this is the second time they did a hendrix cover that became a whole lot unlike the original. hear their bizarrely minimalist "foxy lady" on "three imaginary boys"
love this version.everyone of you can fuck off with your negative opinions.jimi was a huge musical influence for robert.and no you don't have to be goth to like this band.if you don't like them don't listen.
@MyMrMinty What did you expect? It's not like they can be Jimi and do it like him. I think that the other tributes on this album are much better then this one.
Alright, let's put some of the naysayers at ease and give the suitors a break because I think we're all missing a common point: TRIBUTE. This is a tribute album and because of that, every act is doing a "version" true to their OWN SOUND. I was impressed by what The Cure did here, even morphing some of Hendrix's voice into the background, coming across almost as though he was on stage next to Smith. You wouldn't want to perform the same cover or it's just the same song. What's the point? Right?
I reckon this is the worst cover I've ever heard, with the possible exception of Michael Jackson's Come Together. You don't take a joyous song like Purple Haze and turn it into mopey shit. This is why only goths can take The Cure seriously.
You don't make "Purple Haze" into a fuckin' rap song! you just don't! the mere thought of it makes me want to puke! it's like converting a Rolls Royce into a Volkswagon...
The Cure were always a vestigial stoner band, good to see the influences worn more proudly here. This and their psychedelic Doors cover are among the best Cure songs of the 90's, no doubt
I remeber the first time I heard this...getting off the 2 the freeway in LA. Took me at least 90 seconds to realize it was the Cure..... sounds like Godzilla against Captain Kirk.
Badass. I've been trying to find the entire song and here it is. If the Copyright Comrade Stalins take it down, please repost so everyone can enjoy the great vibes.
i listened to kroQ through the mid '80s to early '90s. i stopped around '91. something happened to them. they got a woman d.j. (i have nothing against women), but the whole type of music they started playing changed, (or was it me just getting older?) i still went to "the arena" and really fell in love with electronica music. then i found, GROOVE RADIO at 103.1, owned and oporated by none other than "Sweedish Eagle"!!!! and if you thought KROQ was bad, Nothing could compare to groove. ...
Cure...<3

I think Jimi would have dug this version, that was brilliant!

Yngwie Malmsteen called this "blasphemy" in 1994. I don't agree with him even though this isn't really my cup of tea.

Despite what some of you have written, I am pretty sure Jimi would approve.
