causing a panic. I could be wrong but who knows. I hope one day that we can overcome this disease that can actually claim a life. I have suffered seizures at the hand of aspartame. thanks to monsanto and serle pharm company. I hope these people go bankrupt and vanish. stone
I have a natural alternative that may work for anyone. You can also earn 2-5k per month residual income or more,no selling and no risk.I have a woman in my organization and within 30 days her blood sugar levels are almost normal. Her dr. lowered her medication
hey mariomguy I appreciate your message but could you clearly sate what type of diabetes please because just saying diabetes really gets on my nerves. In my sixth grade class is when my pe teacher diabetes odeisety and everyone in the class stared at me. I have type one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There's one person in the philippines who discovered a herbal juice that can cure any diseases. From diabetes to high blood to a simple flu. His name is Mr. Rey Herrera, check out his invention.
the purpose was to show that diabetes is a problem, and not that insulin is the answer. yes, if you manage your diabetes well, that stuff won't happen to you. but that doesn't eliminate the fact that the disease as a whole shouldn't be taken seriously. right now cancer is the "big thing" and people seemed to have lost the impact diabetes has.
obama supports stem cell research and the technolagy is there. let's hope diabetes can be cured before anything permanent happens...
yeah I'm diabetic myself and I'm totally for stem cell research I just wanted to say something so people don't freak out and to let them know that those diseases can be minamized if not prevented......sorry i kinda suck at spelling
i've gotten lots of comments from people saying things like "this is so sad, makes me want to cry." i guess i should put the purpose of this video in the description.
I have had Diabetes since I was 5, My walk-a-thon team raises $20,000 every year, hopefully Obama will support Stem Cell Research, it could mean a cure for everyone who has posted saying they have Diabetes, I want a cure so much!
obama AND mccain both supported stem cell research. sarah palin was against it and from her first interview, but she could've been drunk and completelly unaware what the heck she was saying. i can't tell...
Twice as likely to die? We all will die at some point. What a stupid comment to make. If you take care of yourself- You'll be fine. If you eat like a swamp rat and don't get exercise, you'll die permaturely regardless.
it was an estimate i guess based from likely causes of death. so if someone diabetic died from lung disease which was caused by diabetes, it was considered in the estimate. it's not like having diabetes automatically makes you likely to die, it just increases the chance that you'll die from things that normally wouldn't kill you, like the flu. i went to the hospital for 2 days because of the flu. it's that bad.
I think you're referring to AIDS. I've been a type 1 since i was 9. I'm 26 and never had a problem. I know i'm lucky, but it's because I exersise and keep my blood sugars under 150- always. my a1c is 6% give or take .2. I just hate that all of these siminars I go to has all these poor poor diabetic stories. It's really not that bad if you're on an insulin pump. Especially if you have continuous glucose monitoring.
It makes me sad to think people think just because you get an insulin pump or exercise it will make you all better or fix all problems. I'll be 18 in two days and am currently on an insulin pump and have been for just over 5 years and I'm still sicker than a dog most days I used to spend months in the hospital because they never knew how I was so sick Ive been clinically dead atleast 5 times because of being diabetic and its nothing Im doing wrong; I take very good care of myself being only 17
Per my post, I must be vey lucky. I've had it since I was 9 and i'm now 26. Never went to the hospital for a diabetic problem. I have great Dr.'s in Atlanta that you can thank for most insulin pump designs. You just got to live your life, don't ignore the disease you have, but live your life just like any 17 year old would. Insulin pumps are just like computers, you can have the best one in the world- but it is only as good as its user. Do you go to an internal med. dr. or an endocrinologist?
What got me mad was this damn YouTube video. Looks like it was a takeoff of a nazi camp in WWII. People.... Stop getting so down on this disease. It sucks, I know- I have it. But I am very... very insensitive to people that play the "oohh poor me I got Diabetes" story. Either get busy dying or get busy living!
I completely agree in a way.. I hate when people just play the "poor me card" and try and turn all attention on them when reality is this is a disease lots and lots of people have in this world and yes it can be bad if you make it that way and yes it can be under control if only you try I am very understanding when it comes to brital diabetics having to go through it myself but I hate when people milk it with everything they got..
I mean your last comment not video! Lol

@toastytoast3919 When i was sent to the hospital. My blood sugar was 71.1 mmol/L. And People usually go into commas at 28-35 mmol/L.

I'm a type 1 myself and I look forward to a cure, but if we have to abort kids to get stem cells, then I don't want a cure :(
AllAboutMagic 2 years ago
how successful would a huge medical development like stem cell research possibly advance without government funding? george bush branded stem cells with a bad name. he slowed down the process at the very VERY least, and that's just dumb.
also, stem cells come from clinics and would have otherwise been thrown away. why the hell would anyone discourage recycling something that can cure diseases?
mariomguy 2 years ago 2
Ok here's the thing though. A cure for diabetes via stem cell research is the holy grail of human accomplishment right now. That means that a HUGE number of private investors are selling their souls to get a piece of it. There's so much money in the private sector going to stem cell research that the only thing I can see the government doing is slowing down the process until it's got so many silly rules that we can't do anything. We can get stem cells EASILY without abortion and we have done it!

kgirl2007, i totally agree with you. i can't remember life without diabetes either(diagnosed at age 4) and i've always wondered what it would be like to not have it
musicturg 2 years ago
when I was first diagnosed it was easier to control. my a1c is usually around 10 but it actually came down to 8.3 and yes i take a lot of insulin on my pump my basal rate is 1.75 and my ratio is 1/5 and when i took lantus i took 41 units but I just got back from diabetes camp it has helped me a lot i'm trying to control it better
09whitlee 2 years ago
shoot for 6. 8.3 is ridiculously high for an a1c.

09whitlee, i just became diabetic two months ago. My sugar count when i went in was close to 600. I am able to manage it better now thanks to help. Just wondering what you eat and around what number is your sugar level? Are you also insulin resistant so it takes more insulin to do the trick?

type one diabetes can't be avoided, reguardless of how healthy you are. it strikes at a young age and stays forever. cures are being developed, but it would take decades before one can become a safe procedure.

- "type one diabetes can't be avoided"
But.....that's what scientist used to think about all disease. Meanwhile, everyone's eating an un-natural diet.

DelphinusMinor 2 years ago
"Your body cannot kickstart the pancreas again."
Maybe it can if given the chance, under proper conditions.
"Once the beta cells die, there is no fix. "
The experts believed - a few years ago - that brain cells couldn't repair themselves. Then it was discovered they could.
ditto for eye damage.
Throughout history, people believed in things that were not true. Experts were wrong about a lot of things.........and still are.
Gary1111001 2 years ago
@Gary1111001 LIke I said. "At the moment". I am aware this is not possible NOW. I am literally obsessed with diabetes and insulin, and eat up as much knowledge as I can about both.
DelphinusMinor 2 years ago
"Maybe it can if given the chance, under proper conditions."
What I'm saying is: if the pancreas gets rest(fasting, raw/fruit diets), or the proper nutrients(juice therapy), it might work as meant to.
Gary1111001 2 years ago
@Gary1111001 You obviously don't understand Type 1 diabetes at all. The pancreas is already on a "break" or a "rest". It is already not doing anything when you eat. That is what Type 1 is. It doesn't work, period. As for whether or not you eat fresh fruit or canned, or whatever, carbs are carbs, and every single carb needs to be covered by insulin, via MDI or a pump, and taxes the pancreas as much as any other carbs if working. Everything converts to sugar, and has to be addressed.
DelphinusMinor 2 years ago
I'll rephrase: Maybe if the BODY is given the chance, under proper conditions, the pancreas can heal. It's all connected. And the pancreas is still alive; just not doing anything.
When I mentioned juice therapy, I wasn't focusing on carbs. I'm completely going AROUND the problem; focusing on a natural solution: the beneficial substances in the veggies. and the absence of man-made junk heals the body.
Gary1111001 2 years ago
@Gary1111001 I understand your sentiment, and it is sound advice, however those using insulin can't stop using it and focus on a healthy diet. All food, no matter what it is, is, in essence, sugar. With Type 1, the immune system itself, attacked the pancreas, killing the beta cells, thinking it was a foreign invader. Of course, healthy lifestyles are veyr beneficial, but are in no way, a cure, or a fix.
DelphinusMinor 2 years ago 2
cont........Disorders are un-natural / man-made. Albert Einstein said : "You can't solve a problem with the same mind that created it."
edit: I was just on a diabetes forum. Seems a lot of them aren't willing to even give up wine, or certain foods. I'll give up now.
Gary1111001 2 years ago
@Gary1111001 I am not sure where you get your facts, but there is as much sugar carbs in all forms of juices as well. Juice therapy is great for weight loss, and MAYBE for Type 2's, but is totally irrelevant for Type one, NOW and in the future. Do you realize how many carbs are in all forms of juices, natural or otherwise? And you can't go 100percent sugar free, because you'll die. You still need sugar to live, period.
DelphinusMinor 2 years ago 2
@4g63gen1
wow your a fricking idiot. type one and type two are not even close to the same disease. in fact im discusted they even consider type two diabetes. you caused it yourself through bad habits. i got mine through a mutation in my genes just as all other type one diabetes!
MairiKetokiri 1 year ago
@MairiKetokiri type 2 is very broad. it can come from genes and in some cases be even tougher to control than type 1. some type 2 diabetics can be unusually resistant to insulin, to the point where their sugars never come down from 300 no matter how hard they try. both forms of diabetes require diet, medication, and care, and shouldn't be isolated conditions.
mariomguy 1 year ago
@mariomguy isolated conditions huh?
type 2 diabetes can go into frickiing remission, type 1 diabetes will never go away, even when they do find a cure. ppl like me will NOT be cured, ive had it for too long to be able to heal and cure it. these have a few simular traits, true, however it should not be grouped together as diabetes you can get into better control of your diabetes type 2 AND type 1. but that does not mean they are anywhere near the same disease. type 1 is a LIFE THREATEING DISEA

ReginaChick 2 years ago
actually stem cell transplants have helped type 2 diabetic patients in studies. search "stem cells type 2 diabetes" on google.
insulin resistance can also be countered with a better diet and exersize. people with insulin resistance don't need injections of insulin to have perfectly normal blood sugar levels. but even if i'm cured, i'd still have to live healthy to avoid getting type 2 diabetes. EVERYONE has to live a healthy lifestyle, whether to manage diabetes or prevent it.

yea. but some conditions like retinopathy are iminent for diabetics. no matter how well you monitor your sugar, it WILL go higher and lower than someone without diabetes throughout the day, and when it does it damages your body. just the nature and definition of being diabetic opens up all these possible conditions that can happen. and people DO die from them, more than a handful every day.

that's type 2. in type 2, the pancreas can start working through pills and it will be able to regulate blood sugar on its own without constant testing. in type one, the pancreas doesn't work at all and all insulin must be given in shots, requiring constant blood testing to make sure sugar levels don't get too high or too low, as well as visiting the doctor to adjust insulin levels.
mariomguy 2 years ago
we are all gunna die somehow so how are they twice as likely to die?
RolesyTvl 2 years ago
from infections or diseases, diabetics are twice as likely to die from it than people without diabetes. plus, diabetes shortens your life expectancy. you'll rarely find a type 1 diabetic who had it for more than 30 years.

you only gave me one example. there are millions (more than 2) of type one diabetics out there, and it's general. people can live long with diabetes, but it's very difficult. some people have to take more than 2 shots a day to keep their sugars down, and they're the ones most at risk.

2menace 2 years ago
people are stretching the video a bit too far. the idea was that a cure can't come soon enough because people are dying from it. now given they might be people that don't take it seriously and decide not to test their blood sugar, but it's everywhere! almost everyone in the world knows or met someone with diabetes, and it can [and does] cause so much life-threatening problems. we need a cure NOW, not years from now.

Hope this hps

taylapearl 2 years ago
Isnt type 1 auto immune where you cant produce insulin.
And type 2 caused by weight crashing down on your pancreas so you cant create insulin.
Please let me know ! I'm curious. It seems like your trying to scare people, sorry thats my opinion cause you scared me.
taylapearl 2 years ago
yes, insulin can't be produced in type 1 diabetics. tommywazza is correct in that type 2 is caused by the pancreas wearing out. older people get type 2 because of their bodies getting weaker and younger people get type 2 only if they put too much pressure on their pancreas. type 1 occurs as a juvenile (usually before adolescence, but it can occur during) from a disease.

PrettyLittleLadybug7 2 years ago
to whom is this a response to?
mariomguy 2 years ago
type 1 diabetes is caused by a virus that forces your immune system to attack the pancreas and stop it from producing insulin. this type of diabetes occurs as a juvenile, usually before a child becomes an adolescent. it cannot be prevented and does not occur from glucose, food, or body fat. it is a disease.
type 2 diabetes occurs from a weakened pancreas which can be caused by obesity.
assumptions aren't always facts, and your assumption was definatelly not a fact. and, i'm not overweight.

I still have hope though, that we all do something to cause the effects of finding the cures.
kgmusic1216 2 years ago
Ok, so I am 17 years old and have had type 1 diabetes since i was 3 years old. I don't believe in stem stell research though. Do you really think that your life is more valuable than millions of potential humans, who will get killed, if stem cell research is allowed? Even though Obama now made it legal. How can you seriously be so selfish about your life? I don't think my life is worth anything more than anyone elses.
KevinBecknerMela 2 years ago
stem cell research doesn't kill anybody in the process. embryonic cells (cells that grow into a baby) are stored from people that have an abortion. they can either be thrown away, or used to cure diseases. george bush was concerned about cloning and palin was concerned about killing babies, which wasn't true.
obama put a limit on stem cell research so it's never used for cloning, just curing diseases. how is that a bad thing? and how does giving hope to millions of people make me selfish?
mariomguy 2 years ago
yeah and i also have to say that..its not being selfish to want to cure the disease you have..because you can relate to others in knowing the it affects your whole life and it can kill you..why would you not want to let something be done to help other people with this disease? i think youre a bit ridiculous

Even if research were to produce a cure, the public will never benefit from it. That huge dollar amount you see in the video is the reason you will never see a marketed cure. Now someone please slap Mary Tyler Moore for me.

You could be diagnosed with diabetes just as easily as anyone else. Remember, what comes around goes around.

I hope these people go bankrupt and vanish. stone

There's one person in the philippines who discovered a herbal juice that can cure any diseases. From diabetes to high blood to a simple flu. His name is Mr. Rey Herrera, check out his invention.
stynx2008 3 years ago
What they dont mention is that blindness and limb loss and most of the oter things only happen to diabetics that dont rake care of the blood sugar
Goofygirl3030 3 years ago
the purpose was to show that diabetes is a problem, and not that insulin is the answer. yes, if you manage your diabetes well, that stuff won't happen to you. but that doesn't eliminate the fact that the disease as a whole shouldn't be taken seriously. right now cancer is the "big thing" and people seemed to have lost the impact diabetes has.
obama supports stem cell research and the technolagy is there. let's hope diabetes can be cured before anything permanent happens...
mariomguy 3 years ago
yeah I'm diabetic myself and I'm totally for stem cell research I just wanted to say something so people don't freak out and to let them know that those diseases can be minamized if not prevented......sorry i kinda suck at spelling

i've gotten lots of comments from people saying things like "this is so sad, makes me want to cry." i guess i should put the purpose of this video in the description.
mariomguy 3 years ago
oh yeah and i agree the media put way to much emphisis on cancer! not that its not important but way more people have diabetes than cancer!!
Goofygirl3030 3 years ago
This is so sad =[ It makes me want to cry... I still have a hope, I'm still waiting for a cure!

I have had Diabetes since I was 5, My walk-a-thon team raises $20,000 every year, hopefully Obama will support Stem Cell Research, it could mean a cure for everyone who has posted saying they have Diabetes, I want a cure so much!
Pendragon5657 3 years ago
obama AND mccain both supported stem cell research. sarah palin was against it and from her first interview, but she could've been drunk and completelly unaware what the heck she was saying. i can't tell...

Twice as likely to die? We all will die at some point. What a stupid comment to make. If you take care of yourself- You'll be fine. If you eat like a swamp rat and don't get exercise, you'll die permaturely regardless.
bjordan53 3 years ago
it was an estimate i guess based from likely causes of death. so if someone diabetic died from lung disease which was caused by diabetes, it was considered in the estimate. it's not like having diabetes automatically makes you likely to die, it just increases the chance that you'll die from things that normally wouldn't kill you, like the flu. i went to the hospital for 2 days because of the flu. it's that bad.
mariomguy 3 years ago
I think you're referring to AIDS. I've been a type 1 since i was 9. I'm 26 and never had a problem. I know i'm lucky, but it's because I exersise and keep my blood sugars under 150- always. my a1c is 6% give or take .2. I just hate that all of these siminars I go to has all these poor poor diabetic stories. It's really not that bad if you're on an insulin pump. Especially if you have continuous glucose monitoring.
bjordan53 3 years ago
It makes me sad to think people think just because you get an insulin pump or exercise it will make you all better or fix all problems. I'll be 18 in two days and am currently on an insulin pump and have been for just over 5 years and I'm still sicker than a dog most days I used to spend months in the hospital because they never knew how I was so sick Ive been clinically dead atleast 5 times because of being diabetic and its nothing Im doing wrong; I take very good care of myself being only 17
TiffanyAngelina 3 years ago

Either get busy dying or get busy living!
bjordan53 3 years ago
yeah but It probably sucks for people who got it when they were older. I agree though
allovtheabove 3 years ago
Thats a little too extreme don't you think?
Scubadan223 3 years ago
Nope, like I said- I'm insensitive.
bjordan53 3 years ago
I completely agree in a way.. I hate when people just play the "poor me card" and try and turn all attention on them when reality is this is a disease lots and lots of people have in this world and yes it can be bad if you make it that way and yes it can be under control if only you try I am very understanding when it comes to brital diabetics having to go through it myself but I hate when people milk it with everything they got..
