  • I just came back from Wildwood, New Jersey seeing the Capris at the Wildwood Convention Center. Of course they were very good, but I was extremely disappointed that they did not mention Nick at all....After all he wrote the Morse Code of Love...and he was wonderful!! WHY was his name not mentioned.?

  • A real good song, all the doowop variations.God Bless Nick,we all miss you.

  • capris can bring tears to my eyes with the beauty of their harmonies and voices

  • DooWop forever. Throw back to another era.

  • they are from south ozone park not ozone park rockaway blvd

  • Great song. I like phantom titles. But I don't get the line "I thought that you would understand I'm not a one woman man." That would not make me come running to you if I were a chick. "You're going to run around with all these other chicks while you are with me? Oh that's all right."

  • FORGOT TO ADD THAT HOW COULD THERE BE 3 DISLIKES? THATS OUTRAGEOUS

  • GOOD EXCELLENT SONG

  • great video- great group- great song ----GREAT

  • the middle guy looks like joe pesci lol

  • the doo-wop you hear at the beginning is actually morse code for love

  • At shows when they did sound checks, or sang in the hallways backstage, Nick Santo had everybody's attention. The only other performer that I saw that could stop everything was Lee Andrews. The world is a sadder place without Mr.Santo and of course Mr.Maestro. ......I will never go to the rock and roll of fame unless Johnny gets in, his first recording was 1956 and he performed right until the end !!

  • Rest in peace Nic. At least he is now singing with Johnny Maestro !!

  • @ericroyjohn Sorry to hear Nick passed away, now he is in Rock & Roll Heaven

  • In 1982 the "Ambient sound" series was released, consisting of 3 record albums:by the Mystics, Capris and Randy and the Rainbows. This song first appeared on the Capris album from that "Ambient sound" series.I have the one by the Mystics, my best friend has the one by Randy and the Rainbows and we never dreamed that the Capris album would be the best of the three!(And that`s saying a lot because the Mystics album is great!)

  • love love love love love love this!!!! hahaha Silly Phyllissssss

  • Great 80's song with a 50's touch!!! There's a good version by the Manhattan Transfer too.

  • I am also a big fan of the Morse Code of Love and can't find it on I tunes to download to my ipod. I can get the Manhatten Transfer but not by the Capri's. Anyone have any success in finding it on itunes??

  • Rock & Roll Forever! I'm 70 and still rockin'!

  • dvwe clark 5

  • classic doo opp even if it was an 80s song

  • A W E S O M E!!!!!

  • Does anybody know what happened to Tommy Ferrara the bass singer. He was in the Del Satins and he's the brother of Fred Ferrara of the Brooklyn Bridge.

  • Hope that Nick is feeling better, I understand he had to retire from singing. He had a great voice and style, The Capris just regrouped with a new lead.

  • Comment removed

  • Nick wrote this sone in 1961 when he was a New York Policeman. He didn't finish it till 1981

  • I'm a fan of the string bass, but the bass guitar riffs REALLY work in this song. Thanks for the post.

  • Remembering 1982

  • Greatest uptempo Doo Wop song ever. I don't care when it was recorded...tops.

  • @hollies65 Totally agree with you. Love this song. Like you it does not matter to me when it was finished or recorded. Great job by Nick and the group.

  • Absolutely super.

  • Such a great song. If this was finished when it was started ('60) instead of th early 80's, it would be one of the classics (and it is to me). Doo Wop's best !

  • @elvisfrank1234 this is actually regarded as quite the doo wop classic.

  • i can't sit still when this plays. they're great. now to get them out of those white shoes --

  • i can't sit still when this plays. they're great. now to get them out of those white shoes --

  • im 13 and love this song along with all the oldies

  • Good for you.

  • The group MANHATTEN TRANSFER, had a version on one of their albums..I agree with your previous posting, it does sound 1950ish, but recorded in 1982.

Larry N. Boyington, aka Larry Neal, former curator of the Wax Museum on the big 1520 KOMA

  • God I love this song

  • Wow that was great

  • a top seller in the 80`s , love the good looking dressed Capris - a fantastic performance !!!!

  • Class Act!

  • I have Doo Wop 50 on VHS, but this performance is not on there. I'm confused.

  • original recording is on 'club' records. LP Vinyl, 'DooWop And Jive & Stroll'.Vol 10. Maybe if you can find this LP u can copy.x

  • The show was longer than the performances shown on VHS or DVD. There were several numbers that were not included on the videos.

  • saw them here in pittsbutgh a favorite band with us doo wop crowd

  • Doo woppers unite! Hello, Pittsburg.

  • what is this song about

  • Isn't that Tommy Ferraro on the right who was with the Del Satins, along with his brother Freddy?

  • Yes, that's him.

  • Good Lord!...are there only three of us who know how special these guys are? Look at how nicely they dress (thank you Capris...)...you dress...you sing...you do everything as it should be done from our era...God bless all of you...

  • i saw these guys LIVE at Hemsby a few years ago..and the Spaniels too!! Takes u back don't it?

  • The Capris they've got style, class and great music. One of the best groups out of New York.

  • My gosh these guys still look so young, they must have been in their early teens when they recorded this. Thanks for posting.

  • Very Professional Experience shows!

  • Nick recently had a lung removed and is recovering weel thank God. The Capris have been around since I was in High School and I graduated in 1963. I was a Queens guy and knew Nick before he became an NYPD Officer in 1966.

  • I wish more great music like this was out there these days. Now they try to force GOLD TOOTHED MORONS ASTHAMA attacks down our throats and call it rap - and they even spell it wrong, its CRAP... BUT DOO WOP, THATS REAL MUSIC.

Love the harmonization in the vocals, and the syncapation. GREAT VID...

  • Here's a group out of Queens, NY who in 1958 recorded "There's A Moon Out Tonight" that failed to chart until 3 years later when it would resurface and reach the # 3 spot on the billboard charts. Twenty-one years later would once again create this monster of a hit you are now hearing and regain their status as a modern doo-wop group led by Nick Santamaria. It just proves that rock 'n roll will never die and may it live on so that many other generations to come will enjoy this fantastic music!!

  • this is a great song

  • Love this song....I wish him speedy health. They did not write music like this anymore. Love doo wop

  • This song blew me away the very first time i heard it!

  • GREAT FREAKING SONG!

  • The Manhattan Transfer does a superb job of this song...sounds extraordinarily similar.

  • The Capris sang this song long before Manhattan Transfer existed.

  • umm... ok. It was just an opinion and observation. I like what I like without regard for it's chronological position in history.

  • Actually, Nick wrote this song in the early 80's so it's not that old. It's just in that style.

  • @ragdollfan what are you talking about ! that is a 50s song!!!!!

  • @mygoldta Look at some of the other posts, and examine the other postings of this song, and you'll see it was completed around 1982 or thereabouts. In a youtube performance (perhaps Nick's last) where this song is sung, he talks about starting it back in the day, having the bass intro and a line of lyric, and finishing it in the 80's when the album "There's a Moon Out Again" was recorded. Sorry, but it's a newer song written in a Doo Wop style.

  • @ragdollfan I HAVE TO SAY I WAS WRONG ABOUT THE SONG I RECORDED IT YRS AGO FROM AN OLDIES SHOW ON THE RADIO ...IT DOES SOUND LIKE FROM THE 50S OR THE 60S 1982 I WOULDVE NEVER THOUGHT ........LMFAO

  • One of the best songs and group ever. A real class act. Wish I could send Nick a quick email and hope he is recovering OK. If any one knows how to contact him please let me know. I'm a fellow New Yorker raised and brought up with Doo-Wop.

  • Doo-Wop Forever!!! Listening to and dancing to this music is the most fun you can have with your clothes on!!!

  • The greatest up-tempo doo-wop song EVER. So sad about Nick. Any update on his health?

  • I play golf with Tommy (on the right) all the time. Great guy

  • Great Stuff , Keep it comming. I am near Philly here , so you know what that means !!!

  • I means you can get a great cheese-steak with the works. lol ~Pat (NJ) :)

  • I'd like to see the Kiwi icon himself Graham Brazier legendary lead singer of HELLO SAILOR perform the Doo-Wops. THE BRAZZ MAN still has his pipes and my man can chime!

  • I watched all these shows on PBS. Although I was on the younger end in the 50's, I remember most of the big hits. I liked music then, at a young age but didn't know how to access it but from AM radio. I grew up in Newark,NJ, an area close to NY where a lot of Italian/American goups were from. Long Live DOO WOP

  • OH! Now, I want to go to 'Dickie Dees' on Bloomfield Ave., for an Italian hot dog with the works! lol ~Pat (NJ) :)

  • ...and jj's hotdogs on Bloomfield Ave by the park. Born and raised in Newark, can't get any more jersey than that.

  • True! :)

  • omg they sounded just like they did in the early early 60s :) love the video thanks a bunch keep on rockin

  • I am kind of surprised that the Brits and Aussies really like Doo Wop! I grew up singing on the Street Corners in N.J.

Sad to say that Nick Santamaria, lead singer of the Capri's has been very ill and I think he lost a lung. One of his last performances is on here somewhere. He sits down to do it.

Get well soon Nicky! From an old Doo Wopper!!!

  • I'm surprised that you're suprised. Good music is universal. as a musician myself I am grateful for the appreciation and respect that Europeans and other non-Americans have for our music. Here it's just a throwaway commodity like kleenex.

  • Oh, no,...that big strappin' handsome guy??...I'm so, sorry, to hear he's been ill. We all wish him well. (NJ)

  • Great doo wop sound and it is still played at R'n'R venues around the UK

  • Why can't we have a show like this in Brisbane, Qld, Australia, with the original artists like they had in Pittsburgh??

  • they look godd and sound good , they still around ?

  • I loved this song. and I just made a vid with it. great guys!

  • I live in England and would love to come to one of these conventions, this music is fab, is there a club to join or anywhere to get this information

  • I love this song. I was 12 when it came out in the 1980's. It's on the Doo Wop box set.

  • This song was about 20+ years before the 80's.

  • Not really. The lead singer wrote it but never recorded it. In the 80's he was asked to put a re-recording of all their songs. He also recorded this song at the time and released it. Was 80's not 60's

  • This song is an oddity. Sounds like 1958, but

written and recorded in 1982. Strange, but true.

  • Probably the best White Doo Wop song ever recorded-Imagine this song without music-say in the subway or underpass and the sounds would just blend amazingly. All the amateur groups used this as a warmup

  • Although a more contemporary song [Released in the early 80s...I agree...one of the greatest doo wop songs ever.

  • Oh? Where do you think non-Whites get it?

  • Uh oh, the R card again...geeeez get over it.

  • what's the name of this live?

  • This was a show we did called Doo Wop 50

    It was filmed in 1998...

  • gotta say many oldies groups sing this song, only group that came close to Capris was Moments Notice, Nicholas Anthony singing lead he came from the same neighborhood, seems downtown had the best singers.

  • I am so sorry to hear the news about Nick. Let's all keep him in our prayers.

  • Saw them two years ago in Jersey; they still sound great!!

  • Unfortunately Nick is not well physically. He had a lung removed from cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. I saw him in Las Vegas at a doo-wop convention a month ago. He needed to sit on a stool and looked much less hearty than he does in this video (he was a NYC cop). I heard a rumor that he announced his retirement after this performance because it was just too difficult for him physically. I hope this is not true and he recovers fully.

  • I sent my baby a telegram asking to be her man

Begging her to come back home to me (Baby come home to me)

Oh I dotted the I's and I crossed the T's

    And I'm begging pretty please

Honey honey, come back home to me (Baby come home to me)

    ^_^ Clap Clap Clap!

  • Even if the song was released in 1982, the style and sound was doo wop. Great sound

  • This song blew me away the very first time i heard it! More so, when the dj said it was a brand new tune by them. It proves that these old groups still have it,after all this time. One of my favorites!

  • It IS definitely from 1982.

  • this is dynamite! it is late authentic fifties/early sixties doo-wop even if it was recorded in 1982... just 'cause it was born in a stable, don't make it a horse! very classy a capella break too! love it!

  • What a GREAT song!

    The Capris are amazing.

This is a song from 1982 done in 1950's style.

Many people think The Morse Code of Love was made in the '50's because the Capris are from that time.

    The things we learn!

    Keep it rolling!!

    George Vreeland Hill

  • "Morse Code of Love" and "I Wonder Why" - best doo wop songs EVER!!!

  • Yeah, I'd definitely have to agree with you there!

  • OK two more quotes from my google search and that is it for me. A great song, no matter what year it is from:

The song is no doubt "Morse Code of Love," a 1982 release (Ambient Sound 2697) by the Capris, a Queens, N.Y. group "

AND The Capris are famous for "There's A Moon Out Tonight" (1961) and "Morse Code of Love" (1982). They are one of the few remaining original doo-wop groups from the 1950s-early 1960s -- allbutforgottenoldies

  • Two quotes: "But they came back...and kept coming back. In 1982 they recorded an album for Ambient Sound Records that produced yet another classic recording, "Morse Code of Love." AND "Around 1981 a guy named Marty Picar who was affiliated with CBS Records came along. He was able to get CBS to agree to record some of the original artists doing some old-sounding songs on album. That's where "Morse Code of Love" came in.

  • There is another doowop hit that ranks among my favorites. It's SUGAR BABY LOVE by The Rubettes. It didn't even come up in the doowop era, but in 1973.

  • i love the capris. This really shows an original sound from just three vocalists.

  • There is a spendid version by the Manhattan Transfer. It's on a CD called THE BEST OF DOO-WOP.

  • The Capris have five vocalists..The guitar player Lou Esposito, And the drummer Tony Surgi are the other two..I know this because I'm Lou..The song is from 1982..But was started in 1961..Thanks for the compliments..Lou

  • Great Doo-wap classic. Thanks for posting!!

  • I love this song, check out my cousin singing a capris song on my videos.

  • I got my information from one of the DOOWOP BOX collections. I found the following as part of their biography on the Yahoo music site.

    \

In 1982, .they record a new album, .. the Capris also included a couple of original tunes. One of these was a song called "Morse Code of Love." The tune sounded like it came right out of the late '50s" Over the years, "Morse Code of Love" has only grown in popularity and has become one of the most requested tunes on oldies-type radio stations.

  • The CD I bought for my sister is a vintage re-issue and the title of the album is MORSE CODE OF LOVE. Somebody, somewhere, has their wires crossed. But also included is their version of IMAGINE, the song by John Lennon. Splendid rendition, but that song came years later.

  • Great Live Performance. Faultless. The old ones are the best!! Dave Francis.

  • A great song. It is certainly not a new song but I recall reading somewhere that this song dates from around 1984.

Apparently they wrote this song to perform on oldies circuit. It got picked up by oldies stations and many thought it was from the same era as there big hit: There's a moon out tonite.

  • According to the CD of their best music, the song dates back to 1959. I vaguely remember it.

  • Well, I've heard it on oldie stations, which definitely means it pre-dates 1984. How absurd was that idea?

  • It's from 1982.

  • Well, it looks like I was wrong! Apparently, the song does indeed date from 1982, and was written and performed in the '50s doo wop style.

  • great stuff. i love the capris!!! thanks to tj lubinsky bringing them to pbs and his awesome shows!!!
