Working a day or two, is that correct? I've had my XP working for, if I remember, like four to three years. Not much frustration, to say the least, no BSODs, just one freeze, but it survived because of technical help. Not from Microsoft.

Macs only freeze if you're running alot of high backend processing programs at once and are trying to constantly switch back and fort from one to another, other then that they dont. Ive only had a mac lock up twice and that was because i was doing many things at once at church and attempted to run 3 graphics intensive programs at once. I like both operating systems. I like them enough, that when i do buy a mac for personal use windows xp/7 (depending on stability of 7) will be partitioned on it.

both opperating systems hav flaws.....MACS freez for no freaken reason and it seems like they hav bad prosessing while the visual effects are beatiful...Microsoft gets viruses and sometimes crashes(just like macs) but the prossesing and multitasking is great

You got the macs and pc backwards dont windows operated pcs tend to freeze more for no apparent reason i know mine does and i've used loads of macs with great processing power. im not a pc hater im happy with mine and dont tend to leave it soon but i find macs more faster. i only have windows xp so i dont know much about the speed and capaabilties of windows 7 but i plan to get it soon.

pc (more specifically - windows computer) tends to freeze, until you've updated all the drivers for your types of hardware. mine hasn't frozen for over a year now.

mac has few apps, plus mac-only hardware. the advantage is that novice users don't have to concern themselves with the nuances of driver updates or other such technicalities.

same can be said for windows vs linux. I myself have tried the transition, but ultimately i can't be bothered with the maintenance level that linux demands.

totally agree with you in what you've said; however, if you exclude Windows Vista, Windows XP and 7 are very stable. In fact, since 2003 when I had my first XP machine I have had no Windows freezes. The same is true for 7, Since it was released.

As for Linux, you should try Ubuntu. I have found this OS to be very stable and maintenance free. Their last release made it so close to Windows that Linux users have started to complain.

Don't forget XP either. It's still the most stable OS I've ever used and most compatible with all kinds of platforms. Think about all the possible hardware combinations! Too many people have taken Microsoft for granted...

At least I actually have drivers for everything on XP! Using any distribution of Linux always feels like a beta test. It's nice, but there aren't any killer apps for Linux (unless you count virtual machine software).

It can be argued that it's stability comes from the fact that it's not designed to try to work with all kinds of hardware combinations. Linux just isn't dynamic enough in that respect. Simply put, Linux needs more support than just it's power users to be taken seriously.
