  • @ReallyJackson yah, in the same way a Ferrari would destroy a Chevy

  • @35stevestarks ya, ur 360 would destroy this 20 year old system. In the same way my PC would destroy ur 7 year old 360

  • quem é Brasileiro concerteza se emocionou

  • @35stevestarks ...I hope you die burning in a deep dark hole you ass...

  • R.I.P Flag Guy 0.00-3.59

  • mark all ways knows how to make people laugh

    ZOOM BANG AAAAAAAA

  • Love Top Gear !

  • RIP Ayrton Senna 1960-1994

  • @ContraCommando Actually, I don't agree with that. I'd rather have a reviewer judge a game by today's standards because I want to know whether or not to pick it up today, not 1992.

  • @rdDolphinX Actually, i don't agree with that. Judging a older game by today's standards is fucking ridiculous.

  • God I loved this game! <3 The music is soo freaking awesome in it :3

  • in top gear

  • james may is captain slow

  • VR Racing is the best racer on the Genesis.

  • @ViciousAlienKlown Agreed, i still remember those day's when i did the time trialls over and over to beat my friend :-D The framerate may be low, but the game did not loose out on the superb playabillity, and everything the arcade version had, was also on the Genesis!

  • first person pole position

  • @sonic4sale yeh you can actually hit the flag man. You can do it in the first one also.

  • Wait... you can actually hit the flag man in this game!? Its not fake!?

  • lol is that scream actually in the game or did you edit that in? lol

  • My Dad bought this the same day we got a Genesis in 1992.Good Times.

  • i never understood how people can play these 2D racing games .... its soooo bad

  • @McBlemmen

They're bad by today's standards, but back in the early 90's they were amazing.

  • @iceteaguy There still good even today. NEVER ever judge a old game by today;s standards. You already fucked yourself when you do that.

  • @ContraCommando

From a realistic perspective, Super Monaco GP doesn't compare to F1 2011. The only thing it has going for it is nostalgic value.

This is like comparing a bolt action rifle from WWI to a modern mil-spec assault rifle. The old one isn't necessarily bad, but the new one wins in virtually every aspect.

  • @iceteaguy From a realistic perspective it would be wise to compare a 1992 game with a 2011 game. As a gamer, I NEVER ever use the nostalgia card. That is the mistake only casual gamers (who have no respect for old school games since they were brought up in the new school era) make. About the bolt action, it depends on the person using it. No one can stop a bullet.

  • @ContraCommando

You're looking through rose tinted glasses, and your name clearly displays your proud bias toward older games.

Both games were designed to offer a realistic perspective, and to say it's wrong to compare games from 1992 to games from 2011 is to say it's wrong to look at the advancement of technology which is just gross ignorance.

I've been playing games for over fifteen years. Tenure or obsession do not increase merit in the field of reason.

  • @ContraCommando

Btw, if you really think a bolt action rifle from WWII would be a combat effective weapon in a modern firefight, you have no idea what modern firefights are like.

Anything you could do with an M1903 could be done better with a Mk16, with the exception of maybe a bayonet attack, or splintering the enemy.

  • @iceteaguy Sorry kid, I been in a few firefights in my life so please. I was being sarcastic and a bolt action is NOT comparable to a game.

  • @ContraCommando

Okay. Nice to see you've pulled the "kid" card. Troll, I'm done with you.

  • @iceteaguy IMHO Super Monaco GP is still very playable; the game's strength is it's engrossing career mode and the system of picking rivals and progressing through teams. Visually SMGP may have aged in terms of its foreground but the backdrops are still stunning today; the subtle hue of the sky is a particular contrast with the garish colors found in most driving games right up to the 128bit era. Does it still stand as a Simulation? Nope. As an arcade racer? Absolutely Yes.

  • @Relugus

More engrossing or fun? Perhaps. My point was stating that F1 2011 is a better simulation racer, hands down.

You might suggest it's unfair to compare them because one definitely falls into the arcade genre where the other is definitely more sim, but that's only if you discount that all racers before Gran Turismo were essentially arcade racers.

Fact is, SMGP was as sim as it came back in that day, and F1 2011 unarguably provides a better simulation.

  • @McBlemmen No there not, you just suck.

  • lol @ 3:57 xD Great Review. 5/5

  • can you really hit the flagman in the game?

  • YES JAMES MAY AND OZ CLARKE SHOULD REDO THE WINE SHOW! TOP GEAR RULES!!!

  • If this was on the 3DS the 3d effect would be tripping me out so hard.

  • The opportunity to send the flag man into orbit vastly outweighs any of this game's other selling points.

  • I had this game, Loved this game.

  • Ayrton Senna's? Holy Crap! So I get to drive superfast, and be a complete A-hole to my teammates while I cheat?

Oh, and James May does indeed kick ass.

  • Congratulations!

  • Looks like the Flag Man is blasting off again!!! *ting*

  • The Flag Man...Oh god my sides !! At least...He is safe from the killer bees now.

  • BBBBBBBBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • Sergio Matheas must be a pseudonym of Mohammed from Qatar

  • LOL !! every Super Monaco GP fan will hit the flagman. I remember hitting it my cousin and i cannot stand laughing for minutes !! XD

  • WOO HOO JAMES MAY , TOP GEAR FANTASTIC

  • Actual driving wasn't all that complex, but ohh what fun to be had.

All about the rival mode, moving the way up the teams was one of the greatest hooks ever!!

The game was so easy to lick, you could win in even the bottom team, blocking grand tourismo style... and if you were that way inclined,, allways a Fun challenge dumping ayrton into the bottom team,

Quality game, played it to death back in the day buying it when it came out.. thanks man:)

  • its the same as smgp 1 but with shite sound

  • Now I want to play Killer Bee racing for Sega Saturn

  • poor flag man

  • lol, flag man and random Micheal Cane swarm reference for the win :D

  • lol, whats up with the flag man?

  • It's also for the Master System.

  • Mark, what do you think of The Black Keys' latest album?

  • sou brasileiro. de um thumbs up pra mim tb =(

  • address so I can send my games...

  • Some of the most beautiful backdrops ever seen in a 16-bit (or 32-bit, for that matter) driving game. Beautiful colouring of the sky.

Its true that its more a Version 2 than a true sequel but its still a great game.

  • bzzzrrzzzzzrrrzzzzzrrzzzzzzzzzz. berezzzzzzrezzzezzzzezzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. ill pass

  • James May rules!

  • Huzzah! And Mark returns back to his roots and reviews a SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive game! I agree with alot of your points! Good review!

  • Whoa hitting that flagman was unexpected!

  • Review Snatcher for SEGA CD please!

  • ANGELAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • ahhhhhhh good old mega drive the one system i never had one bad thing to say about all it brought me was joy unlike the current generation consoles

  • BRING BACK DAVE

  • I remember this being in the store display at Sears way back

  • Senna didn't have shit to do with ANY video games, other than selling his name to it.

  • I expected this game to be just as well converted as they did with OutRun., So no sprite scaling, but enough roadside detail to capture the look of the arcade. How wrong i was. It may have been a reasonably good game, but i still was dissapointing to me, as i'd expected the same quallity as the OutRun conversion.

  • @musicmaniac1965 Whoops, i failed to notice the 2 at the end of the name! LOL. This game looks familliar to Super Monaco GP! LOL.

  • @musicmaniac1965 I was initially disappointed by the visuals but the huge career mode more than makes up for that with 16 tracks to master, each with gorgeous backdrops. and 7-speed gear shit, as well as very customisable controls.

  • today it would have been Achievement Unlocked: Flagman Down!

  • hehe i megadrive is a genesis /:)

  • god that sounds annoying

  • Review one of your reviews, and then review that review.

  • @icemansquared RECEPTION

  • Someone get him a copy of Vapor Trail!

  • @heardofrvb THIS

  • Attack of the Killer Bees!

  • lol 3:58

  • Who else cracked the fuck up at 3:59?

  • that was funny when you hit the flag guy. but you hit my cousin =}O

  • Woot, been waiting for another genesis review.

  • Every time I hear that stock scream effect I giggle.

  • I wish Mark would review the girl in the bathing suit from the first Super Monaco GP game for the Sega Genesis aka the Sega Megadrive.

  • R.I.P. Flag Man - 1992-2012

  • I've got the Master System version of this knocking around somewhere, must have been a EU only version (the Master System did much better in the UK, at least. It outsold the NES here for a bit). The graphics aren't anywhere near as shiney, but it plays well enough.

  • I saw Senna race at Silverstone back in 1988. It was a fucking blast!

  • @spiff2268 Wow, that's amazing. Senna died when I was fourteen, and I never got to see him race live. I'm jealous!

  • I always love it whenever Mark reviews old Genesis and Saturn games.

  • The review doesn't mention it, but one of the biggest additions in this game versus the first one, or most Genesis racing games, is that it has battery save, so your progress and best times are saved. It's a great feature to have.

As for the game itself though, I've just always found sim racers kind of boring, and yeah, it badly needed music too... if I had to play a Sega F1 game, the Sega CD one's probably my favorite; it's still boring, but the Mode 7-style graphics engine is cool.

  • @ABlackFalcon SMGP1 had great music, SMGP2 sounds rushed in the audio department.

  • Mark, make make a Doom Troopers review fors SEGA mega drive II? plz it one of me favorite games ever)

  • @mm2tracks RIP flag man

  • He hit the flag man. ROFL.

  • lol james may from top gear

  • I'm Brazilian and I still can't understand where the donor lives when Mark says it...

  • @vittau Paulínia =) try listening to it again. Greetings from Taubaté, SP, Brasil.

  • @vittau Paulínia.

  • Awesome game, I used to spend hours playing back in 1993.

  • The engine sounds are like bees because it's always garbled (like almost every other voice sample on the system). Now if only I knew why most voice samples are garbled...

  • More Genesis reviews Mark! I'm 10 years old again.

  • Thumbs up if you're Brazilian \o

  • not need to memorize, has a well thought-out map on the screen :P

  • Keep reviewing the old stuff and stay away from stuff like Skylanders. This is what you're good at!

  • wha the heck was that guy screaming for? Did mark run him over?

  • Curiosity: In 91 Sega wanted to know Senna's opinion about the new Barcelona's track but he said he can't give his opinion about it untill he raced and promissed to give his opinion after the race. After it he recorded his opinion about the track and sent it in a Digital Audio Tape (via Federal Express) to keep the game development in schedule.

  • "Classic Game Room Presents: This is a journalistic video game review of AYRTON SENNA'S SUPER MONACO GP 2 for Sega Genesis".

    Enough. Thumbed Up this video.

  • reveiw split/second for PS3.

  • Looks good!

  • your cocaine can't save you from killer bees

  • I don't know if you have seen it, Mark, but they recently did a documentary on Ayrton Senna. Highly recommended. It was the only time I think I have ever cried in the movie theater.

  • Never played the second Super Monaco, but I really dug the first. Great racing game with some even better music... Road Rash is another great Genesis racing series...

  • Review Spa from Gran Turismo 5

  • Finally another genesis review.

  • Review the superbowl!

  • I'm still waiting for an arcade perfect console port of Super Monaco GP. Come on Sega, bring a DLC of this game for PSN / Xbox Live already!

  • Did you really hit the flagman in this? That's awesome.

  • Flagman's fault for standing on the track like that.

  • Tomato review!

  • The need to buy the same game again. People are still doing that to this day with the CoD series. Such a waste.

  • Did he mention James May from Top Gear? :/

  • Definitely recommend the documentary "Senna" to anyone wanting to learn more about him and the sport. It's great.

  • 3:58 O_o! Well! I really wasn't expecting that! Came kinda out of nowhere!
