Fusion would use hydrogen (which is abundant) and would be safer than fission and producing more energy. There is only one problem, and that is - where to hold that material while in fusion process? If anyone says the steel housing encasing the core is impervious, that's not true, obviously. Heat is the issue. The material strength drops off a cliff if temperatures are high enough. I believe all of the reactors are compromised. Also, the fuel rods do not work if we have a full meltdown, meaning, the reaction will not be slowed down in the conventional way. Trying to cool it with water is only going to cause a steam explosion, thus blowing that radiation sky high...kinda like that ^

The people around the plant up to the areas where the expolsions gas can reach should be quarantined to that area. Along with that, no one should be allowed to enter or leave Japan for safety reasons. Yes it's great you want to help but there is nothing anyone can do really. They are lost causes truly. There are some 450 reactors in the world. 3 have "gone off". If there were 450 cars in the world, how would you feel?

@IExposeMormonism Wait a minute there are 4 reactors that have melted down or are in the process of melting down in Fukushima alone and the first ever MOX fueled reactor. So how do you come up with "3 have gone off?"
MOX is thousands of time more dangerous that Uranium fuel. If much of Japan doesnt end up unihabitable and the ongoing health effects dont cripple the country they will be very lucky.

@ChrisPCrunchy 3 have exploded, maybe more now. There are also 2 or more in the area in danger...Point is, if there were 450 cars in the world and 1/150 were going to pop, how much would you want a car? I think we need better toys....

If anyone says the steel housing encasing the core is impervious, that's not true, obviously. Heat is the issue. The material strength drops off a cliff if temperatures are high enough. I believe all of the reactors are compromised. Also, the fuel rods do not work if we have a full meltdown, meaning, the reaction will not be slowed down in the conventional way. Trying to cool it with water is only going to cause a steam explosion, thus blowing that radiation sky high...kinda like that ^

@MrOnslaughtJapan Typical stupid j-male. It was the japanese engineers who wanted to do things their way when these reactors were built. All the fault lies at the feet of the japanese who did a very poor job of wanting these facilities built to their own faulty specifications.
Nobody's fault but the japanese.
