  • This tune is called "Freddies Tune" it was composed by Fredamann Stickle from the island of Unst in Shetland.

  • The Shetland air is called "da Day Dawn" Traditionally, its played at sun up on new years day.

It has to be THE most beautiful tune to come out of these islands some of us call home.

  • Beautiful playing of a lovely tune, but not actually one of my own writing. It is a traditional tune from Shetland which I recorded on the piano on my album The Bright Field. I took it myself from an old recording with Shetland fiddlers Aly Bain & Tom Anderson, with pianist Violet Tulloch. And so the tradition goes! Thank you Andy -- Paul Machlis

  • Thanks for watching the video, Paul! 'The Bright Field' is a beautiful album - hope I did Shetland Air some justice, I'll have to seek out a copy of the Aly Bain recording.
