This is a midland painted turtle, males get around 4-6 inches, females max out at around 7-9 inches.

@jjheelz it depends on ur tank if u have shallow water it will stay the same size forever it all depends on how deep ur water is....

my friend has had his turtle for 4 yrs and it live in like a 10 gallon tank and looks fine

tavelkyosoba doesnt know what theyre talking about. certain painted turtles stay very small. ive had one for years now with a 20 gallon tank and he is perfect size for itt.

2 male painteds can live ina  75 gallon tank if tank isnt fill with crap and crowed one female they get bigger and i have raised them for over 30 years so trust me its gonna be ok

i got a turtle in my pond who had all the flesh cleaned off of his eye area, a large section. he is an adult. could he have been born like this?it is all healed, but he couldnt hear well when i came right nex to him he just ate, and when i was trying to get him in my net, he didnt even swim away. if i called the nature center they would just say to toss him back and let nature decide. but im not going to throw him back if he will get caught by a predator..whhat SHOULD I DO?!?! please reply.

@axolotlwithexotics Ask a vet. The nature center is telling you that NATURE should decide. That's because theyre the NATURE center. A vet will actually tell you what is wrong with it. And it could be a birth defect, but it could have happened before you found it. Vets would know :)

my painted is that same size and his water is about 18" deep and he loves to dive and swim. He also enjoys sun bathing on his dock. We just started getting him feeder fish and he loves them you should get your some as long as you dont have a weak stomach lol.

my painted turtle's bottom shell is arched but he is fat and spaold he eats roughly 2 wax worm's a day or a rain worm a day is the arching normal please tell!

dont feed him worms. thats why hes fat.- worms are full in fat. if the arching is like a curve on the belly it probably means its just a male, but if its arching on the top of the shell in a way its not suposed to its deforming because it has a calcium defiency. feed it a well balanced diet with turtle pellets

thats not why its scurrying around most turtles do that before they learn how to go into further depths my painted turtle had to learn that aswell

the water isnt supposed to be that deep. it should be low enough that they can go up to get a breath easily. that is probably why it is scurrying around.

my turtle dixie runs around the house during the day with the cats, has a pool outside in the summer, shes a red earred and eddy hes the painted, dixie loves chicken wings!

I have one too!! LOL they are so special, its amazing to me how social they are!! I feed mine a little of everything, the pellets you buy, frozen beef heart , fresh veg and fruit but his fav is crickets... I think he likes the sport!! LOL go see my film!!!

I've learned that you CAN get away with even a 20 gallon long...but the turtle might get fat from lack of excersize.

this is why herps are so fun, always learning!

@tavelkyosoba if you reaserch they are not that big female max 8 to 9 inches and males 6 to 7 inches i have a breeding pair in a 65 gallon they love it i dont think he needs more then a 50 for one turtle

@tavelkyosoba males dont get that big at all, a large female MAYBE i keep those trust me females usually dont get as big as a slider a large female would need a 50 to 80 gallon tank and a large male would need a 45 to 60 gallon tank
