Wow, footage of my town taken in the year I was born. In some ways the place has drastically changed but in others it's relatively the same. Many thanks for sharing.
It's amazing seeing this footage. I would have been a 3 year old at this point and I used to work in Teesdale business estate until september. It's crazy that there's a sign with "Stockton xxxxx Unemployed".
Wonderful.. How saddening to see the predictable consequences of the pedestianisation programme, The dual carriageway was really quite good, even if it attracted the 'boy racers'.
Brilliant footage of a time remembered but thankfully not lost.
Please post the rest, and feel proud that your father did something special.
Interesting to see some of the scenes of Stockton from back then- about as far back as I can remember. No pedestrianised High Street, no built-over John Walker Square, factories across the river (must have all been demolished by part 2)...
This is outstanding footage of parts of Stockton, even my old school, Tillery Juniors is on here. The footage of the riverside is particularly significant as it shows the wasteland land that Margaret Thatcher did her walk in the wilderness on, now it is crammed packed with commerce buildings including a college and Durham University.
@leemouse There dosn't seem to be too much wasteland by this point- just a patch. In part two the wasteland seems to have gotten much bigger and half those factories are gone...
@stocktonvideos
Do you have anymore old footage of Stockton?

By the way... where are parts 3-5 that you were promising months ago? I'm still waiting...

@Ow3n86 They're not getting rid of the market, just trying to get it put into fixed stalls. The market traders still don't like it.

The only good view of Stockton is the view of it in your rear view mirror
