Thank you for putting aside personal religious beliefs and for seeing these as legal, not moral, issues. Too often people on both sides of the aisle forget; those who feel differently are people to. The only people who're truly affected by gay marriage are the those getting married.
I've never served, but I don't think you need to be vary worried. In 2001 England made the change, none of the predictions of doom came to pass. Evidence (survey+anecdotal) is, it won't be as bad as is feared.
@PoetsReach One thing I forgot to mention is that if a gay soldier tries to 'hit' on a straight soldier, then that gay soldier will be subjected to the same judicial punishment as a straight male soldier 'hitting' on a female. But I do stand by my prediction of enlistment and re-enlistment dropping. You can make a soldier adhere to policies but you you can't make him/her stay in when their time is up
I completely agree with your view on gay marriage, even if I dont want to live that lifestyle I think other people should be free to marry the person they love and live without harassment. And once again, I agree with your view on Dont ask Dont tell, I dont see why people want to prevent homosexuals from serving in the military. These people just want to show their patriotism and defend the country, yet people want to take that away from them. Anyways, hope you get a job soon, have a good one!
Part 2 -DADT repeal. Let's not cover our eyes and plug our ears I mean everyone already knew gays and lesbians were rampantly serving in the military. I also don't believe there will be an issue with people having gay roommates.Whether people agree with the "lifestyle" or not I think most of the fear comes from never having met gay person before. They aren't attracted to every man they see just like straight men aren't attracted to all women. They aren't going to rape you. No still means no.
@Beeht Thank you for your opinion. I am not sure if you ever served or not but the military is not like the civilian sector. It is extremely structured and disciplined which is why there is resistance by those in Washington DC concerning this issue, particularly in the Defense Department. And yes, I have met gay people before, I just chose not to hang out with them, because I do not agree with their lifestyle but I respect their right to be who they want to be.
@ThreeCatsScratching Oh no, I've never served in the military but not because I didn't love my country. I wasn't allowed to openly which always made me too nervous to join up in fear I'd be thrown out after several years. Although now that DADT has been repealed I'm a bit too old to go join up. Even from a civilian perspective I can understand and appreciate how extremely structured and disciplined the military is, albeit probably nowhere near as well as you understand it.
@Beeht I can only refer to Executive Order 9981, signed on July 26, 1948 by President Truman to desgregate the military in hopes of ridding it of racism. While the scenarios are similar I know they are also vastly different. However, much like desegregation I can only hope that with the passage of time and professionalism we keep a high moraled and strong military. While I don't expect to be accepted, I do expect to be tolerated. Just like anyone else. Which is why this is such a great country.
This was a very very interesting watch. About gay marriage. It seems that everyone is hung up on the word marriage, for what reason I've no idea. It's just a word. However, since it is an issue I don't understand why on a state and federal level we don't just replace the word marriage with union or whatever they decide to change it to. That way people could then get a union on the state and federal level giving all benefits to all people and religious people can have a marriage ceremony after.
damn faggots let them just get there aids and die it not a life style choice it is a mental problem they wont admit
