"Sometimes you get an error"... yeah, when you're doing it wrong! At 7:37 you're supposed to specify a file name for the launcher, not browse for the main application executable. It's best to put it outside the main app folder, too. The portable application that gets created is actually a NSIS launcher that temporarily writes to the registry some info and then deletes it once the application closes.
