Ask to speak to a supervisor... NO, you do NOT want to pay 150$ to get it fixed. Tell them to release a FIRMWARE FIX. If they get upset or hang up on you, call back & start over.

After hearing all the news about this obvious swindle of a bricking update, i'm now going to sell off my 40 gb ps3 while it's still in good health. I haven't had a chance to update it any during the year I bought it except for when I bought GTA 4. Just when I was about to have internet speeds that would be capable of doing anything with my PS3.

wow from the sounds of it this effected everyone pretty much, but i just updated today and i put uncharted 2 in it started installing the firmware update then the disc read and said an error occured, so i pressed ok then loaded the game again and it worked and i was playing on it for about 4 hours on other games aswell

well i bought the slim not because i want it, or want to keep it. Its just that i have no system and i bought it, i'll play it, and i'll return it in 30 days to get all my money back

hey chadshadow, why did you record your update? It's great and all, but you lost a PS3. I'm sure you were kind of aware of all the problems people were having with it. I for one am one affected by this "blueray reading error" problem.

What motivated you to record this? or even update it to 3.01 for that matter?

i always record the updates just in case, it been a habit for me. as for getting it fix im waiting on the next firmware, to see what happens.

yea me too, apparently rumor has it, one will be out before oct 30. Also Sony Australia is not fixing all the consoles with YLOD and blu ray (firmware) problems for free. Lets hope Sony USA owns up to their mistake.

In the mean time, do what i do. I bought a new slim (which freezes sometimes, after 3.01 update), and using it as a free 30 day trail, and then im refunding it. I'll keep doing it, until my ps3 is fixed. fuck sony!

not slim, ps3 fat, but it wass in the system at the time of update.

why do you think having the game inside causes the system to brick?

also, i think this update only bricked ps3 fats because the models were old, this update only seems to work on the ps3 slim models.

I actually did and the errors are still there, cant play games, blue ray or my ps2 games. I call up sony and spoke to them about it, as soon as i mention about it, he ask me by any chance was it on a original 40,60, or 80 model, I said yeah he then reply yeah you going to have to send it in we cant fix that issue over the phone. O.o i was kinda curious why he ask if it happen on a older model, he would not acknowledge on it and just said send that one to us so we can replace it.

I can assure you all that firmware 3.01 is 100% alright.

it work fine for me, i download the firmware from a usb thumb drive its much safer and it installed less than 2 or 3 min without any problems.

Firmware 3.01 works fine on my PS3. I updated via internet as well. It took a long time to download and install it. Something like 30-45 minutes. Maybe it's my connection I don't know. I have a WiFi connection.

Idk but why does your ps3 when updating skips from 70%+ then go to 100% mine never does that. MAYBE that causes the problem because mine never jumps a percentage when upgrading or downloading update..

nah the sound you hear in the back ground is the ac, power fan blower and air cleaning fan not the ps3. was having a hard time keeping still holding my cam and recording though :(

I installed firmware 3.01 and with a game disc inside. It works fine. Tested the game which works fine as well. BTW, I'm typing this on my PS3.
