How freakin' cute!!! I know what you mean xrayman. Both my pugs love water but my boy spent two out of his four years on a floatie beside me in the pool. Once I got my girl a little over a year ago, we take them on the boat (in shallow water) an she swims like a star! We've kept her swimming in the hopes the will stay strong enough to always swim. The best part--now my boy tries to either save her or compete with her so now he's getting there :o) He still goes ass first after about a foot :o)

My other Pug is pretty small and she won't have anything to do with the water either. She can save herself if she falls in but that's about it. I can't keep my first one out of the pool all thru the spring and summer.

Thank you for your kind words and comments regarding Pug-in-a-Pool 2. If you notice under the comments section you will see my statements regarding Pugs and pool safety. Like children, pets cannot 'ever' be left unsupervised in, around our near 'any' body of water, including backyard pools. True, most pugs are not swimmers and must be kept safe at all times. Unfortunately, dogs don't always understand their limitations and it's our responsibility to care and protect our little friends !

That is a very cute pug and she is a good swimmer, but people should know, most pugs cannot swim. They have a very heavy body and tiny legs, they are not built like most dogs. Please everyone keep your pugs safe and away from the pool.

Thank you for this info about pugs, my pug cannot swim but likes to ride around in her "boat" fully supervised by several family members,our pool is fenced otherwise, and she is never outdoors alone. She wanted to try to swim but was unable. I understand why now.This video is so funny! I love it!

Of course she knows how to get out. That was the motivaton of letting the dog swim, so if she ever fell in (which happens in florida all the time) ...she could safely get out. Dogs drown in Florida because owners don't take the time to teach them where the steps are !

Never knew pugs could swim. This is nice to watch. How do you train him?

At first we tried using treats but, more than anything she loves to play fetch. We held her in our arms and gradually let her swim short distances to the steps. Using praise and treats we coaxed her back in the water on a daily basis. She loves to be around people and soon we found her leaping onto the float just to be near us. She now swims frequently on her own just to cool off on hot days.
