  • ah, I get it.

  • I saw this at the midnight movies in 1972.

I had forgot what the title was. Freaky stuff

  • FUCK YOU REDDIT

  • Pixies' Doolittle album brought me here!

  • dafuq is this?

  • ...wut

  • WEIRDEST FILM EVER!!!! beats Eraserhead for sure!

  • @ledhicks it's better than eraserhead also

  • I'm not going to sleep for weeks....

  • this is better with no sound

  • The video is somewhat cut (there are succession of cutting that are missing), so if you are studying this movie and you want to have a quick reference from this upload, better not - borrow a copy from your library

And the original music is creating such a different mood - I mean A. Thiher says that the original score confers it a pseudo-meaning (which is what Dali and Bunuel, Surrealists, were all about), while this music appoints real meanings (the siren/the eye, the crowd/the ants)

  • @miniioana Good points!

  • My mind is full of fuck.

  • wanna grow up to be... be a debaser!

  • Men back then sure knew how to wear a suit.

  • I spend $97,000 dollars on film school just to be told I should mimic this in every film I make in my film career.

  • @neocon70 Are you serious?

  • Shite soundtrack. Watch with the sound off.

  • I think I prefer the original music.

  • Uui das ist doch aus dem Screening heute....

  • How did I even get here, and why am I watching this?

  • This is like The Beatles' "Revolution No. 9" in video form. Highly disturbing...

  • i don't know what the fuck is going on

  • Pixies "Debaser"

  • 7 days...

  • There's no music?

  • omg wat

  • the meaningless of existence.

  • what the fuck is this about.. i dont get it

  • Where's the audio from?

  • @ephemerealfox "Original electroacustic soundtrack by Cristiano Melli for Buñuel and Dalí's 1929 silent movie "Un Chien Andalou", finished on April 17, 2009.

  • @Didgebaba thank you. v atmospheric piece, adds darker undertones to the piece compared to the original score which gave the film a more comically surreal feel I thought. Always preferred viewing it silent

  • is this the original music score?

  • @kazamakooza Nope: "Original electroacustic soundtrack by Cristiano Melli for Buñuel and Dalí's 1929 silent movie "Un Chien Andalou", finished on April 17, 2009.

  • 1:20 roberto benigni :D

  • Well, now I know where the silence of the Lambs got that moth idea from,.

  • Maybe its not up to us to decide, whatever this may mean, I just can find pretty obvious things in the critic on the church (the two monks) holding back the guy with his sexual desires.

And the end is in my intention about dying relationships, that where beautiful one day.

But everybody may find his own reasons and explanations...

  • @lourian4 it looked like a vermeer so I googled it and the answer is in the IMDB article.

  • God, I can just see the director hopping around the background going "ASK ME WHAT THIS MEANS! ASK ME WHAT THIS MEANS!"

  • @JoeCoolFreeman It isn't supposed to mean anything. And try to be original.

  • @terepotere Sorry, but when I heard the Nostalgia Critic do that, this was the first movie that came to mind.

  • @JoeCoolFreeman I understand. But this movie isn't trying to make sense, it's inexplicably weird on purpose. Think of it as a dream.

  • Damn... I want to grow up to be a debaser.

  • My mind. Ouch. I am now Autistic.

  • can anyone explain why the book stays open at 01:57 ? what they want to show with this picture?

  • Has anyone else noticed the moth/mouth sequence resembles the cover art for silence of the lambs?

  • @nocountryforedtom its based on a lot of the images Dali made. The poster for Silence has a deathshead moth on top of both Hannibal and Starling's mouth, but if you look closer the "skull" on the moth is actually a piece by Dali, of an optical illusion.

  • Thumbs up if you understand the song Debaser by the Pixies now.

  • Got me a movie, I want you to know slicing up eyeballs I want you to know Girlie so groovy I want you to know Don't know about you but I am un chien andalusia wanna grow up to be be a debaser, debaser!
  • amazing

  • Warning: Don't watch eye-slicing part if you're eating cherry cordials!

  • When Dali appear?

  • @TaZiey17 at 7:40 he is the one on the right.

  • I think I replayed that eye-slicing part like, a million times because it's just so fake XDD

  • @urmomicous they used a cow's eye

  • the guy who grabs the chick's tits is actually kinda hot

  • The exam question = Please explain what the actual fuck, you just watched?

  • @D1llsta A masterpiece. A fucking +.

  • I dont even get what any of this was supposed to mean. Can anyone explain this? Cuz Im not getting it...

  • @Nufalak Well.. I stand corrected.. but we had to watch this in English class today x: It's not entirely supposed to mean anything .. like there's the image of the clouds cutting through the mood like the blade cuts the eye and so on...

but I think surrealism is about messing with your emotions.. like one minute I was curious/then disgusted/confused and so on.. I don't think this helped much but yeahh..

  • woooow.

  • 13:10 made me LMAO, I want you to know

  • I thought Un Chein Andalou was Federico Garcia Lorca

  • @Didgebaba i read in an introduction to poet in new york that lorca thought that andalusian dog was directed towards him, as buñuel and dalí had some kind of falling out with him, along the lines of thinking gypsy ballads sucked.

  • @dustyneu1 It may have had something to do with Lorca being gay. Dali said that while he worshiped Lorca, he never 'succumb' to him. Dali was a Catholic mystic and Bunuel was a genius/maniac. The three qualities may not mix so well.

  • @Didgebaba where is the 2nd part ?

  • I think I am un chien andalousian

  • charlie sheen is winning at 04:23.

  • @LeeWannerMusic Holy shit I thought you were just being obnoxious but the guy on the left is definitely charlie sheen in a bitchin top hat

  • @LeeWannerMusic how on earth did you notice that?

  • It makes perfect sense if you watch it while listening to Doolittle by the Pixies.

  • intriguing...

  • be careful posting this, i got a copyright notice for this. good luck..

  • I uploaded the HD version.

  • My right eye had a severe infection in it a few years ago. It's recovered now. But when I saw this in my Film Appreciation class, after that bit with the eye..I felt the most intense pain in my right eye. It was throbbing even AFTER the film was over. Fucking mindfuck, man.

  • Watched this in a film studies class...cinematic mind-fuck.

  • @2deeley Luis Buñuel is the master of the cinematic mind-fuck.

  • @Didgebaba mehhh - you forget david lynch

  • @2deeley Lynch is the successor par excellence; Lost Highway bent my mind. Twin Peaks was what me and my group of like-minded seekers gathered around once a week when it first screened....

  • The audio done by Cristiano Melli I uploaded it here when Google Video was shutting down and removing content. Cristiano writes:

"Original electroacustic soundtrack by Cristiano Melli for Buñuel and Dalí's 1929 silent movie "Un Chien Andalou", finished on April 17, 2009. All were fished from internet, in love with Barcelone and wagneristic green houses. From this side of equator, the left side of the map, warm and red neighbor of my left shoulder, colombisticaly crossing the ocean"

  • and apparently other various sound effects

  • what is the audio on this version, I know that there should be classical music in the background ( richard wagner) but all versions that I can find with the music have poor picture quality-contrast too bright. This version with it sounds like an audience is the only 1 I can find with decent picture quality

  • creepy
