Do not know if youn still monitor this but I am having a problem. II am running Win7.Video plays well, even .mkv. Audio files will not.PS3 sees tversity and the mp3 files but will not play them. No error messages and no audio. Any suggestions?

burn the mkv on a dvd (UDF) you can then later copy it to your HD into a folder you have shared with PMS or just share your dvd/bd drive and stream it from there to your ps3

Yes, but not with TVersity. Many people recommend PS3 Media Server for MKV streaming. Personally, I transcode them with programs like mkv2vob or XviD4PSP.

"Voyager" is the name I chose for my computer when installing the OS. That's how it is identified on a local network. The computer name is showing on what machine the server is located.

Make sure you are in the Music tab of the XMB. If you're doing so, make sure the audio is in a format the PS3 recognizes, and not DRM protected.

Not really sure what you're asking here. You can't create quality where none exists. If you have low-quality files to start with, trying to enhance them will only result in blurry high resolution files.

mkv is a multimedia container for video files. it has nothing to do with blu-rays, but it is usually used to store high resolution videos.

You would need a direct link to the video feed. Very few video providers make these links available, and those that do rarely have anything worth watching.

If you did have the URL, in the main menu you would select: Add Internet Media >> Add Video URL

Services such as TVU, or sites that use proprietary video players like GameSpot or the BBC will not work with TVersity.

Because TVersity occasionally chooses to transcode when there is no need to do so, creating some problems for me. It doesn't happen very often, but I've run into it enough so that I prefer to keep it on "Never," and manually tell it when to transcode.

Just a personal preference of mine. Either option should work fine.

The other free alternative I know of is Windows Media Player 11. Add files to the "shared" option.

You don't need to import anything. If you have a network connection established between your PS3 and the router your PC is connected to, TVersity will automatically show up as a media server if it is active on your PC.

If it doesn't, the two most common reasons are 1) Windows Firewall is blocking it, or 2) Media Server Connection is set to Disabled under the PS3 Network Settings.

Ok thanks KabutoHunter. When you scan for media server on PS3, and it find Tversity...will U scan everytime you turn on your PS3, or will it still be there? Also, have you tried to use internet radio yet?

It should show up automatically a few seconds after you start the PS3. Sometimes it doesn't for some reason, and then you have to scan.

I have tried Internet radio with TVersity, and it works perfectly fine if you have a direct link to the stream. I don't use it much, though.

Only if you have an unsecured wireless connection. If you have an encrypted signal with a password, they will not have access.

You should always encrypt your wireless connection. Both for reasons such as this and for protection against very real security threats. Someone with access to an unsecured signal can conduct criminal activity through your connection and make it appear as though you are doing it.

All of the functions are exactly the same in the new version; it just looks shiny and the main interface is rearranged. But all the submenus and configuration screens are the same as ever.

I've actually found myself rolling back to this older version because of some problems I encounted with the new transcoder.

2nd: Streaming any file for me, native or not, results in a delay above 1.5x fast forward. How did you work around that?

1) The Go To function. You can access that while playing a video by pressing the Triangle button and selecting the arrow icon in the upper-left of that menu.

2) I would guess this is a problem with your connection quality between the PC and PS3. If it's a file that works natively on the PS3, the only issue involved is how quickly it can transfer the data. You might try copying those files to the PS3 HDD before viewing in order to avoid that. Use the Triangle menu in the video list.

No internet connection should be needed after setup, however you will need a network connection between your PC and PS3, either wired or wireless. And, yes, the computer has to be turned on for it to function.

You can select the Copy function in the PS3 menu to copy over videos that work natively, and then turn off the computer. But the PC would need to be on if you're streaming the video or it needs to be transcoded.

In order to access Internet TV you would need a direct link to the video stream source, which you would add to TVersity under the + icon with Add Internet Media > Add Video URL. Unfortunately, most TV streams--including those which you mentioned--make use of embedded media players or specialized software. Very few sites give you direct access to the content, and very few of the ones who do have anything worth your time.

I've encountered this problem a couple of times. Once on Kamen Rider Kabuto, and again on an old Kung Fu movie. Both times it was the encoding of the file which was to blame. For instance, on Kamen Rider Kabuto, TV-Nihon decided to put a splash screen at the start of each episode, but didn't include audio data with it. When it gets transcoded, the program tries to put the audio at the very start and makes it out of sync. It's not only TVersity that does this, other transcoders do as well.

For YouTube you'd be better off just using the built-in PS3 Internet browser. It supports YouTube just fine.

And my download speed is actually fairly average if you take a closer look. That part of the video was sped up so you didn't have to watch progress bars :P

PS3 does not support mkv files, so it would have to be transcoded. However I'm not sure if TVersity supports it either. I hardly ever use mkv, but downloaded one the other day by mistake, tried it and it didn't work.
