You could tell who was coached by the Scotvolds. The music always had a American symphonic sound. The choreography was similar in style among their students. You could see it the most in Paul Wylie and Nancy Kerrigan.
They each became Olympic silver medalists, so you could say the Scotvolds were successful coaches.
It's a good thing she didn't do that spin in her '94 long program. I believe it also was not in her '93 long program? It was not an attractive spin. I think it was done to add variety and difficulty to the spin, but it didn't add to the beauty of the performance, which was otherwise a strong point for her.
Yes, she looks great here in white,it's the contrast with the dak hair - she was pretty - no doubt. But her skating never felt emotional to me, that's why I never was a fan. When all of the craziness of 1994 happened, I lived in Stoneham and was shocked by how many people from her own home town, didn't like her. I think she's changed a lot since then, seen interviews where she seems to have softened a bit. She grew up into a good mom I think..
She did beat Cook soundly in both the short and long programs. She only lost to Cook because she was so far behind Cook in figures. She actually lost 2nd place in the long program phase to Kristi Yamaguchi on only a 5-4 split. Had she been 2nd in the long program phase over Kristi, it would have been enough to pass Cook overall.
The opening piece of music is the only part she used 1994 olympic program. Skaters do it all the time. Michelle Kwan skated to the music from East of Eden three times in different seasons.

Talk about recycle music! Parts of this were used in her Olympic 94 free skate or am I wrong? Based on pure ability, Tonya beat her hands down. Nancy was a 'manufactured' skater whereas Tonya was a natural. Wasted talent.
aye...sometimes skaters choose to keep their previous year's program during an olympic year because it's comfortable, rather than spend that stressful year learning a new program. look at lu chen, yuka sato, surya bonaly, etc. ALL of their programs at '93 worlds were the same for the '94 olympics. did you think THEY were ALL boring, too? i'm not knocking nancy kerrigan or her coaches. i just don't like to see bits and pieces of a re-hashed program four years later. ~the END~
I never knew the first part of her '94 Olympic program was re-hashed from this program. Same music and nearly the same choreography and jump placement. Not very original.
So Oksana performed the same program for the 93-94 season. Nancy performed this program in 1990, had several programs in since then, and went back to parts of this same program four years later. It's kind of not the same thing.
At least Nancy only had the first section of the music the same. Oksana had her ENTIRE routine the same... BORING! And it was not for the 93-94 season. The World Championships marks the END of the skating season. The Olympics was in a different skating season. Oksana won for the 92-93 skating season.
I love that the beginning was also the music she used at the 94 Olympics and 93 Olympic test event.

Her program was far superior technically and artistically to Holly Cook's. Nancy should have won the bronze that year.

She has such a polished look to her skating. I also love her landing positions on her jumps.

Check out, Oksana's program at 1993 Worlds and compare to 1994 Olympic long program. Talk about "original"!
