  • I'm going to Hawaii and I'll surf there hopefully I'll also catch my first wave

  • im going to myrtle beach this summer,

hope i catch my first wave...wish me luck! :)

  • Most people learn on shortboards i think people should learn on a shortboard i learned on it and i got better everytime :)

  • i thought you were supposed to start on a longboard?

  • i started to surf on a bunch of penguins, and now im pro. nothing is impossible u can try starting on some penguins if u want to.

  • I just started on a shortboard, after about 2 months out there i got the hang of it.. Lemme just give beginners a word of advice if you're gonna start on shortboard be ready to look stupid and not catch any waves for weeks out there. Cause above all its not riding the wave with the shortboard thats hard it's catching waves that is hard! The paddling is a bitch

  • i have started on a gun

  • I am newbie but i can't surf on a beginner board it's too difficult but things changed when surfed on a short board it's just amazing

  • @elserver593 What about balance? Idk, I need to get a board but I'm confused what to get. Refusing to get a beginner's board though.

  • @GlooStix Why don't you try with a gun board?

  • @elserver593 You think I could do it? I've gone surfing, but on an 11'4" Naish a couple weeks ago and made all the waves.

  • @GlooStix Yeah, I emailed a surf shop and they said the have a used soft longboard that they could give me for $75 that's "a little beat up". You think I should take it? Where I live, good waves are on windy days, and I hope it doesn't fly a lot....

  • @GlooStix

I'm not a professional i have surfed 4 times in my life i bought a shortboard 5''9'. It's awesome, but dude i think surf is for have fun and you have to feel comfortable with your surf board that's why i bought that shortboard

    Good waves for this summer!

  • @elserver593 I like your way of thinking! I just thought shortboards are really hard to balance on and paddle, though---at least for beginners.

  • @GlooStix Yes but i have an epoxy shortboard and it's easy to balance!

  • @GlooStix get a long board or a fish

  • lesson 2 and we stil hant left the freakin shop... really?

  • Did you cover this in lesson 1

  • nice flaming surfboard(the third basic board)

  • What is the name of the song played during the intro?

  • longboard. one tail. classic. Hawaiian style. That is IT.

  • is it easier for beginners to learn to surf on a long bored with 3 fins or that little blue bored he showed?

  • @funnystar16 its easier on the one he showed but u can also use a long board

  • @funnystar16 I'm totally shooting for the long...

  • whooooooooo getting surfing lessons in three weeks who wants to come 1st wave surf school :p

  • Lost= best surfboards ever

    screw ocean/earth

  • lol

  • didn't i just watch this?

  • @TheMadzymoo it was the same things repeated as the first lesson said

  • actually, older style surfboards tend to have only one fin but they are harder to ride for begginers

  • im 13 and i use a miini mailbu.. i think. its a 7'3'' board and im 5'5''

  • yo im15 and 6'1 wat kind of board should i get??

  • @18LUNATiiK18 i'm 15 and 6'2, i use a mini malibu

  • @WhiteboyTrey2 i think i shud get a short board?? cuz my surf shop dnt hav mini malibus

  • try with a mini malibu and after take a shortboard ^^

  • i gotta superfish 7s , best begginer board

  • my problem is i started on a shortboard that is about 2 heads taller to me...ich shouldve got a beginners board....is that bad??

  • dont say raqdical radical is for brazilians (copycat americans

  • Comment removed

  • @victorhugomuzi who cares at least anyone can use gnarly

  • this video is radical!!!

  • these bloody advertisment filled videos waste alot of downloads cause half of it is shit

  • good stuff 4 beginners !!

  • whats the intro song?

  • Your comment is annoying! fucking spunger!!!

  • Heyy, i normally bodyboard, but i want abit of a change? haha...

My older brother has a 7'4 surfboard, which from research i thought was a funboard... but now i think it might be a gun? its 7'4 and it says somethings like 7'4 1/2 x 19 3/4' x 2?

Is this a decent board to learn on?

  • If u want to buy a Big Surfboard try MC Surfboards in Byron Bay.They make Surfboard shapes in big sizes for bigger guys. And Michael and toshie are really nice people to Deal with too.

  • A funboard is the best way to go the 7'6 nsp funboard is the best one to buy i started yester day and i am standing up and cathching every wave i go for

and those begginer boards look really small for starting off with

  • i just got the 7'10 NSp funboard. i've surfed b4 but this is my first one. i am going tmr mornig so i'll see how it is

  • not sure that a beginner board is such a great investment. Wont take long before you'd need to upgrade. Mini-mal is the way to go.

  • or gun surfboard right away

  • In other words dont buy that crap they are pushing either.

  • i dont know how to start like eveything is so expensive and im a begginer any advice on a cheap begginers board or where to get one?

  • used, they are everywhere. NEver buy a new board to learn on.

  • Like urTimesup says a second hand is preferably the best if u want to stick on a low budget.

HOWEVER, the right board for you depends on your lenght and weight. Tho a Mini malibu is most recommended for beginners (differing for size 7"2 up to 7"10 depending on your lenght and weight. )

  • look online, on craigslist or something like that for a used one, you don't wan't to spend too much on your first board just in case it's not right for you. go to a surf shop and ask advice on size and shape then look for a used one.

  • I was told by a master surfer that a beginner should get a 8 - 12 foot long board. The guy in this video shows very short boards and says they are for advanced surfers...yet he pulls out the SHORTEST board and says this is a for a beginner???

  • yeah but the board he pulled out is thik as so it will be easy to catch a wave and stay stable but yeah it is abit short lol

  • There is more to it than just length mate. You need to take into consideration width and thickness which all contribute to stable buoyancy. So why a longboard/malibu is typically used for beginners is because it has width, thickness and length for great stability. The mini-malibu has the same properties with less length which is what makes it slightly more responsive.

  • The beginner board is also made with different materials and engineered to be very buoyant with less board. The idea is to get you surfing immediately with less worries.

Next if that "master" wasn't either Kelly Slater, Laird Hamilton or such ranked guys then he my friend is no master. ;)

  • Most people do learn on longer boards but since he's talking about soft foam boards they will still be easy to learn on regardless of length. Larger boards are a lot easier to paddle and stand up on when you are new to surfing.

  • this is also true

  • i can't stand on my soft top 8'

i can get to my knees but thats as high i can get.

  • most ppl learn with shorboards.

  • really? almost every person i've seen trying to learn has used a longer board because they're more stable and boyant and then move on to shorter move maneuverable boards. i've rarely seen it done the other way.

  • i started surfing on a shortboard when i was 10 now im 16 and im a pro. nothing is impossible u can try starting on a shortboard if u want to.

  • @azchoman yeah dude... i started with skimmin and wakeboarding... anyone can surf... i started in high school and a shortboard or mini mao would be a great board for beginners

  • @paolokonst cool cool.

  • @azchoman yo dude im 13 and 5ft11

what type of board should i get and like the height of the board i wanna learn to surf and i have very good acces to beaches

  • @ARMYSTRENGTHxbl an easy board to stand up on is about a 9' longboard.

  • @azchoman Does it help if your a skater?

  • @xXKR3WSK8ERRXx I found it pretty easy to pick up and im not the greatest skater I skate maybe 1 or 2 times a week at the park

  • Comment removed

  • @azchoman thats wat im going to do! thanx :)

  • @azchoman is it hard or did u just get used too it ?

  • @LetsGo2PlanB ummm yeah...@first it was hard. pretty much, but u just keep ur hopes up and continue trying and u will be able to do it afterwards.

  • @azchoman is it harder to surf on a short board?

  • @azchoman i started on ya mum

  • @azchoman so your pro and your watching this video? ya keep dreamin buddy

  • @azchoman ur probably a kook

  • its crocodile dundee

  • that guy has the strangest accent ever lol

  • i had a custom 6'0" for my first board on my b'day and havnt caught a wave on it yet. went out on my dads minimal caught first wave staright away.

  • ok guys i really need some advice about what board should i buy. By the way i've done sk8 four couples of years. is it going to help on the balance?

  • It may, Ive been surfing since i was 3 and usually it wont matter too much but just practice and right teqnique is the most importatn thing

  • screw that im getting a 6'4" Channel island flyer surfboard 4 my first board

  • stick to long boards to learn

I got me a 9'6" for a first board and I'm not regretting it, been catching waves since day one!

Will move down to a smaller board in about a year :)

  • ya i gues. im not exactly a begginer im more of a begener intermediate. i learned on a funboard. then i use a 6'6" fish right now

  • I totally agree with you ive got a 6'1 shortboard now its great. If you begin on a mal after that you have to start on a shortboard because there totally differet boards mals are easier to stand up on and shortboards arnt do you no what i mean?

  • ya but i just took a trip 2 california and i used my fish i used a 5' soft shortboard and i got a channel island/al merrik flyer 4'3" and i was shredding i almost landed a floater

  • I learned on a 5' 11" shortboard. Not bad but longboards are much easier and can be more fun. But shortboards are faster and much more manuverable, which can ber ahrd if you're not used to balancing on the boards yet.

  • Im gunna get a short board and a hybrid board
