@2:15, Notice how Mr. Sowell is at the end of the book. No one ever does this anymore in today's society. People read ten pages and then talk about it for days like they know something. I admit that i'm guilty of this as well, our culture needs to read more.
@devildog3406 Why? Am I for or against Affirmative Action...against. But I'm also against racism and other benefits that people get...I don't see what's really that wrong with Affirmative Action. All I see are a bunch of losers that are mad that blacks get one benefit from being black while also getting a world of negatives. It's just really stupid if you ask me. Should AA exist? Of course not but look at the world we live in...
@mxzysptlik you don't see what is wrong with people getting promoted by race rather than what they have earned as a problem? the negatives come from the people being screwed because they aren't black.racism for the sake of reversing past racism is still racism! you can't be a loser if the game is rigged!
@yetitracker Yeah I do think it's wrong for people to get promoted because of race, but I also think it's wrong for people to act like people weren't held down until the 1970's because of race. And it's not only race it's sex, class, and region. For instance, if you live in Arkansas or Kansas and you're a white male it will be easier for you to get into Yale than someone from Illinois. Or if you're a white male going into nursing it's easier for you to get into nursing school.
@yetitracker Or, if you're married you get special tax benefits that single people don't get...people get all kinds of benefits in this country that have nothing to do with race. I don't really understand why people waste their time complaining about blacks getting this or that when they're probably getting something. Heck, if you own a house you get special tax breaks. Why not take away all benefits if you're truly interested in being fair?
You know the thing that's funny about Thomas Sowell is that he has made his money off of race, just like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. This dude is only famous because he was the conservative answer to the likes of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. If it were not for his race, no one would have listened to him, no matter how brilliant he may have been. So cut the bullshit :P
@mxzysptlik I think people would have listened because of his ability to articulate conservatism. Conservatism can seem very scary due to the anti-entitlement philosophy. Aff. Action has turned into more of a gender-based entitlement program anyway, which is why I can't understand why some black people swear by it. I know a white lady who slyly ragged on AA and when I suggested it should be ended, she started moderating her position. She even suggested I was chauvinist and racist. How?
@SirManUp You're basically right about it being more a program for women now. That's what like 90% of AA is. What pisses me off is that people rarely mention that...probably cause they want to get laid.
@mxzysptlik Somewhat. Also, lot of folks have become bureaucrats, so, in order to keep the funding for the department or a specific position that deals with certain social problems, you have to make sure that those problems maintain existence. If strategies that bear solid solutions are implemented, that means the position, or department becomes irrelevant. That also makes it difficult for "Chicken Little" type-activists to get money.
Yes, I'm quite sure Sowell "don't anything about Harvard"...as it's quite evident you "don't anything about Harvard" or any other institution of learning, for that matter.
Damn this is true, I had no idea affirmative action still existed. I discussed this with my english professor couple years ago. How Civil Rights is just making things worst for Blacks, and still benefiting racist whites. I hate Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, the two biggest wet rags ever. They don't do anything to actually help blacks, I wish they would just disappear from the media. That would actually help blacks help themselves.
"why does the mafia dislike the policeman?" LMAO Sowell is not only extremely intelligent he is also very funny. Sharpton and jackson have made a living off of hate and the racial divide. Do you think they would want to step aside and lose all the power and glorification. They are profiteers of exploitation, plain and simple

It's funny when people compare Sowell, a philosopher, to dummies like Sharpton and Jackson.

Wow.. What's not to like? He's brilliant!
He did more in this four minute video to repair race relations, then anyone else has in years.

This man is a class act.
Victim statements are seductive, especially when added to music, and race..

I agree with a lot of what he says, I am a democrat, but he does speak a lot of truth!
However, sometimes he does go a bit too far!

@APhoenix0911 I think he mostly goes to far on war. If I remember correctly he takes a lot of hard right positions on war. Really frustrating.

Thanks for posting, now can you convince him to run for president before the current one completely transforms the U.S. into a Marxist state?
