@gozer5454: (1) After seeing this absolutely amazing job you did with this Grand Prix Star cabinet conversion, I decided to take the plunge with converting my dual-sit down Final Lap cabinet. You are not kidding with how much work a conversion like this actually is, it has easily been 30-40 hours of labor/soldiering/etc for my conversion, but well well worth it.
@gozer5454: (2) I ended up using 2x 22" LCD philips tv's using HD component inputs, 2x Madcatz MC2's (a 3rd one got fried in the process), and 2x modded Xboxes with 160gb drives to have all of the system link driving games available from the xbox media center menu to avoid loading/scratching discs (my boys are 4 and 6).
@erichartman78 Great to hear. Sounds like an awesome job. I'd love to see it if you get around to making a youtube video of it. Ironically, my buddy came across a Final Lap cabinet and wanted to know if I wanted it for another hack job. I declined. Too much work. Maybe when both my kids get older. I'm currently hacking another system for arcade use. Should be a new video up in a few weeks.
@gozer5454: (3) Instead of mounting the buttons on the cabinet directly, I built a wedge-shaped console in-between the seats to mount X-arcade controls joysticks and buttons to drive the inputs to the MC2's, all fed through some custom made DB25 parallel cables.
@gozer5454: (3) I even fed the surround sound speakers built into the rear of the seats from the two TVs mic output giving a nice private surround sound effect for each player. I plan on setting up a serial port switch to toggle between the arcade pedals and the original MC2 pedal assembly for my boys who cannot easily reach the arcade pedals yet. When wiring the pots from the Final Lap pedals, I made sure to build a DB9 serial connector that plugged into the MC2 to allow this to work later.
@gozer5454: (4) Outrun 2 and Outrun 2006 Coast-to-Coast rock this cabinet, always a hit. But at parties, playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 or Halo 2 is just as amazing with this setup. Since some games are not system-linkable, I also setup a video splitter and an addt'l Xbox composite cbl to dble the video/audio to both TVs when needed. The modded xboxes have the benefit of running Mame and Coinops which literally adds thousands of games to the available library in this dual driving cabinet.
@gozer5454: (5) Thank you so much for showing that such a conversion is possible. My three boys and I are very grateful for you sharing the knowledge to accomplish this. We use our cabinet almost daily, and if it wasn't for you it would never have been possible. Keep up the outstanding work! This xbox cabinet is an heirloom which my boys will remember their entire lives.
Can't believe u sold that beast for so little. If u were in Australia I would have bought it off of u in a heart beat. Some got the deal of a life time
oh my gosh,, this may be one of the coolest things i have ever seen on youtube that is real. i really want to build or buy a oldschool mortal kombat III arcade machine, but oh my gosh you made like the best arcade machine ever, i never even knew it was possible to do that with xbox 360's.
@gozer5454 Man you are going to be rich (you probably are rich already with your skills) what an amazing arcade cabinet and video. Can I ask you a question since your a pro at constructing things like this, I want to make a inexpensive custom arcade cabinet for my computer and maybe my consoles. I wanted to know is their a place I can go to online get the proper measurements for what piece of wood I will need for the project and how to put it together. You can say I'm looking for and guide.
@NASIRUB1 I would really like to use my LCD TV/LCD computer monitor instead of CRT TV's and I would like easy access to the mouse Keyboard and game controllers. If you or any body can point in the right direction that would be nice.
Best tip have plenty of extra time and cash. Doing a double driver like this you'll spend atleast 12 hours per each side to rewire. Plus the cost of steering wheels, parts, etc, etc, etc.
@gozer5454 you can buy the whole set with coin door from Thailand ready made. They usually run burnout3. You put 10Baht coin in. I think it was some special deal microsoft did with Thailand ...the X-box came out there only for a few months then they ALL dissappeared from the shops. Then Burnout3 cabinets appeared all over thailand...just like this ... took 10Baht coins. You can see them in Tescos. Great idea for MS to market the Xbox in this way since thailand is so poor most cannot afford one.
Hmmm... sounds neat. I'm sure they looked pretty cool. I'm 100% positive they look nothing like this cabinet. This was a custom build from a arcade game that was released from Jaleco 20 years ago. Is there a link to the game you're talking about? I've searched high and low on the net for ANYONE else who also tried doing a custom xbox racer like this and have found maybe 2 or 3 guys here on youtube..
$750 complete. I hate to sound prideful or egotistical, but I feel it is an excellent deal for all the labor and parts. I would have liked to sell it for $1000, but refuse to sell it complete for less than $750.
@gozer5454 you can buy the whole set from Thailand for about 200USD without XBOX or Screen but with a coin door mod chip!! So you can charge for games. Postage might weigh a bit though.

Sell it? Doesn’t it suck, once you can build games you have no more interest in actually playing them :(

Locally on Craigslist. At the price I'm listing it at, I feel like I'm giving it away after all the effort put into it.
