@IGIPNP Thanks for uploading this. I have played and loved Dead Space 1 and 2 but couldn't play Dead Space extraction due to it being available only on Wii and PS3 later on so I am watching this entire walkthrough for the storyline.
@chaaarrrliiieee Actually, this was something that was brought up originally with DS 1. In that game, there was no fire in space and the Flamethrower wasn't allowed to work in deoxygenated environments. By Extraction, the developers realized (or were told over and over again by fans) that it's perfectly possible to have fire in space (e.g. our Sun) so long as there are enough combustible elements. Since then, the Flamethrower has been assumed to contain the necessary fuel.
@IGIPNP Hm. It just doesn't make sense to me, since there is no oxygen in space for the fire to react with, making it fire. Personally, I wouldn't necessarily say the Sun is fire, but a mass of Hydrogen and other gasses (didn't pay much attention in Earth/Space Science). Those gasses need Oxygen in order to be 'fire', right? I.e., put a glass jar over a candle, the candle goes out; Take it off, flame comes back.
@chaaarrrliiieee Whether or not the sun is technically fire or sustains its reactions without oxygen, it's still hot and can destroy organic matter with its heat.
Also, making the Flamethrower work in space (or underwater, to give a more realistic example) is as simple as providing all the necessary gasses for combustion in a fuel tank and then propelling them through a nozzle with a starter flame, spark, or heat source.
@chaaarrrliiieee I'm not 100% sure, but I think water puts out fire by smothering its source of oxygen (same way that sand and heavy blankets can put out fire). If the water isn't sufficient to snuff out the oxygen or whatever other accelerant there is, then the water won't put out the fire. IIRC, this is why water can't be used for every type of fire and why fire extinguishers aren't just full of water. Sometimes, water isn't enough or even acts as a reactant itself.
@watch50er Yeah, it's like one of the only emotionally charged lines in the game that comes off as truly effective (in my opinion, anyways). I still wonder how the voice actor did that line so intensely well.
Best line ever. Why? Because every other protagonist in every other survival horror is far too calm during the ordeal. Seriously, if I had to cut off my own arm, I'd be screaming that too.
I agree. Sometimes actors miss the boat when it comes to that emotional of a performance (my only real complaint about Heather Morris in Silent Hill 3) Joseph May is obviously very talented.
Yeah. Not going to lie; Nate's become my favourite character in the series (I like him more than Isaac even though Isaac is pretty awesome as well) so I'm bummed that he died.
I mean, until DS2 we really couldn't sympathize too much with Isaac since he never spoke. Hammond was just shouting orders, Kendra was a bitch, Nicole was a ghost, Dr. Mercer was an ass, Dr. Kyne was nuts, Weller was a prick, there was always something off about Eckhart, Lexine was always getting into trouble and needing saving, and everyone else got about five minutes of screen time before biting the dust. I felt a little bad for Sam, but otherwise yeah, Nate all the way.
@ururugi Yeah, I forgot about Sam. Too bad he went insane and died after his fifteen minutes of fame as he also could have been an interesting character to follow.
@XxElement323xX I wouldn't really say it's luck as it relies on a specific strategy throughout the Chapter: 1. Grab Pulse Rifle ammunition. 2. Don't waste that ammunition. 3. Make sure to have the Pulse Rifle ready to use for the boss fight.

I thought there's no fire in space? Dx Being that it was originally a Wii game, I guess it's safe to say: Nintendo logic.

Really? This makes me wonder how water puts out fire. I never thought of that. o:

@sperznaz586 Personally, I think the near-vaginal "mouth" of the creature is more unsettling than the tentacles.

I can't believe you have to cut your own arm off.

Do you know what happens when you don't shoot the weak spots when its "penis" thing covers you? Do you get swallowed or what?
Bonizailum 6 months ago
@Bonizailum The spots explode and dump acid on you, which damages you slightly.

@graystone23 If he was quick to airlock in the first place, all of this could have been completely avoided.
Furthermore, as some others noted, he COULD have just destroyed the spike instead of doing what he actually did. Guess he just panicked.
