I am saving to get my S40 after New Year's! My whole family owns Volvos, my dad has the C70 and my mom has the C30. Volvo is an amazing car, a pleasure to drive, really safe too!

Hey, guys. I have a Volvo S40 2004 base. It has 110,000 miles on it and yes, it is a great car. The guy I bought it from is now offering me a Volvo S60 2008 base. I would have to trade in my Volvo S40 and negotiate another 1,500-2,000 dollars. Should I get it? Oh, and one more thing to mention, I have done a lot to this car since I first got ownership of it. I have cleaned literally EVERYTHING, I aligned it, balanced the wheels and fixed some dents. So, is it worth it?

I currently have a Focus Saloon and was planning on replacing it with either another Focus Saloon or the S40. Didn't know they shared the same chasis. Interesting...

Hardly a review, it sounds more like propaganda. I am a proud S40 owner, I love the car but I know is not perfect.

Swedish police use S40 but we have tuned the car and turbo :)

The S40 used the Ford Focus base?? Umm... other way around! The S40 is a Volvo P1 or P2( can't remember which, don't care to look it up again) platform car, like the newer Ford Focus models...

The original S40 shared much with the Mitsubishi Charisma, and both were made in the Netherlands at the same plant.

@oddfigure hope this helps even tho it appears you commented quite a while ago. to answer your question, YES. it was the first car i drove. tight suspension, good steering, safe, enough guts to get through those pesky yellow lights (the 5 cylinder is very nice), decent room. comfortable.

i would rate this car 9/10 for a first car. if it were up to me i would give a little bit more room, but then again, im 6 foot 3
