From 0:46-0:50, Bert made a mistake when he said that he couldn't find a single thing that him and Ernie like.

Bert could have told Ernie that they both should pretend and imagine that they're big hippopotamus brothers in the zoo being seen by other people since in the bedtime Ernie and Bert skit when they were singing a song about the things they like, and Ernie sang that he likes seeing the big hippopotamus in the zoo and Bert said that he likes that too.

From 3:12-3:17, I'm sure Ernie would have known which way Bert went to go hide and I'm sure he would have found him where he was hiding since because, as he was running to a hiding spot, he was laughing out loud, so I'm sure as soon as Ernie finished counting, he might have said "I think Bert went that way since I can hear his laughing and running in that direction."

Of course, Bert is always rejecting Ernie's invitations to play with him, yet somehow I find Bert easier to sympathize with than Ernie.

I was thinking the same thing. Usually whenever Bert is reading, eating oatmeal, or feeding his pigeon Bernice or watching a pigeon outside, he mostly yells at Ernie.

Maybe the reason why Bert was more interested in playing with Ernie on this skit is because, he didn't know or have a book to read (he must have read every book in the apartment and didn't get any new ones yet), and he wasn't hungry for oatmeal and there were no pigeons outside to look at.

I guess Bert was bored.

Me too. I saw and heard this song when I was in Nursery School. I remember early morning I saw this skit and heard Bert singing, then at Nursery School while all kids including me were in the school playground, I was singing this song out loud to myself, and some man who was going to get inside his truck was looking at me. I wasn't sure back then if he was looking at me because, he knew the song, enjoyed hearing me sing, or was looking at me thinking I was strange to be singing to myself.

I felt the same way. Usually I thought it would have been Ernie singing this song because, Ernie usually is the one who is mostly in the mood to play with Bert while Bert only wants to read, eat, or sleep.
