Just saw this show in Belfast. It was an excellent production and great to hear the wonderful Justin Hayward sing live. Great show all round with a 30 ft Martian machine centre stage that shot flames towards the audience. I could feel the heat and I was sitting at the back of the hall.
@LaleMI6 i was at it too, me and my girlfriend had a great time, she had introduced it to me briefly a month or so ago, seeing the whole thing live was mind blowing. Justin Hayward has one of greatest voices iv heard.
so what's the deal with this dvd region stuff? I live in the US and I WANT this !!!! I bought the lp, yes, the lp, many years ago and was wildly impressed. GREAT STUFF!!!!!
going to see this in Dublin i in the O2 on Monday. IT'S GOING TO BE FRICKIN' EPIC!!! That is.. if the country doesn't collapse in on itself before then :/
Justin Hayward is one of the worlds best vocalist. WHY ARE THE MOODY BLUES NOT IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME? Someone.. please answer that question. Not only a great voice but he has written some of the best lyrics ever. I mean really... "A gentle rain falls gently on my weary eyes, as if to hide a lonely tear" Picturesque and beautiful. You rock Justin!
The greatest rock ballard, no question... oh and Andrew Lloyd Webber, if you are wondering how a great work of fiction should be interpreted into a musical then look and listen on and weep.
got turned on to the album summer semester oxford , brough it back home to california before it was released here and blew some minds . this is beautiful high level art , the best part of human nature .
What an amazing clip. I hadn't seen this before, encompassing so many facets of British talent and so many aspects of the English language. Prose from Wells spoken in Burton's unforgettable voice the poignancy of Wayne's lyrics, Haywood's magic and THAT band. What a pity it cuts out at the end.

and incase you younger ppl are wondering about the singer....YES he sings live and if you buy or listen to the ORIGINAL ALBUM.......it is the original singer from 1978
@djjimmym went to see w.o.t.w. in newcastle at the arena ,justin haywood sounds exactly the same,,,,, and Jason Donovon was excellent as the arillaryman
Moody Blues THE best band ever! Long live Justin Hayward and the Moody Blues! I still have there 8 tracks. What ever happened to Julie Covington the real Beth?
Justin loves this show of Jeff Wayne. Forever Autumn is not a Moody Blues song, although they sometimes sing it. Justin is perfect in this role and this
song. Jeff Wayne: I am angry with you that you are a New Yorker but won't tour The U.S. I told you at the official site and I will say it again. COME TO MEMPHIS WITH WOTC PLEASE
@fuzzrrr the singers are obviously miming you can see this easily,as for the rest of it is mimed as well it is identical with the album except the actors have sung their own parts but this has been added to the recording, you can see it all in the videos
@jokinaroun100 You are talking out of your ass m8. Have you seen one of these LIVE shows before? I have and it's not mimed by actor or musician. The band use a gizmo that plays in the background on a delay so if there is a problem like a string breaking or an instrument failing it cuts in and plays the part immediatly while they fix the problem.
If the Martians could now see what the earth has become, They'd probably say "Fuck it lads, they've got enough problems without us invading their shit!"
Always loved the songs and the ORIGINAL FILM!! remake is not even half as good!! Song has meant more since my dog died in the Autumn, and silly things like we liked to kiick the leaves along the way, dogs love that! Great songs like this can mean a lot to so many people in so many different ways.
Amazing - I loved this album, know every word and note by heart. I really REALLY wish they hadn't done the CGI of Richard Burton though - aside from being completely awful, it was just unnecessary. Having the voice would have been more than enough.
@planetjanet2 hardly a band... more like an orchestra which probably changes around quite a lot :) needless to say war of the worlds is still incredible and love to go see it this year when it comes to the UK again :)
I'm not against cover versions - I often prefer the cover to original - but this is one song that I think no one else could/should ever sing. I honestly believe I would probably laugh if I ever heard anyone else attempt this. It seems to me to be the most perfect marriage of artist and material.
@claimguy Original version by Justin Hayward ? Wrong. Jeff Wayne wrote the melody in 1969 for a Lego advert ! Gary Osbourne & Paul Vigrass wrote the jingle words but later they added the lyrics to the song and included it on their 1972 album `Queues` and released it as a single in Japan where it became a top 20 hit selling 100,000 copies.
So I guess what you meant to say is you like Justin Hayward`s 1978 cover version
@45rpmSINGLES The facts you mention are very interesting and well described...Keep in mind were all fans of this music, the singer, lyricist and composer in some capacity so maybe jump off the soapbox when furnishing us lesser mortals with your undeniably superior knowledge. The guy said what he meant to say he just wasn’t privy to all the facts. This can also be read as “nobody likes a smart arse”
@45rpmSINGLES I didn't say that Justin's version was the original. It's not a contest, is it? If anyone else tries this song after Justin's rendering, I think they are in for a critical shellacking. Of course, I don't think anyone will - that was my point.
@claimguy His version is the original, he was the singer on the original album.
as was the Voice of Man and atleast half the orchestra in this remaster.
this musical should've made a Hall Of Fame style list somewhere :)
It's an awesome piece of music from the Eve of the War to the final radio call to Nasa, and a chilling possibility of what could happen. It's also timeless in it's appeal.

As a heavy metal fan, this is prob the best Ballard I have ever heard! No one else but Justin Haywood could ever deliver the sound to the lyrics like he has Forever Autumn!
brencrow...my god! the hardest of times for you! and my heartfelt wishes go out to you! this song is just brilliant....and your song! I can not claim to know how you feel hun, but all of my wishes for your future happiness, I send to you!
Justin has wrote many songs, google them and you will see that he writes very beautiful songs, and sings them like an angel. He might not have wrote this one, but no one could have covered it like he did. It remains my most favorite song ever. And now that I lost my husband in fall, it will be special for me forever.
@KingKrunkmungas You are right, quantity will never replace quality, ever. The junk they turn out today, one or two exceptions here and there, is just mass produced garbage. It's all about the Money now. GREED personified !
I know. I'm sick of it, its just...sad. Money determines the music of today. And that will never change..its like we've lost true music forever. With exceptions of Enigma some of Coldplay and few other bands and of course Myself! :D
I went to the Irish leg of Jeff Wayne's 'The War of the Worlds' tour at the 02 in Dublin last year. It was very good, but there was a technical glitch at the start but to be honest it was really very small considering the size of the production as a whole.
I love this song, it's a great piece of music the way it flows along so effortlessly
@spindrifter2 Exactly, one of the greatest groups of talented musicians of all time. I put ELO and many of the 60's, 70's and 80's groups in this category. Every group or individual artist today, and I use the term artist very loosely, has very little if any true talent. It's all about the money !
Cardiff was awesome,i wish i hade gone both nights,i will next time, great production, and great effects,I wish i had got off my arse to see it years ago,

Justin has wrote many songs, google them and you will see that he writes very beautiful songs, and sings them like an angel. He might not have wrote this one, but no one could have covered it like he did. It remains my most favorite song ever. And now that I lost my husband in fall, it will be special for me forever.

Let me see...the Moody Blues did not write this song. Jeff Wayne did.

@KingKrunkmungas You are right, quantity will never replace quality, ever. The junk they turn out today, one or two exceptions here and there, is just mass produced garbage. It's all about the Money now. GREED personified !

@MRAMX390

What a classic! Brilliant, from a great long living group of musos. The great Moody Blues.
spindrifter2 2 years ago 7
@spindrifter2 Exactly, one of the greatest groups of talented musicians of all time. I put ELO and many of the 60's, 70's and 80's groups in this category. Every group or individual artist today, and I use the term artist very loosely, has very little if any true talent. It's all about the money !
MRAMX390 2 years ago
And after all these years they are still music for body mind and soul! Want to add Pink Floyd and Alan Parsons projekt among these great musicians

Burton did it so well on stage because at the filming he was dead. Carrie is Jeff Wayne's daughter.
