I just came back from Wildwood, New Jersey seeing the Capris at the Wildwood Convention Center. Of course they were very good, but I was extremely disappointed that they did not mention Nick at all....After all he wrote the Morse Code of Love...and he was wonderful!! WHY was his name not mentioned.?
Great song. I like phantom titles. But I don't get the line "I thought that you would understand I'm not a one woman man." That would not make me come running to you if I were a chick. "You're going to run around with all these other chicks while you are with me? Oh that's all right."
At shows when they did sound checks, or sang in the hallways backstage, Nick Santo had everybody's attention. The only other performer that I saw that could stop everything was Lee Andrews. The world is a sadder place without Mr.Santo and of course Mr.Maestro. ......I will never go to the rock and roll of fame unless Johnny gets in, his first recording was 1956 and he performed right until the end !!
In 1982 the "Ambient sound" series was released, consisting of 3 record albums:by the Mystics, Capris and Randy and the Rainbows. This song first appeared on the Capris album from that "Ambient sound" series.I have the one by the Mystics, my best friend has the one by Randy and the Rainbows and we never dreamed that the Capris album would be the best of the three!(And that`s saying a lot because the Mystics album is great!)
I am also a big fan of the Morse Code of Love and can't find it on I tunes to download to my ipod. I can get the Manhatten Transfer but not by the Capri's. Anyone have any success in finding it on itunes??
Does anybody know what happened to Tommy Ferrara the bass singer. He was in the Del Satins and he's the brother of Fred Ferrara of the Brooklyn Bridge.
Hope that Nick is feeling better, I understand he had to retire from singing. He had a great voice and style, The Capris just regrouped with a new lead.
@hollies65 Totally agree with you. Love this song. Like you it does not matter to me when it was finished or recorded. Great job by Nick and the group.
Such a great song. If this was finished when it was started ('60) instead of th early 80's, it would be one of the classics (and it is to me). Doo Wop's best !
Good Lord!...are there only three of us who know how special these guys are? Look at how nicely they dress (thank you Capris...)...you dress...you sing...you do everything as it should be done from our era...God bless all of you...
Nick recently had a lung removed and is recovering weel thank God. The Capris have been around since I was in High School and I graduated in 1963. I was a Queens guy and knew Nick before he became an NYPD Officer in 1966.
I wish more great music like this was out there these days. Now they try to force GOLD TOOTHED MORONS ASTHAMA attacks down our throats and call it rap - and they even spell it wrong, its CRAP... BUT DOO WOP, THATS REAL MUSIC.
Love the harmonization in the vocals, and the syncapation. GREAT VID...
Here's a group out of Queens, NY who in 1958 recorded "There's A Moon Out Tonight" that failed to chart until 3 years later when it would resurface and reach the # 3 spot on the billboard charts. Twenty-one years later would once again create this monster of a hit you are now hearing and regain their status as a modern doo-wop group led by Nick Santamaria. It just proves that rock 'n roll will never die and may it live on so that many other generations to come will enjoy this fantastic music!!
@mygoldta Look at some of the other posts, and examine the other postings of this song, and you'll see it was completed around 1982 or thereabouts. In a youtube performance (perhaps Nick's last) where this song is sung, he talks about starting it back in the day, having the bass intro and a line of lyric, and finishing it in the 80's when the album "There's a Moon Out Again" was recorded. Sorry, but it's a newer song written in a Doo Wop style.
@ragdollfan I HAVE TO SAY I WAS WRONG ABOUT THE SONG I RECORDED IT YRS AGO FROM AN OLDIES SHOW ON THE RADIO ...IT DOES SOUND LIKE FROM THE 50S OR THE 60S 1982 I WOULDVE NEVER THOUGHT ........LMFAO
One of the best songs and group ever. A real class act. Wish I could send Nick a quick email and hope he is recovering OK. If any one knows how to contact him please let me know. I'm a fellow New Yorker raised and brought up with Doo-Wop.

I'd like to see the Kiwi icon himself Graham Brazier legendary lead singer of HELLO SAILOR perform the Doo-Wops. THE BRAZZ MAN still has his pipes and my man can chime!
I watched all these shows on PBS. Although I was on the younger end in the 50's, I remember most of the big hits. I liked music then, at a young age but didn't know how to access it but from AM radio. I grew up in Newark,NJ, an area close to NY where a lot of Italian/American goups were from. Long Live DOO WOP
I am kind of surprised that the Brits and Aussies really like Doo Wop! I grew up singing on the Street Corners in N.J.
Sad to say that Nick Santamaria, lead singer of the Capri's has been very ill and I think he lost a lung. One of his last performances is on here somewhere. He sits down to do it.
I'm surprised that you're suprised. Good music is universal. as a musician myself I am grateful for the appreciation and respect that Europeans and other non-Americans have for our music. Here it's just a throwaway commodity like kleenex.
Not really. The lead singer wrote it but never recorded it. In the 80's he was asked to put a re-recording of all their songs. He also recorded this song at the time and released it. Was 80's not 60's
Probably the best White Doo Wop song ever recorded-Imagine this song without music-say in the subway or underpass and the sounds would just blend amazingly. All the amateur groups used this as a warmup
gotta say many oldies groups sing this song, only group that came close to Capris was Moments Notice, Nicholas Anthony singing lead he came from the same neighborhood, seems downtown had the best singers.
Unfortunately Nick is not well physically. He had a lung removed from cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. I saw him in Las Vegas at a doo-wop convention a month ago. He needed to sit on a stool and looked much less hearty than he does in this video (he was a NYC cop). I heard a rumor that he announced his retirement after this performance because it was just too difficult for him physically. I hope this is not true and he recovers fully.
This song blew me away the very first time i heard it! More so, when the dj said it was a brand new tune by them. It proves that these old groups still have it,after all this time. One of my favorites!
this is dynamite! it is late authentic fifties/early sixties doo-wop even if it was recorded in 1982... just 'cause it was born in a stable, don't make it a horse! very classy a capella break too! love it!
OK two more quotes from my google search and that is it for me. A great song, no matter what year it is from:
The song is no doubt "Morse Code of Love," a 1982 release (Ambient Sound 2697) by the Capris, a Queens, N.Y. group "
AND The Capris are famous for "There's A Moon Out Tonight" (1961) and "Morse Code of Love" (1982). They are one of the few remaining original doo-wop groups from the 1950s-early 1960s -- allbutforgottenoldies
Two quotes: "But they came back...and kept coming back. In 1982 they recorded an album for Ambient Sound Records that produced yet another classic recording, "Morse Code of Love." AND "Around 1981 a guy named Marty Picar who was affiliated with CBS Records came along. He was able to get CBS to agree to record some of the original artists doing some old-sounding songs on album. That's where "Morse Code of Love" came in.
There is another doowop hit that ranks among my favorites. It's SUGAR BABY LOVE by The Rubettes. It didn't even come up in the doowop era, but in 1973.
The Capris have five vocalists..The guitar player Lou Esposito, And the drummer Tony Surgi are the other two..I know this because I'm Lou..The song is from 1982..But was started in 1961..Thanks for the compliments..Lou
now if you stared reading this dont stop its really scarey!ok send this to five other videos in 143 minutes. When you are done press F6 and your crushes name will apear on the screen in big letters this is weird because it does work.If you break this chance you wont have a crush in the next five years
I got my information from one of the DOOWOP BOX collections. I found the following as part of their biography on the Yahoo music site.
\
In 1982, .they record a new album, .. the Capris also included a couple of original tunes. One of these was a song called "Morse Code of Love." The tune sounded like it came right out of the late '50s" Over the years, "Morse Code of Love" has only grown in popularity and has become one of the most requested tunes on oldies-type radio stations.
The CD I bought for my sister is a vintage re-issue and the title of the album is MORSE CODE OF LOVE. Somebody, somewhere, has their wires crossed. But also included is their version of IMAGINE, the song by John Lennon. Splendid rendition, but that song came years later.
A great song. It is certainly not a new song but I recall reading somewhere that this song dates from around 1984.
Apparently they wrote this song to perform on oldies circuit. It got picked up by oldies stations and many thought it was from the same era as there big hit: There's a moon out tonite.
god bless you guys and doo whop

According to the CD of their best music, the song dates back to 1959. I vaguely remember it.

Well, I've heard it on oldie stations, which definitely means it pre-dates 1984. How absurd was that idea?

It's from 1982.

Well, it looks like I was wrong! Apparently, the song does indeed date from 1982, and was written and performed in the '50s doo wop style.
