The video is somewhat cut (there are succession of cutting that are missing), so if you are studying this movie and you want to have a quick reference from this upload, better not - borrow a copy from your library
And the original music is creating such a different mood - I mean A. Thiher says that the original score confers it a pseudo-meaning (which is what Dali and Bunuel, Surrealists, were all about), while this music appoints real meanings (the siren/the eye, the crowd/the ants)
@Didgebaba thank you. v atmospheric piece, adds darker undertones to the piece compared to the original score which gave the film a more comically surreal feel I thought. Always preferred viewing it silent
@kazamakooza Nope: "Original electroacustic soundtrack by Cristiano Melli for Buñuel and Dalí's 1929 silent movie "Un Chien Andalou", finished on April 17, 2009.
Maybe its not up to us to decide, whatever this may mean, I just can find pretty obvious things in the critic on the church (the two monks) holding back the guy with his sexual desires.
And the end is in my intention about dying relationships, that where beautiful one day.
But everybody may find his own reasons and explanations...
@nocountryforedtom its based on a lot of the images Dali made. The poster for Silence has a deathshead moth on top of both Hannibal and Starling's mouth, but if you look closer the "skull" on the moth is actually a piece by Dali, of an optical illusion.
Got me a movie, I want you to know slicing up eyeballs I want you to know Girlie so groovy I want you to know Don't know about you but I am un chien andalusia wanna grow up to be be a debaser, debaser!
@Nufalak Well.. I stand corrected.. but we had to watch this in English class today x: It's not entirely supposed to mean anything .. like there's the image of the clouds cutting through the mood like the blade cuts the eye and so on...
but I think surrealism is about messing with your emotions.. like one minute I was curious/then disgusted/confused and so on.. I don't think this helped much but yeahh..
@Didgebaba i read in an introduction to poet in new york that lorca thought that andalusian dog was directed towards him, as buñuel and dalí had some kind of falling out with him, along the lines of thinking gypsy ballads sucked.
@dustyneu1 It may have had something to do with Lorca being gay. Dali said that while he worshiped Lorca, he never 'succumb' to him. Dali was a Catholic mystic and Bunuel was a genius/maniac. The three qualities may not mix so well.
My right eye had a severe infection in it a few years ago. It's recovered now. But when I saw this in my Film Appreciation class, after that bit with the eye..I felt the most intense pain in my right eye. It was throbbing even AFTER the film was over. Fucking mindfuck, man.
@2deeley Lynch is the successor par excellence; Lost Highway bent my mind. Twin Peaks was what me and my group of like-minded seekers gathered around once a week when it first screened....
The audio done by Cristiano Melli I uploaded it here when Google Video was shutting down and removing content. Cristiano writes:
"Original electroacustic soundtrack by Cristiano Melli for Buñuel and Dalí's 1929 silent movie "Un Chien Andalou", finished on April 17, 2009. All were fished from internet, in love with Barcelone and wagneristic green houses. From this side of equator, the left side of the map, warm and red neighbor of my left shoulder, colombisticaly crossing the ocean"
what is the audio on this version, I know that there should be classical music in the background ( richard wagner) but all versions that I can find with the music have poor picture quality-contrast too bright. This version with it sounds like an audience is the only 1 I can find with decent picture quality
