Drew, It's a question most people ask and is very subjective. To quote Dan Bailey (Cicerone's mountain ridges) "The arete is straight forward in all but the most hostile conditions"
Although there is a big drop on both sides of the arete, it's pretty broad and fairly easy to cross. Just hope you get the right weather. Give it a whirl!
silly question, but i am scared of heights. i enjoy climbing mountains, but like to avoid routes that are a bit 'lairy'. would you suggest to do this? or do you think i will get too chicken with it?
No, it doesn't have to be next to perfect. But what some may call good weather others may disagree, check the mountain weather forecast before setting off.
@mesatc2 Did this route in early June this year in low cloud your vidio makes me realise what we missed, have to go back and do it again in good weather. Your timings a arte spot on it took us the same time. Thanks for a great vidio
Nice video! Really enjoyed watching it, and looking forward to complete the CMD arete route myself. But I hired a guide to make sure I'll live if the weather takes a turn for the worst ;-)
It depends on how experienced you are. We tried it earlier in the year with low cloud and snow and we turned back even though we had all the right gear, crampons ice axe etc. I'd think high winds would be the main problem at this time of year.
im hoping to do this same walk next year and this has only made me more excited about it!
Was this climb done in june? im trying to pick a good month that will give good views and aviod too much snow as i am not very experience on snow and ice and dont have the equipment for it.
Thanks for the comments. We did the walk in early June and the weather was perfect. There wasn't any snow until the summit but we didn't need to use our winter gear. I'd only recommend doing it in maximum daylight hours as it took us 10 hours to complete.
We did attempt it in April but had to abort due to high winds and snow.
Great footage,great music

does the weather have to be next to perfect to do this route thou?
gsmith7767 1 year ago
I wouldn't say it has to be near perfect but I'd avoid a windy day.

does the weather have to be near perfect thou??we did the pony trail other day up nevis as it was to windy an was advised not to do the CMD arete?
gsmith7767 1 year ago
If you can do Crib Coch you'll manage this. It's the climb from the hut that's hard going.

Really nice video. Gave me a good idea of what the walk is like.
Nice to see someone making a video and not ust uploading a slideshow.
We are taking your route at the weekend and I hope we have as good weather as you did.
Thanks for uploading.

Thanks for the comments. the vid is a bit jerky but it's not easy walking the ridge holding a camera. Good luck and hope the weather is kind.
