We do not need to have a laptop to be distracted. Some of my students can get distracted when they do not even have the luxury of a one-to-one laptop. It is certainly a matter of being Principled and using technology at school towards the end it was developed for.
The IT team can limit the functionality of the laptops and/or block the access to social media websites, such as Facebook and Twitter. Non-educational sites can be made inaccessible. These are some of the technology limitations that the school where I teach has put in effect not long ago. Thinking outside the box, distractions are everywhere, so, we have to learn how to work with and around them...
Outstanding film! At least you're offered laptops there! We're not allowed laptops here until we reach IB/AS level at GES :( Btw I remember Christodoulou! He was at our school before he transferred (had enough of us I suppose :P ).
