  • what if you dont use dumbells but do more reps?

  • @Goodfella12147 then it's gonna be more of an aerobic exercise than muscle building. ie good for running, not so good for sprinting. i think.

  • scott, ive been doing this recently, and i dont know why, but i feel a sting around my tailbone area. any advices? is it a pinched nerve? should i stop? please help, thanks!

  • some one open a coke at1:01?

  • ahhh my ears got raped!

  • stop making those fucking noises at the first reps lol

  • He's a big fan of the unnecessary "tsch!"

  • @ethan1336 shut up!

  • @rainxxxx Take it easy

  • @ethan1336 but when i train its a necessary tsch!

  • thank u

  • this guy has the ideal body, very strong, muscular, but not a fucking gorilla. He looks like he's agile and could run very fast. This is the body I want, not some Ronnie Coleman body.

  • A good abdominal exercise is to press 1 over and over again.

  • Ha work your legs out some more and figure out the proper way to exercise before you try giving out advice you little homo

  • It makes me laugh that Fitness Professionals people like this still tell people to NOT take their knees past their toes. Whats happens if it does?!? Will my patella fly across the room and rebound off the wall knocking myself out! What happens when you walk upstairs....your knees go OVER your toes!!!!

  • @djdtraining you run the risk of damage to ligaments in your knee, as you're placing far more stress on it than when you do something like walk up the stairs.

  • @bIuebonics If someone has the flexibility at the ankle joint, then why wouldn't you take their knees past their toes? If someone is experiencing knee pain during a lunge, they probably have weak VMO's and / or hamstrings (very common in long distance runners). The knee problem is probably not ligament strain, rather a weakness in the pes anserinus tendons.

If you have good lower body structural balance with adequate ROM then here's how you would / should perform a lunge (split squat)...

  • @bIuebonics How to perform the lunge:

    Descent

    1. Move your front knee directly forward maximally before lowering your hips.

    2. Lower the hips, keeping your back as erect as possible and your chest up.

    3. Lower your body under control until your hamstrings come in contact with your calves. If you don not have adequate ROM in your lower joints then you can place the front foot up on a step.....

  • @bIuebonics Decent continued...

    4. Make sure your knee travels forward and over your toes throughout the descent. Keep front foot heel on floor.

    Ascent

    6. First, raise the hips.

    7. Keep your torso as perpendicular to the floor as possible throughout the ascent, particularly at the sticking point.

    8. Try keep pressure going through the front heel avoiding plantar flexion

    8. Exhale throughout the ascent.

  • glad to see that even a pro wobbles a little

  • i'm replacing squats with this lunges. Advice please?

  • @DiabloMercy don't!!!!!!!! yes lunges are a great muscle building exercise but squats will always be superior because they work more of your loweer body and some of your upper body also so instead of replacing squat...add lunges into your leg workout and keep squat as your primary

  • 1:57 rape face XD

  • Dooouche

  • @86kinky86 Dooouche

  • never have tried a lunge that way before, will try it out today at the local gym

  • can you dunk?

  • @DevinF1120 hes white bro.. lol jk

  • tzuuuuuuu

  • poor guy could do this until hes blue in the face and he will always have chicken leggs, its called hard gainer

  • It's like an early-nineties public service announcement.

  • holy shit at 0:13 was the most unnatural noise I have heard. Does he work out with dogs?

  • u are nowhere near zyzz bro

  • @tricepsish This dude is roid free zyzz is roid full

  • @tricepsish Zyzz is dead. . .

  • You ARE LINK FROM ZELDA!! HUTT!! HEAAAAA!!!!

  • greg plitt fucks herman

  • scott you rock

  • your chicken legs would be bigger if you used bigger weights

  • @mjb9982

he doesn't have chicken legs, you have never seen chicken legs before if you think those are chicken legs

  • @mjb9982

    L O L. How's pre school these days? :)

  • what the hell was that at 0:14

  • @DJHiroProductions LMFAO!! AHAHAHAHA!

  • If I'm not mistaken, you have a slight wobble when leading with your right foot; I've started performing some of the p90x workout plan because I seem to have an imbalance in my step. Is that something that works itself out by getting back into shape? I'm not overweight, just scrawny and inactive.

  • @0:13

  • Fucking did some lunges and my legs still hurt after 2 days. Our instructor at school made us do lunges around the entire gym and my legs collapsed on me. I couldn't stand for 15 minutes and then I kept almost falling on my way to the next class

  • Do we get the dumbbells from Sears? LOL

  • I do these they really do make my legs and gluteus maximus too good

  • whats the size of your abdomen? looks thick compared to upper body, i guess genetics

  • I;ve seen other vids, whr u need to jess go down n up...bt in ur vid u suggest coming back to standing position by pushing....dnt u think this puts morep ressure on knees ????? coz I've tried both the forms, n wud like to know wht u suggest :D

  • Lovin these Vids!!!

  • press 1 for maximum entertainment

  • Nice, thanks for making the intro absurdly loud compared to the content. Also, CH! CH!

  • I heard Jeff Cavaliere say he could kick your ass, Scott. You gonna take that?! JOCK FIGHT!

  • scott i like turtles

  • Ur hot! :D

  • Me thinks ol' Scott doesn't do leg exercises as often as he acts like he does. Or he's just geneticlly weak and inferior in those muscle groups.

  • @VWGTI4LIFE make your own video then if you think you're much better then!

  • @mrbrockpeters WAAAAAAAAA!!! ME NAME "MRBROCKPETERS". ME BABY AND WANT ALL TINGS TO BE SUNSHINE AND ROSES ALL DA TIME.

    Eat an AIDS cack faggot.

  • do these make your legs skinnier?

  • Wasn't This Guy From The Real World O.o

  • @Lemonz777 he isssssss :O

  • @MrCowboy59 OH MY GOODNESS....Awesome XD

  • Need to work on those little calves blud!

  • hey scott, how heavy are the dumbells when you do this exercise?

  • I'm saying Tshhh! Just like you, but I'm not seeing any results

  • thanks, good tips.

  • i noticed that there is no one in the gym in every-single video of yours lol i was just wondering what time do u go to the gym?

  • scott is over 9000

  • fuck the police

  • Those irritating noises he keeps making makes me want to dumbell him in the head

  • Hi..

I have been going to the gym for about 9 months now, and have seen tremendous impact on my body. But, I still feel I need to work out my legs to bring them to shape. Would lunges be a good exercise for thighs? What other exercises should I add on to this?

  • One of the hardest exercises to execute proper form.

  • Gay guys have the best bodies

  • Your moaning is soooooo annoying, leaves me deaf

  • I have 1 question. Is this exercise good to add muscle to the legs?

Or is it only for toning your legs?

    Cheers

  • @juna2509 it's good for both. It kind of depends on the amount of weight you do. More muscle = lower reps/higher weight and vice versa for toning

  • @juna2509 Toning is the result of fat removal, which is achieved by diet and cardiovascular exercise, not lifting. Lunges are a well rounded leg workout similar to squats and leg press. Mostly it targets the hamstrings and quads. If you want to add muscle to those areas then yes, this is a good exercise for that. If you want to tone up, but not bulk up, the best way to do so is a combination of cardio and light weight training. I hope this helps.

  • hey great video, I just learned I've been using a terrible form for a few weeks. I wish I'd watched this earlier...

  • No, only cardiovascular exercise will reduce body fat. End of story : )

  • intro is annoying and info lacks consistency. some of the stuff is just wrong. more or less a pretty boy in a gym with no shirt on.

  • ur breathing noise is annoying

  • is it helps to reduce extra weight over the butt??

  • Ur p3nis is small

  • Thanks, I didnt know how to do these. Very helpful.

  • i was shown on a different tutorial "not to step out TOO far, because your back thigh is supposed to be straight aligned with your upper body" but on this video, the back thigh and back are not straight. it forms somewhat of an angle. idk who to believe with this, and most of all i want people (including myself) to do this properly and get the results we all want while practicing safety as well.. I dont wanna pull a muscle. so which way should it be?

  • you forgot to breath on 1:46

  • @ahmedali1999 ...

  • bad case of chicken legs there mate.

  • @fugehdehyou thats what i was thinking too

  • @fugehdehyou its just calves, theres not a lot of muscle in your calves, check out his quad workouts no homo.

  • Great butt exercise. This and a deep, wide squat are about the only ones I feel in my glutes.

  • he definitely never does this exercise, needs a ton of practice still on the movement.......... scott knowing and being able to perform are 2 different things, no? you lose your credibility when you put up videos like this

  • @DeliciousPoop when you have a name like deliciouspoop, you've already lost all credibility. You birdwatcher, no one cares about your posts.

  • do not push off with your toe. try to push off with the heel as much as possible. pushing from the toe in these types of exercises may lead to injury.

  • working out with your shirt off increases gains 2930%

  • what is best to use dumbbells a barbell or medicine ball?

  • A simple question : does anyone while working out hold their breath in between rep at times, breathe irregularly through out and breathe like mad during breaks..? If you think its the correct breathing technique and you're using it..!!! Then good luck to you

  • yo

  • yo scott is that help to jump ?

  • Wrong, you should be pushing off with the ball of foot. This lunge is too far forward, which is why it likes there is a tumor growing out of this guy's leg. Good form if you want to disfigure your body.

  • fuck you asshole

  • Douche of the decade.

  • 00:14 wth is that noise ?? did the barbell fall on u while u were making your funky noises?

  • Thanks for the blasting music when im watching this at 3am.

  • "CHUH"

  • What does this exercise do?

  • I can't do this exercise to save my life.

  • So what's the difference between a front lunge and a back lunge besides the direction?

  • Are you sponsored by those shorts

  • Thanks

  • Join us on the SHF facebook community for more tips! facebook[.]com/scotthermanfitness

  • hey scott, is 15-20 the max you might want to do with dumbell lunges? I tried with 30 and felt like I was going to bust my kneecaps lol

  • it depends on how strong the surround muscle tissue is around your knees my friend! :)

  • @ScottHermanFitness do walking lunges have a different effect on your muscles?

  • @ScottHermanFitness what would you recommend to build up that part in that event?

  • @abstrakt237 yo homie, makesure ur knee doesn go forward rly ur front shin should be perpindicular to the ground. i do 65's and dont have any knee problems. make sure u go all the way down and if u have to take a longer step out so ur front knee doesn come forward

  • Thanks heaps Scott. Really helpful.

  • you the man scott!!!

  • ohhh shit! Scott from real world. you're the man. i didnt know you ended up gettig your own fitness vids. keep it up man.

  • OK thanks. Just I think I was bend forward to much before. I use to pull my hams a lot. Now I just go down on the back leg and now I see my hams are fine. I was lunging to far forward before.

  • I do this in the gym. But someone said your back leg (knee) should always be in line with your back and not behind you? Any light on that anyone?

  • Scott,

Much better w/o the facial hair.

  • Do you do or know Body Pump?

If yes, what do you think about it?

  • Okay im 16 108lbs and i was wondering whats the easiest way to loose belly fat, crunches? or what? haha just need a little help ;)

  • yay, now that the comments r showing again, i get to finally reply lol. Now i see how its done. Just so u know i was kidding.... i'm really not trying to breathe like that when i'm workingout, i was wondering how u did that and i tried to see if i could but could'nt figure it out lol.

  • i know, i even refreshed the page and checked properly to make sure i did'nt miss it. Now its finally up though. If anyone else out there noticed comments on utube showing one day and not showing another day..... please leave a comment about it, i'm sure i'm not the only one who noticed it.

  • isn't it that you don't want your knee to go past your ankle? that's what i was taught...

  • Scott when doing dumbell lunges I notice that my right glute gets a better workout than my left. My right side is dominant in every muscle group, which is probably why, but it sucks. I know I am using the right form, yet sometimes when doing lunges with my left, I notice my right quadricep will strain, like it's picking up the slack. Why would this be??

  • do you push off using the toes behind you or in front or both or your front heel?

I do lunges sometimes and I always wonder if I am targeting the correct muscles when I push off. Are lunges for working mainly the glutes or legs?

  • Scott-

    u da man!

  • Hey scott, thanks for great videos.

I would like to know how often you go cardio? (times/week; minutes/train or w.e)

My nutrition was bad and I would like to lose some % of body fat to see my abs (lol), but I heard rumours that to much cardio will also make you lose some muscle mass.

I'm not fat, I know I have abs under my skin lol, its just because I wasnt eating properly and everything went on my stomach.

    Thanks.

  • you are so hot !

  • the ending of the intro cracks me up all the time!.......even though i know it's one of scott's usual sounds when he pushes himself harder.......it sounds like someone constipated had to push really hard while taking a dump on the toilet LOL

  • haha, HEUEUUUUUUUUUUUHHH!!!!!

  • how long u have been workout

  • This is a new year and its time we get right.

  • Could anyone recommend or direct me to a video that would help my hamstrings. I tore them off the pelvis in august and couldnt walk for 3 months and they are still really weak and sore.

  • @ScottHermanFitness I didnt.. Are you going to be on that? I watch every episode.. While im working out of course lol.

  • I will try this - I want a gym like that, only time I get peace & quiet is if I go to the boxing room in the middle of the day. I wanted to jump out the window at the gym today

  • And another thing I wanna ask is do you go all natural or what muscle building product do you use? I use quick gainer and I went from benching 130 to 180 in a month and a half..your dumbbell excercises really helped me build muscle too.

  • wuts going on with utube? i'm trying to reply back to one of ur comments from yesterday and they don't have any comments of u from yesterday? wuts up wit that, i need utube to get it together and stop messing peoples vlogs up. Sorry utube, love u but that needs fixing.

  • Is it sad that I am always eating every time I was one of your videos? lol

  • just wondering scott..

does your size affect your speed when you sprint?

  • sorry i can't watch you often right now, cos i've got exams in next two weeks,so i 'm sticking in library. btw Do you have any ideas working out while sitting on a chair? ,cos i;ve to study for hours . i'm joking

  • butt clenches? :D

  • I would love to see you on a Real World/Road Rules challenges. I think you would do great.

but its seems that your busy for it . well good luck and thanks for the tips.

  • i like ur shoes

  • i have better legs than you. :D:D:D:D:D::D

    ...joz 1 scott 10

  • did someone sneeze at the end of the intro?

  • i think thats a dog bark

  • i'm liking the new intro :)

actually don't know how new it is haha, been away a while

  • ellen is gonna have richard simmons (lol) and queen latifah (lol) tomorrow.....hurry save ellen!

  • este guey es chido

  • Another thing: It's impossible (unfortunatelly) for me to see the video as HD cos it's very heavy and the video keeps freezing.. You're uploading as mp4 or another heavy format (apple's MOVIE?). You should upload it as Flash video as before : ( or avi or mpeg . Anyway, you rock.

  • Scott I rely wish if you change the beginning.. its annoying :(

  • Lol I get scared sometimes with the sound. It's the "scare" factor. The non-sound version from the past was good cos the intro was his voice saying his trademark line (I always thought OMG he must be pissed for saying this again HAHA)

  • @FreeSoul718 fo sho. it is so cheezy

  • music is just too loud and then his voice drops low ... then again in the end it blasts loud ... change unless you want your viewers to remain busy with the volume controls!

  • Ellen is badass.

  • tomorow it is!

  • Do I have to make that "SHUUU" sound for it to work better? :p

    JK

    Thanks!

  • @tirodopolus hahaha really!

  • I do, like, 8 or 10 reps to one side then I do the other side. This way you're doing is as difficult as walking lunges which I recommend you doing someday in your videos lol (Lunges 2 - the return) . Actually, I guess your best video ever WILL be a squating one!

  • I love this exercise. Scott is the king og the lunges lol

  • can u trademark a breathing noise?

  • @FL174 TSSSSHH!

  • @FL174

I think its a karate thing..

  • awsom bro.

  • how do u breathe like that wit a "chhhhuuut", i kinda tried because i want to breathe better when i workout but i could'nt breathe and do that at the same time lol..... it felt like i was making more of an effort to talk :P

  • Scott just does that on videos to remind you to breathe, but the exertion of breathing should not impair your workout. Breathe out during the hard part, but there does not have to be a grunt like Scott makes to make a point.
